Cabrera homers in first at-bat
The exhibition against Florida Southern is still going on, but the highlights mostly took place in the first inning. None were bigger than Miguel Cabrera's home run.
Granted, it was against a college team, and the wind blowing out, but the ball was crushed. It's an estimated 420-foot shot to straightaway center, and the ball hit about three-quarters of the way up the backdrop behind the fence. The backdrop rises about 30 feet above the top of the fence. Granderson and some teammates were guessing it traveled 470 feet.
"The wind got it," Cabrera said, half-jokingly.
I think we all agree, whether it is college or MLB pitchers, MCab is a smasher. It is definitely going to be exciting to watch him play this year, along with everyone else on the roster.

NICE!!! I understand that he is a college pitcher, but it is still exciting looking forward to the spring and summer.

yeah so i'm over this MCab ****, i think we should rename his nickname to "MC Hammer." *****.. just a thought. maybe it'll catch on and whenever he comes up to bat at commerica park, they'll play hammer time, and the whole crowd will join in the 'hammer time ooooh oooh oohh etc.etc.etc.' just hope he wont don the hammer parachute pants. that would be a bit much.
but yeah. good start to a season filled with expectations. yeah, it was a college team, big deal. we'll have a more clear view on wednesday. i for one, leading up to this pointless exhibition game, rushed home from work to see the results.....
inge hit one.. ehh... trying to build some stock for himself i guess. hopefully he gets traded, if not, he better put up some numbers (and no i dont mean strike out numbers) every single time he takes to the plate this season as mr supersub.
anyways, i'm out like a fat kid playing dodgeball.
