Tigers postseason shares announced

Yes, second-place teams receive postseason shares, even if they don't win the wild card. In the Tigers case, they received $524,593.91, which they'll split up among 41 full shares, five partial shares and 15 cash awards. A full share will be worth $10,610.74, compared to over $300,000 when the Tigers reached the World Series a year ago.

Here's the full release, which gives the full breakdown and where the money comes from.

Strange, isn't it, how some of today's inflated player salaries make these shares look like chump change. It's big bucks for the lower salary guys, though. A youngster could double his income by being on a WS winner. The pressure to win.......which comes from their wives. :-)

Re the last few posts, I'll say that the Tigers are plenty good enough to make a run. I suppose it depends on one's goals when deciding if they're good enough. Even the loaded Red Sox had bad spells and required a run to win it all.

Now, if we get more injuries and/or guys don't live up to expectations, then it won't be happening. All you can do is build the team and hope most things go well.

Am I the only one that keeps opening the Tigers website compulsively expecting to see a headline saying "Rogers Signs for '08 Season!"?

Geez-- I'm beginning to think it won't happen...

PS-- if the Twins get Phil Hughes and others from the Yankees for Santana, I'll officially be worried about them. That kid scares me.

Brent - You are definitely not the only one. I swear, I must log on the website 5-6 times a day hoping to see that headline.

Rich - I also agree that they are good enough to make a run.

Of course I think we would all like to see one more starter and a bullpen arm, so it is still early and I guess we will see what happens.

I did predict this would be the week for Rogers to sign, I hope I wasn't wrong.

They're probably haggling over DD's injury clause. :-) Club protection in case of blood clots, osteoarthritis, benign prostatic hyperplasia, prescriptions for bifocals, or ED.

I think we'll pick up another pitcher at some point. I'd say the position players are set. That lineup will score enough runs. And before we all have Thames shipped out of town, let's remember that Raburn, Hessman, and Shelton could be included in a deal.

There's some talk about the D'Backs being interested in Bonderman.

Bonderman is a bit of a head case but he truly is 1 pitch away from being formidable. Kinda' tough to let him go at this point.

I agree, Dan. Barring injury, Bondo is able to contribute to this team even if he didn't improve. And if he does improve, well, there's an All-Star.

On a different note, I see one of our draftees, Casey Crosby, is undergoing TJ surgery. Get the rack out and put another Tiger on the barbee.
Besides 2006, I have never seen a city (Lions & Tigers - namely) to have this many injuries. I think we need to have the EPA check the water.

too much motor oil in the water.

anyways... i'm not real sure if KR's return to detroit would be any more productive than last year... he's too old. same can be said for sheffield.

but who knows. i'm optimistic. every year before the tigers (and the lions) start the season, for the past 15 years, i've announced to all my friends, that, both teams will go undefeated.

i dont understand why they always laugh uncontrollably.

especially about the lions.

anyways. i still believe they should be making more of an effort to sign dotel.

the bullpen KILLED the team last year. the era from the bullpen was rediculous compaired to the championship run of 06. rediculous. and the season isn't near starting, and zoom is gone. (i am not optimistic about his return...)

zoom will come back, be a low 90's (maybe mid 90s the year after next) pitcher, and will get crushed at the plate unless he developes the rest of his pitches more. i think his star is burning out, as he is prone to the strangest of weird injuries i've ever heard of. (guitar hero, ligament or whatever in a finger, shoulder from moving boxes....)

yeah so they need help with relief pitching. i've said it a million times before. rodney isn't the answer. everytime he touches a baseball i start to sweat and tap my foot nervously and head to the fridge to either get a beer, or to take some shots, depending on how close the score is....

debating whether or not to get the mlb channel and drive the wifey crazy next year. she's a baseball fan, just doesn't like it when baseball interrupts the newest episode of the real world. or whatever. lol!

oh yeah. the moral of this blog, LATE RELIEF!!!!

Brent and Tyrus Raymond, I just opened the Tiger website for the third time today. Still no KR signing.

Maybe tomorrow?

XX - I agree, the bullpen does need help. I think we will see some sort of signing or trade for late relief before it is all over, whether it is Dotel or someone else.

JT - I just have this gut feeling it will be this week sometime. I have felt that since Boras was outta the picture.

Until then Detroit-ers, get the Brita outta the fridge and let's get purifying that water.
