Wilson has Tommy John surgery
The recovery schedule says 9-12 months, meaning he'll miss the rest of this year as well as part of next season, too.
In other injury news, the Tigers recalled reliever Roman Colon from his rehab stint and suspended him for seven days for an altercation that resulted in a left shoulder contusion.
No Carlos Guillen today, but he's hoping he can play Friday in Philadelphia. Pudge and Polanco receive days off.
I'm up in the Poconos and I missed the no-hitter! I turned on ESPN Tuesday night and they had Verlander's picture on the screen. I thought he'd been injured or killed or something. :-) Anyway, that is just fantastic. I will, of course, watch the archived game when I return home, but I sure wish I'd have gotten to experience it as it happened. Only game I've missed all season.......
I see Rodney is still Rodney.
I'll be at the games Friday and Saturday in Philadelphia. I'll try to log in if anything interesting happens.

Colon--what a trip he is.
Feast or Famine continues with the hitters. Must be frustrating for them as well as the pitchers who have to endure.
Hey Rich---dya think Verlander will get his first major league hit?

Boy is Monroe ever fighting the ball--I think you will see JL make some changes with his LF if this goes on too much longer.

I like Rabelo and think he has done a pretty good job but he ain't no Vance Wilson.
Hopefully he can get back in the 9 months rather than the 12.
Regarding Monroe I am at my wits end with this guy and have been for quite sometime. I have never been his biggest fan, but in the last month or so it has been worse than normal. 4 freaking strike outs, C-Mo hasn't been money for a long time.
Thirdly, I love my Tigers, but it is either FEAST or FAMINE with them. They are either pitching or hitting but rarely either at the same time. Today really it was neither. They have been very frustrating for me to watch the last month or so. I love em but they are testing my patience.
By the way that balk rule ? dropping the ball is a bull-**** rule, it is just ridiculous. Losing to another mediocre to bad team. (I know Brewers are in first, but they are not a good team they are mearly average)

Recap 5 freaking strikeouts by Craig Monroe. Unreal. He needs to get a few days off and let Thames in. Bull.

I feel your pain--which obviously has intensified with C-Mo's 5 strikeout--this one with the tying runner on 3rd and only 1 out. Well he wasn't the only one-Granderson did the same thing earlier, and I might add, that Curtis seems to have some pretty bad at bats with runners on 3rd and less than 2 out.
The stars were not aligned today. Ordonez robbed by Hall was a pivotal turning point.
The bullpen is in a shambles. It's bad enough they have to be used at all but when you give up freebies with balks, wild pitches and hit batters in addition to home runs, you have a recipe for defeat.
Casey got a gift RBI in the 9th---I know a lot of people here like him, and so do I, but he has stranded a ton of important runners this year.
JL has gut a few guys here that he is losing confidence with. Grilli, Rodney, Ledezma to name a few, but I suspect he is going to have to give Marcus Thames some playing time. C-Mo picked it up in May but he is slumping badly enough right now as to justify trying something else.
Durbin gets the loss technically but the loss (if it were to be given subjectively) should have gone Ledezma. Not that Durbin pitched that well but it is tough to get victories when you give up 2 hits an inning. Maroth and Durbin seem to both be in that category right now and being that they are not strikeout pitchers, I don't see that changing much.
I think JL is gonna shake things up and the bullpen will be where he starts.

Dan, with the addition of Rogers , one of the present starters will soon be assigned to the bullpen, then a reliever bumped off, don't you think? Something's got to give. Someone mentioned Nate as a closer but how about as a long reliever? Maroth or Durbin? The number of lefties on this staff is growing. Strange how things change. Missed the game today. I see Craig struck out 5 times...ouch. Ya hate it when that happens.

I don't think JL is going to be able to fix the bullpen internally. I think they need a or some fresh faces to stop the bleeding.
The closer on this team, like it or not (and I don't), IS Todd Jones. Period.
Nate will not be a closer so much because of that, as because he is really a starter and has the stamina to go 7 innings. They need that. Whether he can keep the opposition to under 4 runs is critical. Hopefully he gets it together. The staff is becoming seriously compromised and just the simple return of Rogers and Zumaya is not an instant solution. They will have some challenges when they return and we still need someone else to become a force out of the bullpen in addition to Zumaya. And let's just hope that the Zoom has the physical health to be able to pick up where he left off.
I think the club is really needing to do something about their situation even if it means that some of our well-loved Tigers have to be traded.
The "setup man" situation is really a critical one. If they are intent on finding their man internally I think they might want to give Miner a crack at it. He has good stuff, and I think he has the mental makeup for the role. They may end up bringing in Lopez from Toledo. JL will likely stick it out with Rodney. Maybe they need to have him take a few Tony Robbins seminars or sneak some steroids into his gatorade. He lacks aggression and seems too placid.
If they fall too far behind now there may not be a race in September.

I wasn't suggesting that Nate close. I still believe in Jones as the closer at this point. But I was suggesting that Nate might work for a time in the bullpen and see how things go. As you say he is a workhorse more suited to starting. But I agree Dan, JL needs some answers and he may need to look elsewhere. Hate to see anyone get traded yet. Rodney works so slowly, the opposing teams just seem to feed off of it. But right now the Tigers have 2 stoppers and maybe one more soon. I see them staying in the race right now.
