What to make of Porcello

PorcelloDon't go overboard on a spring training debut, but he did look good. Good velocity on his fastball for this point in camp, lots of movement. More than anything, though, was his poise. As Leyland keeps saying, he steps out on the mound and just looks different, a little like Verlander did.

I fully expect the Tigers to take their time with him, but in terms of tools, he has the stuff to make folks look forward to each step he takes up the ladder.

Oops, I think I accidentally deleted your post, jtennant. I meant to kill deadhead's post and I checked yours by mistake. Sorry about that.

what did deadhead say?

btw, if JL is going to bat Jones at #9, it is the most ridiculous thing I have ever heard of.

let's get these old timers fired up.

rodney go home. rodney go home. rodney go home. rodney go home. rodney go home. i would rather have franklyn german.

I didn't care for the tone of that deadhead guy's posts very much anyway. Kind of ranting and raving. Of course, Dan does that too, but in a more respectful way...

i have not trusted rodney since the first time i saw him.

I sure would like to get a look at Porcello. I may be misremembering, but it seems there were more TV and MLB.TV appearances last spring. I won't be in Florida until the 10th. I hope he's still around by then.

Verlander now, he's just the real deal. We don't see this very often. His story about pitching in the cold at ODU is funny. I remember a game we had in HS where it was 70 degrees when we started and, as is typical of Michigan Aprils, dropped to 35 before we got done. With wind. The coach sent me off to the locker room with the trainer to thaw out my frozen fingers. That's my only injury during my HS baseball career. :-)

Well Steve--thanks for comparing me to Head Dead.

Ranting and Raving? All the time I thought i had a pretty good read/handle on things.

i have been reading you guys for 3 years. i think i am ready to jump in. yes, rodney is not the answer.

Sorry guys, my post wasn't meant in any way to invoke the rant by deadhead. I just wanted to provide some insight as to a possible reason why Cruceta might be having problems getting his visa.
I'm so glad the "season" has started. I just wish I lived closer to Florida so I could go watch a few games. I guess I'll just have to wait until they play the Diamondbacks in May.

Rich, I think there were significantly more MLB.TV appearances last year. I remember watching several of the games last year.

lol... i'm not ranting and i'm not raving. i'm pointing out that immigrations 'laws' aren't being ignored by any country no matter who it is, thats not a bad thing, people.

i wasn't saying anything bad about cruceta, i dont even know who he is, besides he's on the tigers roster.

cruceta will work things out with his visa, and i hope to god he makes the team, cuz everything about him is positive.

my 'deleted' post just addressed that. no biggie, didn't swear, didn't say anything that isn't being said by anyone else. just a post. if jason doesn't like it, oh well. thats the nature of running a blog. people will speak their minds. if you dont want people speaking their minds, dont run a blog.

now i'm sure jason represents MLB and all that, but still, a blog is a blog. opinions shouldn't get deleted because they offend someone. the fact that my post was deleted in the first place screams marx. i respect this blog, and i respect the posters, and i respect jason beck.

the fact that you people see my posts as somehow 'hostile' because i point out that immigration laws are being obided by, or critisize inge for how he's delt with his supplantation from 3B to UT is absurd. i'm not being negative, i'm stating opinions, and if opinions aren't whats acceptable to this blog, then everyones post should be deleted.

fact of the matter is, i didn't say anything that was offensive to any american. due process will bring cruceta into camp. thats all i was saying.

To be fair, deadhead, you didn't only talk about Cruceta getting his visa things worked out...what you wrote also led me, as a reader of your post, to believe that you didn't like the fact that your, presumably white, children were stuck going to a school where they were in the minority, and that most of their fellow students were thugs who didn't speak English. It was also implied that this 'unfortunate' circumstance was due to our trouble containing our Southern Boarders (or the 'front line' of immigration problems as I believe you said). This was not an appropriate topic of conversation for a baseball blog.

In the spirit of Bill Maher, I propose a 'New Rule'...if you feel the need to preface your statements with some form of "I know I'm gonna be accused of racism due to this statement, but..." (which was done in that post at least twice) than it has not business being posted on this (almost) always civil conversation about everyone's favorite baseball team.

Thanks for your post hegarty. I was wondering wwhat the transgression was about. Knew it had to be serious if JB availed himself of his total right to delete it.

Right on Jason!
