Leyland on taking out Jurrjens
Here it is, so the emails can stop:
"He hung a few breaking balls earlier that they popped up. Some of those balls that were going to the outfield that they hit pretty high were hanging breaking balls. That's the only reason I made the move. I didn't want them to hang one to Garko and get a two-run homer. So that was the reason I went to Zumaya.
"It's pretty hard to take a guy out who's got a one-hitter going, but Garko just missed one before off of him. He had done his job for the night. That's a potent lineup, and to hold that lineup with all those left-handed hitters in there, and good hitters from the right side, what more can you ask from the kid? I don't think you could leave him out there any longer even though, like I said, it's tough to take a guy out who's got a one-hitter."
Never would I have imagined getting emails complaining about Leyland putting in Zumaya. That says something about how well Jurrjens pitched.
well.... what can i say... i chime in every so often....
nevermind i figured out what to say!
doomsdayers, naysayers, and overall (dare i say) fairweather fans...... i've been a tigers fan all of my 28 years. i've seen them win, but mostly i've seen them lose. i'm a fan, and even when i moved out of MI at 16, i still follow every move they make via the internet (would get MLB on directv but i'm not a rich man, and my fiancee would freakin kill me)...
in any case, there's still a month and a week or so of baseball, mostly division teams for the tigs.... worst case scenario, they dont win division and seatle takes the wild card.
so what!
there's plenty of reasons to be incouraged. their pitching... injuries injuries, injuries, infuries..... (not a typo i think i just made up a new word)
the good news: there's next year. and with all the talent being showboated in place of regular starters or regular relief pitchers, (inexperience, albeit) it gives the rest of the AL a reason to dread the tigs when they play them......
the bad news... some of the local 'favs' will be gone next year i figure. inge. monroe, infante (which i strongly disagree with), casey.... all these personalities that we all have grown to know over the years, see ya later!
but thats how professional sports works. inge has to go. monroe.. blah. dont care, never liked him, captain strikeout. casey, a good buy, but isn't your 'typical' 1Bman... so.. expect moves this winter.
best case, they make the playoffs, they win, they have that fire lit under their ***, and they make it to the WS, and hopefully they win it this time. unlikely, but thats best case. hey maybe they'll suprise everyone. and lets hope KR washes his **** hands. nothing like listening to the Roam report for 3 hours every morning talking about 'now i'm not say the roaster cheated, but he cheated'
blah.
lets just hope that they've been 'saving' themselves for sept. the bullpen is back to 'normal' they have a bright future in pitching for next season, dont even necesarily have to make any moves (cept i'd have robertson on that block ASAP i cant stand him and his consistant losing record, HE should've gone not Maroth. i dont care how much gum he chews)
anyways, lets hope for the best the remaining games, but if not, oh well there's next year. get some dependable player(s) this offseason. i hated the sheffield deal, and by hated, i mean HAAATTTEEEEEEEEED it. too much money, not enough production. so lets get some power bat in the lineup, one that produces like maggs.
(anyone else heard the A-ROD rumor? LOL)
yep. go tigers!

Under the circumstances--absolutely nothing wrong with JL's decision to take him out.
In fact it was very astute.
