He actually doesn't deserve a start. He was obtuse with the staff about his elbow and IMO is one of the main reasons this team floundered after the All Star Game.
He is an important cog in the machine for next year but I say punish him.
I'd rather see them give Vasquez another go. He is with the team isn't he?
Okay, it's Point-Counterpoint time. I'm glad you're here, Dan. Makes for great discussion.
What's the point? One would be that it's his job to pitch for this team. I'd like to have a job where I was punished by being given days off with pay. Another point: he can get two starts and I'd like to see what he's got. Is he an important cog or is he trade bait?
If he didn't pitch, I'd rather see Bazardo myself, but that's beside the.......point.
Over to you, Dan. :-)
As of today, we're 2nd in the AL in runs scored and sixth in HR's. That's enough offense to win 95 games and make the playoffs.
Let's face it ALL facets of pitching let us down! I think the only guys that performed up to the level you would expect are Verlander, Jones (yes shakiest closer in BB, but no surprise and he got his 35saves)and maybe some of the second tier relievers we weren't expecting much out of anyway. Zumaya, Rodney, Robertson, Rogers, BONDERMAN all key cogs have really been horrible.
Listen everyone, quit cutting Bonderman a break. We signed him up for four years at "ace" money and got a whimp. But, didn't we already know that about him. Let's peddle him off while we can still get something good. If we turn out to be wrong and he shines somewhere else, good for him and good for baseball. Meanwhile we get something we need.
The crys for the "big bat" while legit may be overrated. First, I checked the 2008 F/A's and unless you are going to get Arod (not going to come here) there isn't much other than Dunn you could project for "the big bat". Second, everyone is forgetting about Coamerica. Anyone who comes here is going to see their HR's decline.
In our ballpark, we have to be able to win those games where we score 5, 4 or even 3 runs. That adds up to better pitching. What changed? Last year we were "tops" this year we blow. Injuries and underperformance is the cause. The first is just luck/age and the second....well, maybe "guts" (Bonderman) and the pitching coach?
Last year we basically made one move (Sheffield) and before he was injured, we had the best record in BB. I'd like to see us do the same this O/S, one big bang, maybe package Bonderman for an additional RBI guy, and then I'd have no problem coming back with basically the same team.
I think you would all be pleased with the results!
Well I cannot believe the season is almost over, it just seem like yesterday I was at opening day???
I have to say I am somewhat disappointed in the season, I would not have been disappointed if we didn't make it back to the WS, but not making the playoffs that is pretty hard for me to swallow. Great performances this year by Maggs, Polanco and Granderson wasted.
I do agree about one this, it was the pitching, the pitching the pitching. Too many injuries, too many blown games by the bullpen and too many average performances by the starting pitching. I am not sure what the number is up to now, but I believe the last time I checked it was about 25 blown games by the bullpen. Yes I believe that injuries has something to do with it, but most of the guys in the bullpen had some troubles. I keep on thinking back to all the missed opportunities. Think even if we had only blown 7 less we are talking about October playoffs and not about what to do in the offseason???? That is why it always bothers me when people say it is only one game well that one game cost the Tigers the division last year and all those one games that we talked about this year cost the Tigers the playoffs. I just feel like this was supposed to be our year and it maybe of been a lost opportunity.
Oh well its just baseball right.
GO Magglio, that is what I am really paying attention to now is the batting title. And Polanco winning the Gold Glove, I swear if he doesn't I will stop watching baseball.?? And the other thing I am waiting for is the breaking story about the HGH in the Yankee and Cleveland locker room?? HA HA
