First round of cuts
Armando Galarraga and Macay McBride were optioned to Toledo.
Rick Porcello was optioned to Lakeland.
Non-roster invitees Jeff Gerbe, Rob Bowen, Dusty Ryan, James Skelton, Jeff Larish, Danny Worth, Matt Joyce, Wilkin Ramirez and Clete Thomas were all assigned to minor-league camp.
There was some suspense building when Francisco Cruceta's locker was cleaned out this morning. It appears, however, that they're just moving him to a different locker in the clubhouse so they can clear out a bank of lockers and give guys more room to move around in there.
It's a very regular-looking lineup today against the Astros. Here it is:
- Granderson, CF
- Polanco, 2B
- Sheffield, DH
- Ordonez, RF
- Cabrera, 3B
- Guillen, 1B
- Renteria, SS
- Rodriguez, C
- Jones, LF
Interesting how the catcher and outfield spots got cleared - but the infielders were spared. What is that a signal of?

.... meant to narrow that down to 3B-SS-2B infielders spared?

The catcher cuts usually are heavy in the first round. They have to have a lot of catchers in camp to handle the bullpen sessions early on. Then when the games begin, they have too many catchers than they can get into games.
Interesting point about the infielders. I think that's in part to make sure Renteria and Polanco get a fair amount of rest as the spring training games go along.
