This is turning into a GOOD day in Tigerland. We make a trade, sign Jonesie, and Jason returns to the blog. :-)
I think this trade is one of those rare birds that helps both teams and both players involved. Omar, who we all like and will miss, will get a chance to bust up some NL pitching and, at 26, can have a future with the Cubs. He was never going to get much PT here. Meanwhile, I'd say Jones fills the bill as the LH outfielder. I know some wanted more longball power, but when it got down to talking Geoff Jenkins, I got worried. I've always liked Jones. He is a 25 homer guy, last year notwithstanding, and will fit very well into that Tiger lineup. He can almost hide in there and make some hay. Plus, he's only been away from the AL two seasons so there shouldn't be that big adjustment to the pitching over here. I like this trade.
I'm glad Todd Jones is back in the fold. As one of the few who stood by him the entire time, I see this as a huge plus.
Things are shaping up. A lot of question marks have been eliminated. Good work, DD.
I am also glad that they signed Todd Jones, I like him and I think that he is a stand-up guy and always took responsibility when he blew it. But that being said he didn't blow it more or much more than any of the big guys out there. I like Todd and I think that he will do a good job again.
Here, here. TJ is not the best stopper, but he gets the job done usually. IF he really struggles, the Tigers can try to get Zumaya into a stopper role late in the season.
JJ is another piece of the picture, and should help. My opinion is that the pitching is much more important, though. I would like to see us trade for anyone decent, and I am praying that Charlie Brown will have a better year. Nate will be a typical 3rd or fourth starter and probably win 12-15 and lose about as many.
Who besides Verlander is gonna help the Tigers on the mound to have a great year? I am hopeful, but also a little worried.
Great day is right! I really like the JJones deal. We didn't give up a thing. O/I is a nice kid but he wasn't even going to make the team this year. So we got basically a starter for a Milb player. Jones can run a little bit too and has to be an upgrade defensively over Marcus every day. Matter of fact, we might now be able to package MT in a deal for a SP.
Not a huge Tjones guy, but I also mark on a curve and IMO he's as good or better than what we were going to get for a closer in the marketplace.
Now we just need that veteran SP in the four hole and a couple breaks and I like our chances against CLEV.
