To beat you to the punchline
Yes, I know the story of Bonderman working on a changeup is repetitive. I'm the one who wrote those stories every spring, remember? That's partly why I made a note out of it today instead of a story (well, having bigger news items today helped, too). Still, I think it's important to note, partly since he felt like he had some good offspeed pitches today and has decided not to throw sliders in his early outings this spring. If he had scrapped the idea of a changeup altogether, that would've been news, too.
For those who read the minor-league report today, keep an eye on Preston Larrison. He probably won't make the bullpen out of spring training since he's a non-roster guy at this point, but he could well play a role in the Tigers bullpen before the season is done. The Tigers don't have a lot of guys who would specialize in entering games with guys on base, but he's one who can because of the way he pitches for ground balls. He's been through a lot over the years, so you'd like to see him eventually get a chance.
I'm off on Thursday (but I have nothing to do with the Sheffield-Boras depositions, I swear), so you'll have to talk amongst yourselves. Jim Molony will be handling the stories on the site.
i was reading through some of the yahoo sports page comments, and people were refering to sheff as a 'cancer' idk if i would call him a cancer, this isn't necesarily his fault. i think the 'cancer' MIGHT be inge, up until july trade deadline.....
ehh.... sheff is sheff, tigers knew what they were getting into, certainly JL knew, being his manager before. i wouldn't put him in the cancer range though. bonds, thats a cancer. can't imagine why he hasn't been signed. i do think he'll end up finishing his career at TB though.
sheff a cancer? nah. a distraction, nah. sheff just being sheff, YEP.
and with all these players all the sudden giving boras the 'shaft' lately, who's the cancer? sheff or boras.
at least sheffield doesn't have a 'misremembering' problem. he seems to clearly remember everything.....
boras is an overpaid monkey that is slowly destroying baseball (in my opinion)by handcuffing owners of smaller market teams with a quality player and demanding top dollar... idk.... i guess i can't blame the players, i would like to see pro sports be more about the GAME than the MONEY.
but at the same time, owners will pay, so why shouldn't these guys demand top dollar.... supply and demand i guess.
only people that suffer... the fans, paying higher ticket prices for games.
anyone see that the lions, after 7 straight sub .500 seasons, decided its a good time to RAISE ticket prices... insanity.

Hey Rich, I will trust you on the line up so just go ahead and make mine the same as yours and give it to JL. I won't be in Florida until the first week of April (spring break for my wife). Also, I agree with you on Rodney. I never did "trust" him. I like Miner for an inning or two if he can get out of the starter mode.
Matt, right!
deadhead, I think Sheff is Sheff and JL knows how to handle him and the rest of the Tigers are not like the Yankees. Inge is too much of a class act to be a cancer. Yea, agents, corporate suites, etc. have made the game too much about money for us on this site that just wnat to watch Baseball.
Someone else a while ago made a comment about the team that Ford owns. Don't make us even think about that team because this is a baseball site (-:
Go Tigers!!!

For those of you who think Brandon Inge would be a cancer on this team, I'm sorry, but you just don't know the character and heart of the man. The Tigers need him more than he needs them. From his high school days at Brookfield High in Lynchburg all the way through today, he is the consummate team player. He does have an ego, and it has been crushed, but I wish the Tigers had 25 Inge's on their team. This is simply my humble, yet biased opinion. But I know the man, and I would stake everything I had that he would never cause any harm to the Team.

I agree David Tiger.

team players acknowledge that they aren't better than there replacement, and sit on the bench, earn 6 million a year, and become the starting catcher next year.
i digress. enough of inge.
tigers are 3-0 (or 2-0 lol)!! only about 190 or so more wins for the perfect season! go tigers :)

I agree, deadhead.

btw: davidtiger, i wasn't saying inge was going to be a cancer, i implied it, 'misspoke' lol. his negativity since the cabrera trade speaks for itself. pride, ego, blah blah, aside, he's making about 6 million for 3 years to be a utility player. if starting someplace is something he TRULY desires, then, restructure the contract so you CAN be traded....
NOW i digress :)

What's with the negative vibes? Let's enjoy the position we are in! Personally, I'm glad to have Brandon on our team. It's a long season, sh_t happens and when all is said and done, BI will play a big role on this team. I stick to my original prediction that he is going to have his biggest year ever as a Tiger! If he's traded, I'll root for him. It's all good!

Don't know about you guys, but I've got to find a way to dial it down. I'm already planning my work day around the afternoon games, and it's only spring training! I'll never make it. BTW, Ty Cobb what's the Cleveland report? Do those bast__ds think they've got us this year?

It would be nice to hear that Francisco Cruceta has made some headway with his visa.
I know the club thinks this guy has a great arm but I wonder how much training he can reasonably miss.
Anybody hear anything about his visa issue?

Once and for all on Brandon Inge:
The below is from January.
---------------------------
In a perfect world, Inge said, he'd like to be the Tigers' starting third baseman, but he knows that's not going to happen. If not third base, he'd like to play every day with the Tigers at another position. Short of that, he would like to play with another team that has an opening at third base.
If that doesn't happen -- and right now it doesn't look like it will -- he said, "I'll take the medicine, take the utility role for a year, then hopefully a starting job would open up for me somewhere in Detroit."
---------------------------
Inge listed three preferences. Preferences, not demands. The top two of those preferences involved staying with Detroit. What more do we need?
If I see Inge in Florida, I will only say "Hi Brandon." That's it.
Unless something else develops, I have nothing more on the issue.

JT, actually I haven't heard much around the office (unlike last year) or town about the Indians. The interviews coming from their camp are positive for them, of course. The GM and Wedge both think that just because they have last year's team back they should be able to win again - without improving in the offseason (yeah, they did pick up one or two, but no big names - not that they have the money for it anyway). As we all know and have seen over the years, just because you won with 'last years team' doesn't guarantee you anything. I think they will play decent ball, but I think it will end up like alot of predominately young teams we have seen in the past - they have a good season one year and then the next they come back down to earth. Even though the Tigers didn't make the post-season last year, I think we would all agree they are here to stay. Like I said, I do see the Indians playing some good ball, but without improving their lineup, I think they will "struggle" to regain their form from 2007. Honestly, I think Carmona (he won't do quite as well), Sabathia (I have ALWAYS and still do think he is over-rated and his weight will be a major issue one day) and Hafner (You gotta love this guy, he signs a fatcontract - for Cleveland that is - and then plays like **** last year). I also think Sizemore came back down to earth last season as well. I don't remember right off hand but I think they only had one player over .300 last season. It was their pitching that did it for them. Even IF their pitching is as good as it was in 2007 (which I don't think it will be) I don't think they have the firepower to keep up with the Tigers - then again, who does!?

I know regarding Cruceta, I don't really understand why we haven't heard anything recently. Last week I heard that he would be in camp probably this week??? I did listen to an interview with Dombrowski yesterday and he was very vague and only said that he is working out in the Dominican. But it is interesting that he hasn't been able to get out of Dominican yet??? I know that Liriano got his visa and is in camp?? JASON have you heard anything?? I know that Liriano was having trouble with his because of a drunk driving conviction, what is the deal with Cruceta, is it the steriods??

Let's just hope he and Neifi aren't close friends!

As of a couple days ago, there was nothing new on Cruceta. Haven't heard anything today so far. But yes, it's believed the steroid issue last year is the main cause for the hold-up, especially since Juan Salas of the Rays is going through the same thing after his steroid suspension last year.

So regarding Cruceta, we consider steriods a more serious offense than the drunk driving conviction of Liriano???
