Dontrelle v. Glavine

A few interesting names in the Braves lineup today, including Lakeland's own Matt Diaz at cleanup and Edgar Renteria's successor, Yunel Escobar, at shortstop. Meanwhile, Ryan Raburn gets the start at second base, giving Polanco a day off.

Here's the Tigers lineup:

  1. Granderson, CF
  2. Inge, 3B
  3. Sheffield, DH
  4. Thames, 1B
  5. Raburn, 2B
  6. Jones, LF
  7. Clevlen, RF
  8. Sardinha, C
  9. Santiago, SS

And the Braves lineup:

  1. Kelly Johnson, 2B
  2. Escobar, SS
  3. Jeff Francoeur, RF
  4. Diaz, DH
  5. Brian McCann, C
  6. Brent Lillibridge, 3B
  7. Scott Thorman, 1B
  8. Brandon Jones, LF
  9. Josh Anderson, CF

By the way, it's also guest manager day, one of two they'll have this spring (the other one being this Sunday). Steve Nagengest, a businessman from North Muskegon, won today's honors in an auction at a charity dinner prior to TigerFest. We'll see if he gets to put on any hit-and-runs or anything. He is a Marcus Thames, though, so Thames gets to bat cleanup with Magglio off. It's also Marcus' birthday today.

The Boston game is on ESPN and Sean Casey is playing he just got a single, but it is sad to see him in that uniform. I liked him and will miss him.

GK, that is sorta sad to think about.

Looks like Willis pitched a good game today. Our starts are really looking good!

Sean had a couple of hits and made a nice catch at first on a high throw to get the out.

Yes it looks as though Dontrell did a nice job, and Galarraga had a nice first inning but lost his control in his second inning for 3 walks and a few hits for a total of 5ER's.

That'll do it...hummm...well, at least Gally is getting a taste of MLB hitters or the ones that were left in the game at that point. Gotta work the kinks out - that's what ST is all about..

A. Lopez had a nice outing as well.

Aki (Lopez) has been pretty sharp. He was a guy I thought they could have relied upon last year when they were in dire straits at the back end of a ball game. He was always just an emergency measure but I think he has good enough stuff to be given a chance.
With the bullpen the way it is he could be a consideration.

Sheffield is hitless so far and that is a bit worrisome given the crucial position he has in the batting order. We haven't really heard much about his injury rehab but if he can't perform then it makes keeping Marcus essential.

sheff had a terrible ST and april last year too before he stepped up in may up through the collision with polanco.

that being said... i hope he snaps outta his funk. starts are looking sensational, be nice if we could get a solid 6-7 innings outta the starters each game to reduce the dependance on the BP. more like 06 less like 07 please

go tigers!

I have no doubt the bats will get going. The only starters who are really hitting the ball right now are Granderson, Polanco and Ordonez. Though Carlos woke up the other day. I am concerned with Sheffield. I hope I am dead wrong but I have this feeling that something ain't right.

So many fates revolve around the outcome of an Inge trade. Raburn, Sardinha, playing time for Thames.

If Inge is traded Raburn stays with the big club for sure. And likely Sardinha unless they get a catcher for Inge. Santiago is a lock to stay with the club as you actually NEED his glove as a backup middle infielder. Nice to see him hitting the snot out of the ball this spring.

There was a story about the Mets being interested in Thames http://freep.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20080306/BLOG17/80306047/1050/SPORTS02

I sincerely hope that does not happen. Thames is a class act with the physical tools to be intimidating at the plate. You have to be happy with a combination of attributes like that. He would have to be a pleasure for any MLB manager to have on his club.

Some of the guys that will be down on the farm are showing us that the farm system is not depleted. Guzman, Ramirez, Clevlen, Sizemore, Worth, Hollimon, Hessman etc.

Speaking of Hessman, now there is aguy I would not be surprised to see in another big league uni this year. Maybe the Mets. Not saying I'd like to see him go but he doesn't seem to have a fit as a Tiger with our talented Venezuelans manning the corners. Kinda neat to see in the middle of the order and probably very exciting for Venezuelan baseball fans to see Ordonez then Cabrera followed by Guillen!
