Friday’s lineups: Tigers at Royals

The Tigers get Miguel Cabrera back into the lineup after he sat Wednesday with right ankle soreness, but Cameron Maybin remains out with the bruised left thumb. He swung the bat earlier today, Brad Ausmus said, but still felt discomfort. He remains day-to-day. JaCoby Jones, who would’ve started at third base, moves to center field instead. Erick Aybar makes his second career start at third base.

The Royals have Wade Davis back in their bullpen, returned from the disabled list after spending the last month or so on the disabled list with a right flexor strain. However, Lorenzo Cain remains out with a left wrist injury.

Quintin Berry, the new Lonnie Smith

Upton is looking like a carrier for several games now. I hope he is not just teasing us like he did earlier this season with his multi-HR game against Seattle. He would be a HUGE asset down the stretch.

Miggy didn’t look too happy with Sanchez. KC broadcasters felt he got “jammed” on the throw.

Maybe I’m stupid but I have no idea why they’re having Sanchez start.

Royals recently 2-17 RISP. Today 2-2…

Well Miguel who’s typically sure handed….his error is looming large to the tune of 3 runs and 21 extra pitches
Better make up for it with your bat dude cause you screwed up big time.

All the runs were unearned

And now it’s on Sanchez…..lordy

The Rod and Mario KC lovefest starting to grate on my every last nerve

Please take Justin Wilson out

Chad Grene: 10 K/9 2.51 ERA in 7 games during the second half. He was traded for Wilson. The Tigers will regret this trade. He came with a due to regress BB/9 and allowing a higher BAA to LHB

The bigger question is why did they put him in?
How often does this guy have to pitch like this before they realise he is not the guy they thought they were getting from the Yankees.
He has single-handedly destroyed some winnable games this year in the exact same manner.
Why not let Alex throw another inning?

LHB vs Wilson .293.318.427.744
RHB 237.291.373.664

Well hopefully KRod makes me choke on my words earlier today

Ooops-guess it wasn’t me who choked.

Never like to see K-Rod come on in the 8th–he is barely able to get through the 9th these days…

Well……this game comes down to 3 unearned run because of Miggy’s error…..Justin Wilson screwing up his job so Greene had to clean up his mess but wound up having to do too much and Krod unable to clean up Greene’s men on base. Yep those three unearned look VERY BIG!

Ok Miggy Redemption time

The Tigers come from behind to Win 37

AL average 30

Davis with the Blown Save too

Krod went from a blown save to a possible win? Come on Frankie!

24-15 in 1 run games.3rd best. 38 Comeback wins . The Tigers are one of the best teams after the 5th

Ooops again. I guess it was me after all.
Correct me if I am wrong does Frankie get a BS a Save!!!!!
Those Royals are relentless and they just grind you down but this team did not give up themselves.
Look for Miggy to go on a tear now.

(That is blown save & a save)

Tongue in cheek

This Tig season has more theatre than you would find in a lifetime of watching any other sport.
How we have had so many come back wins when our setup pitchers other than Alex Wilson all have 4+ ERA’s with even Greene in the high 4’s as a reliever.

Because they score a lot of runs in the 6th and 7th innings

Guardian angels watching over the Tigers. Nice to get another win !
Almost hard to believe Isn’t it ?

Greg, your list of tonight’s stars will be a long one.

Kinda what I meant by needing a back-up plan for that pen.
It is not reliable by any stretch of the imagination.
They need to call up some help with the expanded roster
BTW-Iggy and his legs won that game for us. Defensively and offensively

