Tigers announce minor-league signings

Max St. Pierre is a Tiger farmhand again. Jon Connolly, Ian Ostlund, Dane Sardinha, Henry Mateo, Jeremy Johnson, Anastacio Martinez and Jackson Melian were re-signed. Francis Beltran comes over from the Orioles organization, while Caonabo Cosme joins from the Reds farm system.

St. Pierre is, at best, a AAA-level catcher. Don't see Sardinha as any better. He is miserable with a bat and only decent behind the plate. It scares me that the Tigs have no one to really back up Pudge for the first month or so, assuming that Wilson is able to be back in some form by May-June.

Maybe they'll trade Inge for a catcher. :-)

I'm trying not to overdo the Inge discussions but seriously, I think Brandon messed up by going public with his desire to be traded. It was going to be difficult enough to get any value for him, and he's made it that much tougher by speaking out. I'm also afraid my man may have overvalued himself. As many have said, how many teams even want a full time thirdsacker that just hit .230? We all like Brandon, but this is just the way it is. I really really think he should just stay in Detroit. There will be plenty of playing time.

Hi Rich. I know what you mean. Brandon is young for his age--proud, talented and perhaps, a bit impetuous. I think he will remain with the club and will subordinate himself to the cause---unless DD finds good value for him. I can't see them going after a catcher unless it is one that will succeed Pudge. They will tough it out with Wilson and the farm system for the first tough part of the schedule.
I think they should just keep him unless they get what they need and want for him.

I guess we will all be watching our boys in Miami this year and I am thinking there will be some criticism when they all start contributing regularly. Rabelo was starting to look very interesting.

I think we will see Miller do a really nice job for them and Maybin will probably make the squad hit .280 and steal 30 or 40 bases.

I thought Rabelo was pretty good, too, especially with our lack of catching prospects. Strangely, I recall somebody (Jason, do you remember who?) from the team making comments about how Rabelo wasn't considered a viable starting catcher. It wasn't clear to me why they thought that.

I think Miller is still a year away from being really effective and that Maybin could use another year in the minors, too, but they won't get that with the Marlins.
