Labor Day lineups: Tigers at White Sox

Cameron Maybin returns to the starting lineup after re-injuring his left thumb on a slide at second base last Monday against the White Sox at Comerica Park. He’ll bat leadoff with Ian Kinsler getting a day off after he took a ground ball off his right ring finger in the ninth inning on Sunday.

Nice to see Jacoby Jones in the line-up…Romine getting an opportunity at 2b…Is he valuable or what? There is no easy win for this team…Every game is an adventure.

Apparently Garcia can’t hit anyone but the Tigers?

Big inning for JV (6th). Get thru it

JV starting to miss location. Cuidado.

Lucky Morneau didn’t yard him.
Really needs to get his pitches to Frazier. The 6th inning has always seemed to be a tough one for Justin after a well pitched game

JV was starting to miss his fastball and yet he was going with it for the most part. Thankfully he remembered his Uncle Charly.

Same problem as usual with JV….pitches well but always way too many pitches ….and unfortunately the pen is thin

James has had some big hits while catching JV over the last 2 seasons

Crap…..Avila

They have 10 relievers

None of theach decent ones available

Rondon has been pretty good lately. And Ryan too

Dang Victor it would be nice for you to figure it out soon .080 last 7 0 rbi…last 15 .204 with 4 rbi. Not acceptable

Ausmus is showing real faith in JW here.

2 RH and Avila. He is ok vs RHB. And Avila is Avila

Do you think that if Aybar had not tried to tag him they would of turned 2…..I do.

OMG! J Up.

Upton continues on his tear to carry the Tigers into the lead with his 3-run blast. I admit I gave up on him last month about the same time Henning wrote his damning article about Upton’s probable inability to make needed mechanical changes in-season. Yum, yum. That crow sure tastes good. Dan, would you like to share?

Yes, I would….keep it up JUP….

More K-Rod drama.

Seems like Frankie’s best days are behind him.

I believe they just pulled another one out of their ass! Keep believing and the magical spell too!

Great pitching job by both starters.JV has been absolutely fabulous over his last 13 starts. The BP got the job done. Miggy and Upton were HUGE. Good win.

I ate some yesterday didn’t I?
Will accept more as dessert today though. He has been admittedly getting better and better.
Still wanting a back-up plan for the pen though and particularly for the 9th inning.

Porcello 6.75 RS. First in MLB. Verlander 3.90. 9th to last. W are meaningless stat. 9th game with 2 runs or less allowed without a W for Verlander

Anybody else think the radar gun at Cellular needs calibrating?

J-Up, don’t take BP until you feel the need! Just watch Miggy, VM, Julio bash and dream of your own launches. He may earn his salary yet for this year.

I warned you guys; That young son of mine, a lifelong Braves fan, kept telling me to be patient with Upton. Now I really see what he meant when he said, he’ll do nothin’ for 40 AB’s, then knock the cover off the ball for three weeks. What impresses me more than anything is the added drama. The guy is eating up center stage right now, because every homer is meaningful. Now 13 games over .550, really good starting pitchers, and I think we can hang until the end. J-Up might cool off soon, but he has sure given us a lift over the last two weeks. And who would want sny other guy on the mound right now to grit it out. I loved Mr. JV’s antics toward Alex when he got him for another bomb in a week. He has pitched his guts out for us since July, and once again we don’t reward him individually; if you asked him, he wants a win whoever gets it. True grit, and a lot of us, including this know it all, wrote him off last year:
1. Miguel puts the team on his back for the homestretch.
2 The Pen minus Frankie was awesome; best J Wilson has looked in a month. Rondon grows and grows in maturity and confidence.
3. The walk to Julio which got Upton to bat. He had been whiffin’ on sliders all night
long,
Kudos to Miggy, JUp, McCann, JV, JW, AW, BR, and to iggy for fantastic D again. VMart looks very tired at this stage. His walk though proved to be critical also. Hope Ian’s finger does not become an issue. Maybin still can’t swing the bat well. This was one of the few games where he made no offensive contributions. But his team picked him up. Maybe Houston can trim the Tribe sails a bit, and we keep on a roll. Fantastic pitching battle between JV and Sale.

Miggy and J-up come thru big time .Like a blast from the past. Nice to start the series out with a win. Tribe also keeps on winning.

I guess you could call this another comeback win. I think Victor needs a day or more off.

These wins lately are just FUN. This is turning into one exciting race.

I’m going to guess that Victor gets Wednesday for a two day rest before Baltimore, especially if we win tomorrow. Worked for Miggy.

No problem between Miguel and Upton:

Probably, he was serious due to his own pain .