Frankie got a bs and a win

A few observations: It was great to finally beat the Royals, anywhere and any way. The do not go away; and Anabal would have surrendered more runs, had the error on Miggy not occurred. Getting five from him was a gift from God; Brad finally realized this and din’t try to get six. Getting to Duffy early was the foundation for the victory; Whipping Boy yanks another bomb and the 4-0 lead at least got us on the right track.
Frankie loses the save but wins the game; Green keeps inherited runners from scoring, but gets hit to start a clean inning. Justin Wilson, Well let’s just say he shows up mostly to do his Phil Coke imitation. So what’s the outcome? Two lousy errors, gave up 6 runs on 11 hits, faved the best closer over the last three years, and WON the game. How’s that for baseball:
1. 7 RBI’s from 3,5, and 6.
2. Alex Wilson should pitch one of each of 9 innings for the next 9 games.
3. Loveed the intensity to come back in the ninth after blowing two leads.
Kudos to Miggy, who looked like old Miggy, J-Up who looks like new J-Up, Iggy for just looking like Iggy,Julio for looking like the Corona Beer Guy, James for looking like a major league catcher, and Alex Wilson for not looking like Justin Wilson. Our heroes who looked lost tonight were VMart and Jacoby.
Hope Fulmer with no beard pitches better than his bearded self did last week. We need to return the favor to the Royals from last weeks sweep. Finally kudos to Rod, not for looking, but sounding like the foll that he is. Sorry Rod!

It’s September and Miggy is hitting.314 with 29 home runs and 85 rbi. Hey stat guy, who is the best with 2 outs in the late innings to knock in a run? Go Tigers! –Dave

RBIs :
In the 7th or later, Victor. Kinsler and Miguel
With 2 outs, Upton, Castellanos and Miguel

Watching Hosmer, Morales, and Perez FLAILING in the 9th was pure joy. Miguel on both above lists. No surprise.

Very entertaining wrap Greg.

I hope management has learned to never acquire LH Yankee Stadium relievers from the Yankees. How about every time Brad is thinking of using J. Wilson he uses Kyle Ryan instead? Or else forget about those L-R matchups altogether?
Salvadore Perez in the 9th looked like someone who had sustained a head injury. Oh wait, he had.

Was thinking the same thing about those LH relievers we get from the Yanks

Brad also has Blaine Hardy as an option from the portside.
Justin Wilson has two pitches and he pitches them both with predictability.
Tough game for Jacoby but hopefully a learning experience.
Really think they need Moya on this bench.
Toledo has two guys that could help. One is well documented and the other is a sleeper of sorts.
Preston Guilmet has fanned 81 guys in only 67 innings while allowing just 12 walks.
His ERA and WHIP are both very good and he has late game experience. His minor league career numbers over 8 seasons are very similar to what he has done this year.
I’m looking at a guy who DESERVES a September call-up.

Too bad they didn’t get those OTHER LHP from the Yanks. You know–the ones the Cubs and Indians got!!

I agree with the broadcasters from KC and their take on Miggy being “jammed” by Sanchez, who threw him a low outside fastball from 50 feet away when Miggy was waiting on a higher, more manageable throw. To me, that error on Miggy was more of a Wild Pitch by Sanchez. Plus Miggy made a great stop late in the game in addition to pounding the ball for 4 RBIs. Without Miggy, the Tigers get beat by KC.

Saw it the same way. Anibal is not much of a contributor on balls in play.
Remember Kenny Rogers? Earl Wilson? (Yes he could field too)

I am really starting to appreciate Alex Wilson (in so many ways). He is what the doctor ordered.

Miggy leads AL 1st sackers in Asists as well as Fielding %.
He is up there on DPs and dWar.
And he has done this while not playing every game at 1st (DH sometimes).
Hard to compare him to others for taking away hits but compared to all opposition 1B men that I have seen all year long he is visibly superior.
He should be seriously considered for a Gold Glove.

And while I’m at it—anybody know how they compute dWar? Curiously enough if you look at all MLB 1st basemen there are only THREE in the top 20 (and barely at that) that have a positive rating.
How can that be if you are comparing apples to apples? They must be compared overall.

Just re-watched the 9th inning, what was Yost thinking pitching to Miggy? And what a job Frankie did! He struckout with Hosmer nothing but changups which set up Morales to blow 3 straight 90 mph fastballs by him which set Perez for the curveball. What great execution of a 9th inning game plan.
