In case you can't get enough Dice-K

Here's some more reaction from the Tigers:

  • Curtis Granderson: "I probably saw maybe four pitches which to me I think is average to above-average in terms of the amount of pitches. Everyone says he's got six or whatever. If he did throw them, some of them looked very similar to the other ones. And if that's the case, he can definitely be effective with that."
  • Gary Sheffield: "To be honest with you, it's a comfortable at-bat, but he hits his spots. When you hit the spot and keep the ball down, you have success. If you get behind in the count and make a quality pitch, you're still not going to do too much damage to it. And that's what he did. Even when we took good swings, we hit it off the end of the bat or we hit a hard ground ball."
  • Brandon Inge: "Mainly more than anything, it was his delivery. It would be nice and slow, and then all of a sudden, he would kind of jump at you. And that's what kind of throws everyone's timing off. Had a very sneaky fastball."

Inge cautioned, "He didn't stand out to be the most dominating thing I've ever seen." But he certainly looked like a good pitcher to them. The fact that he could get so many early outs -- less than a handful of three-ball counts all night by my count -- shows that he was pitching aggressively with some deceptive movement. These hitters don't chase anymore to the extent they used to. Efficient outings like that are more often a credit to the pitcher now than an indictment on the Tigers lineup.

As for Granderson in center field, he wasn't sure what it was that threw him off on Coco Crisp's line drive or on some of the other balls, including the Julio Lugo liner where he made a diving catch. He didn't think it was the lights, though.

Didn't ask anyone whether a long night of traveling had anything to do with the hitting. For what it's worth, they didn't get into the hotel here in Boston until almost 4:30 in the morning.

Dice-K circumvented the Tigers hitting approach with the best pitch in baseball, strike one. He threw some first pitch fastballs right down the middle and the Tigers, correctly, were trying to see what he was featuring. Once he gets ahead in the count, he goes to a variety of breaking pitches and then you're in trouble. He should do well. In fact, he'd better do well with all the money spent on him.

When I used the term "collapse" I was taking a good natured jab at the Red Sox history. I actually see nothing that makes me think they'll collapse, or anything like it, maybe just level off some. The Sox and Yankees are still the teams to beat in the East.

What I find interesting about the Red Sox is that there are only three regular starters left from their 2004 club. You've got Ramirez, Varitek, and Ortiz at DH. Youkilis played some that year, but he wasn't a regular.

You are missing our pitchers that were their in 2004 to. About Dice-K he didn't even have his A game and i think he will keep getting better. O does ur manager want to talk **** about wake and chilling i think it is working for us.

Red Soxs are definately a great team right now that is getting some great pitching. Tigers on the other hand are a great team that is getting some inconsistent pitching.

I don't think that Nate did a bad job last night, actually I think that he did a good job, but the Red Soxs killed him by fouling off all of those pitches. Byrdak did a nice job, but Bobby Seay had a ruff outing, and lately he has been terrific. I think that in general the bull pen.

Does it seem like to anyone else that the Tigers always seem to get the other team out of whatever funk they are in? Case in point, when we played Seattle last week, there offense was struggling, they score 19 runs off of our pitches. Minnesota's offense struggling, they score 16 runs and countless hits off of our pitching. Yesterday Dice-K struggling, has his best outing of the year. So glad that we can be helpful???

Well thanks for the help then . What I would be worried about is fatgie in ur pitching staf look and the redsoxs after we won the ws and the white soxs and their staf after their run. I think ur staff will get worn down.
