Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Indians

The Tigers lineup is back at full strength. Nick Castellanos returns to the lineup at third base, his first start since Aug. 6. He’s in the seventh spot behind Justin Upton, stretching out the productive part of the Tigers batting order if his timing is right at the plate. The lineup below is being used for just the 11th time this season, according to, and the first time since June 11. It’s still the most common of the 97 different lineup combinations the Tigers have used this season.

The Indians come back from their hangover game with much of their lineup back in action except for Mike Napoli, who gets a second consecutive day off.

Of course, everyone could be getting a day off if the weather is bad enough tonight. There’s a massive line of rain in Ohio right now that’s trying to rotate counterclockwise, with Detroit right in the path. If it makes that turn, it’s going to be a long night or a doubleheader tomorrow. At this time of year, especially with postseason implications, Major League Baseball is in charge of postponements. With rain in the forecast tomorrow, both teams traveling tomorrow night and Monday reserved for a potential tiebreaker (which the Tigers could easily be involved in playing), MLB would much rather get this in tonight.

Long arduous innings for Fulmer….Quick easy outs for McCallister. Way to go Tigers.

Get used to it
Mike is off a bit tonight and this will not be like yesterday

Get Fulmer out of there freaking ridiculous….he’s a lot off.

He has IT. Scoreless inning

If game is rained out do they start new tomorrow or resume play bottom third?

new game

Looks like weather in Atlanta for Fri-Sun is perfect. Sunny, upper 70s to low 80s for daytime highs. Detroit weather is rain for tonight and chance all day tomorrow. No rain forecast for Detroit on Monday. Could end up playing DH or one game then.(knowing the final outcomes of WC chase teams). Don’t know if I like that scenario.

Ok. Back to baseball tonight

Time to pull him out

Yes. Good move Brad. Control struggles tonight. Hardy in.

Does any pitcher on this team want to throw a strike

Rajai kills us
Fulmr did not have his stuff tonight
Hopefully it wasn’t nerves
But more just not having it
We have a real serious ball game here
Our bullpen decides our season and that is pretty sccary

Huge HR for Miggy
The way this guy thinks amazes me
I am sure he was looking at the Inning and the weather

1 run and 3 outs and it is over

Fulmer sure had a rough night, I feel bad for him. Let’s go Tigers!

Davis does seem to compete well against the Tigers even though he has only put up Gose numbers this year, without the defense. In fact, over the last 30 games, Davis is much worse at .200/.226/.289. Go figure.

Grilli, who else, allowed a HR to Trumbo. The injured Benoit not available

We love you Miggy!!!!!!!!!!!

Regulation game.
How do you like me now?

Thanks Miggy now let’s call this game!

If a game is called, it is a regulation game:

(2) If the home team has scored more runs in four or four and a fraction half-innings than the visiting team has scored in five completed half-innings

It is MLBs call

Os ahead

Miggy has gone off this series-10 RBIs so far.

Ozuna with the BS

1 Game back

Called. Sweet.

You don’t want to be behind the O’s in the 9th. Texiera with the walk off 2 out slam for Yanks.

Bring on the weekend…….

Great game and special AB by Miggy in the rain. This guy transcends normality.
He knew this was an opportune time.
Damn Osuna. He’s been struggling and blew our chance to tie the O’s. Damn.
And awful for the incredible Blue Jay fans. Maybe the best in baseball.

Attendance-wise, you mean?

Miggy is raking.
Can he keep this going?
He keeps hitting an the Tigers win.
No pressure Miguel

Houston, Detroit, Jays closers imploded

I see Jordan is starting opener at Atlanta. That was Boyd’s turn I think. Interesting. Zim has obviously pitched against Atlanta a few times. And he was used to swinging a bat.

Somebody in Boston’s pen imploded tonight. They blew a 3-0 lead in the 9th.

1. Sometimes, the rain is beautiful.
2. The Tigers take advantage of Indian defensive insecurity.
3. Cream always rises to the top.
Thanks Ian and Blaine. Fulmer prevented a big inning from developing.

Fate of the Tigers comes down to the last few games. Miggy has to stay hot to pull this off .No major screw ups by anyone .

