Friday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Orioles

While Nick Castellanos progresses to ground balls at third base in his rehab from a fractured left hand, Erick Aybar gets the start at third base against Kevin Gausman, who takes the mound with a 19-inning scoreless streak and a 4-0 record with a 1.40 ERA over his last four starts. Michael Fulmer, whose scoreless streak of 33 1/3 innings in May and June remains the longest in the Majors this year, is 0-3 with a 6.48 ERA in three starts since he shut out the Rangers last month at Texas.

At the game tonight…….hopefully Fulmer can’t limit the apparent limitless homers of the orioles and the tiger’s can score runs against a guy who hasn’t given up any in 19 innings

And hopefully he starts to find his strikeout pitch again. He does get his outs but he is far more effective when he is missing bats.
So far tonight he appears once again to be pitching to contact.
Any reports on VMart’s physical condition? Love the guy but unless he is just busting down fences he is virtually useless.

Yep he is virtually useless

1st and 3rd nobody out with 3 and 4 hitters up what do the tiger’s do……..but waste it. Jeez

Aaargh! That’s what we were talking about (the BIG hit). Our two top hitters did not deliver at a critical time in a critical game in a critical time of the season.

Be careful Michael with Davis. Don’t find his happy zone!

And Victor does crap again….sorry dude is not contributing he needs to be moved down. It’s freaking ridiculous.

Actually he shouldn’t even be in the lineup. Totally lost his confidence, weak swings, no swings etc.
Awful performance and if it hadn’t been for JD they would have certainly lost this game. Total buzz kill. JD picked him up big time—now that’s the BIG hit.

Aguilas del Zulia announced that Gose will play in Maracaibo

Wonder if he can hit there?

I guess nobody has to get down on Miggy for not hitting, he is taking care of that himself. Not happy after that at bat.

3-4 tonight have been brutal

And today the other Wilson decides to suck. Tiger’s formula to a tee……wasting opportunities for runs….keep it close then the pen gives it away.

This is one godawful bullpen isn’t it?
Might be nice if the coaching staff could convince Upton to simply play 5 bloody feet closer.

That run scored on Wilson was not his fault. Upton plays way too deep becuz of his defensive problems going back. So, the single afterwards was a gift run thanks to Mr. Brick Glove.

What is wrong with Fulmer? Doesn’t he know that as a starter he can’t give up two runs or make even one mistake?

Victor due up 1st. Can he redeem himself or are we going to have to endure another lousy AB?
And if Aybar gets up does Moya sit on the bench? Salty?

sit who?

Him….he’s been worse than aweful

Better late than never Victor….

Would of been nice had you done that when you had runners on bUT I’ll take it

4 hit last 12 AB

the slump ended 3 days ago

Who was all that bitching about? And who hit the HR? Lastly, who wants to eat the crow first? C’mon…

K-Rod is my problem child. Chuckn’duck on out 1.

a play-off team

Game over.

K-Rod survived!

Time for the crow eaters to stand up and eat up Come on …Well, at least V-Mart stood up.

The Tigers have 11 go-ahead HR in 8th inning or later this season, per @STATS_MLB. That is 2nd most in MLB (TEX – 12)

Of course it’s a great victory but Wilson blows it and still gets the win? I know I’m beating a dead hose but rules should be changed to give that win where it belongs – Fulmer!

3rd inning: where’s that big hit?
5th inning: there’s that big hit
8th inning: great big hit (homers are always big hits)
I thought it imperative to win the first game and they did it. Somehow. Again.
Upton plays deep enough to share a beer with the customers out there and Alex W. was the victim. Bullpen did well tonight. Frankie reminds me of Todd Jones; it’s not always pretty but I have confidence he’ll get it done (I realize my favorable view of Jonesy is not shared by many).

What if they traded Upton and used the money to sign JD to a nice contract.

Jackson played too shallow and Upton too deep? Some teams are using sprays snd lasers to podition the OF.The shift, and the Os shoewed it with 2 RF vs Victor, includes the OF.
I dont know if the Tigers are doing it, but the analytics guys or the OF coach are in charge of that.Playing deep the chances of xbases are reduced while giving away singles ,unless the OF dives.

All I can say is the coaching staff must be blind. So it’s a much needed win and a good start to the weekend . Hope and pray for another tomorrow .

Cleveland wins again

Late in to the replay;went to the Roanoke Symphony with 66 year old Billy Ocean struttin his stuff. He actually looks about 80, but still puts on a good show. Anyhow, saw our show on replay, and will hold any deep thought since everyone has posted some good pickins’ already.DB’s last post is the most relevant happening. Cleveland just does not lose enough. Wild Card seems now to be the only option. It was essential to win tonight; tomorrow will take care of itself:
1. Martinez, Martinez, and a guy name Aybar.
2. Another really good start by Fulmer, especially against the O’s lineup. Mr. Jonathan for the O’s has some quick wrists.
3. Worked Gausman to get on base; decided to stay there. should have driven him off the mound by the fifth.
Kudos to Julio, Ian, and Cam for at least two hits each, Aybar for the twobie RBI, Victor for the winning bomb, Fulmer, and KRod who needed just 15 pitches for three up and down in the ninth. Miggy and JUp couldn’t hit a barn tonight; but through all that, with 22 games left, we’re tied for a playoff spot. Can’t ask for much more at this juncture. Hope Nick makes it back by the 18th.

I noted several posts ago that both Maybin and Upton were reported by the MLB (?) broadcast crew to play very deep. The reason given was that both of them have trouble going back on balls. Gose was the opposite. He played very shallow.

Kill the Win:
Fulmer leads the AL in ERA.: 2.76 ,10-6 despite a healthy RS of 5.00
Porcello 3.21, 20-3 RS 6.97. 7 runs per game
You cant have both. Porcello became Fulmer thru Cespedes

Upton went to the ground for the one hit out his way and Dan & Jim thought he caught it and it fell out of his glove. It actually hit the ground and he put his glove over it and it rolled under his body. I was surprised he went to the ground because he seldom, if ever, does. Be nice if he could develop that “slide” like Magglio had. Mr. Upton has made some spectacular catches at the wall to take away definite homeruns.

Beck on Twitter: Tigers have the second most go-ahead HRs (11) in the 8th inning or later in MLB. Only Texas has more (12). CLUTCH!

The stat includes 3 of V-Mart’s last 8 HRs.