I thought Detroit would win 85 games this year. Now they have four games to prove I underestimated them. With a 1:10 start tomorrow, we have all day to get the entire game in. In case they don’t make the postseason, this has been our playoffs.

Weather is beyond ugly here…I’ll be shocked if they are able to play the game

I’ll have to check score during my lunch break. Very cloudy where I am.

Batting cages submerged……cars underwater on the Lodge…again I just don’t see it.

I don’t see this game being played but understand why MLB is waiting. The ramifications of moving around the postseason schedule are large. Well, MLB made it’s bed……..

I can’t even imagine what the real attendance would be if they do play this today.

Might be pretty good on Monday though. It would be like a playoff game with regular season prices.

Best for both teams. Should have been done earlier so teams could get where they need to go. Not to mention the playing conditions potentially causing injuries. MLB desperate to stay on track. Who cares about what’s right? Now we watch and see who we gain or lose a half game on. Almost mathematically impossible for Monday’s game 162 not to mean something to one or both these teams. Are the Yanks and Red Sox up to the task of helping us?

Go Jays!!!

On to Georgia and the last place Braves have won 9 of their last 10

This is contingent on the Tigs winning out: Orioles beat Jays, both Jays and Orioles lose 2 of 3. Jays & Orioles play a tie breaker on Tuesday. Tigers get a day off then host the winner who had to use their best pitcher the day before.

Vintage Ubaldo Jimenez with6.1 scoreless innings. Not only the Tigers

Let’s just simplify all of this. Sweep Atlanta.

Make that 10 of last 11. They are 28-24 in last 52. First in some offensive categories. They have a good closer. And an incentive to win the last games @ Turner Field. I watched last 2 innings tonight. They look good. This will not be easy. I don’t know why but all of this makes me feel more comfortable than if they were playing poorly. Tigers know what they’re getting into. Jays do Tigers no favors and lose to Orioles. Now both of them control their destinies. Need to sweep Atlanta. Yankees are hot and playing for pride. I expect them to do more damage to the Orioles than the Sox do to the Jays. Almost imperative that one of them loses 2 of 3.

Seattle won. Is a FOUR way tie possible?

Our Jim Johnson is their closer
It was the worst scenery possible and became real. O´s the team taking two

A 4 way tie is possible because none of the 4 are playing each other. 1st combination would be Seattle finishing 3-0, Tigers 3-1, Baltimore 1-2 , and Toronto 1-2. That makes everyone 88-74. 2nd combination would be Seattle 2-1, Tigers 2-2, Baltimore and Toronto each 0-3. Seattle has Oakland and is the only home team. They’re situation is starting to look pretty good. C’mon Oakland you got to be good for one. Probably playing some AA guys.

I had to check that out El T. Johnson was drafted by Baltimore in 2006. Tigers acquired him from Oakland in 2014. He went 1-0, after going I think it was 4-2 for them. What was that deal? I vaguely remember him, but seems like longer ago than 2014. Guess not. Anyway, he’s 2-6 for Atlanta this year with a 6 something era but 16 for 16 in saves. Doesn’t add up……..

His BB% went over the top. Historic levels ( in the wrong way) for relievers. Against all the odds ,as soon a he left the Tigers he found his usual self

as soon as

Getting my stats wrong. Sorry. Johnson is 2-6 but has an era of 3.02 and has 18 saves in 21 opportunities. They put a graphic up last night that I thought said 16-16, but maybe that was showing his last 16 SVO. He is having a good year though.

The other teams are sure not making it any easier are they? Toronto is such an enigmatic team. From Blaze to Blasé
Many ways they have had the same problems as the Tigers.
Now I have to pull for them to lose!

Tigers longest Winning Streak:8

Tigers will not have to face Foltynewicz, one of 3 Atlanta pitchers with over 100 innings for the year (also with best record 9-5). Wizler is 7-12 with 4.86 ERA. He’s pitched 152 innings, second most on team. Their site says his fastball has improved making his slider more effective. Tigers have 5, almost 6 over 100 innings. Looks like Atlanta has been trying to find guys.

Needless to say, EVERY game is a MUST “W” to get into the playoffs. ONE game at a time, I hope the bats are humming and the Starting Pitchers are painting the corners! GO Tigers!!!! It’s fun to be in the playoff hunt isn’t it!!!!!
