Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers vs. White Sox (updated)

Though Miguel Cabrera enters the final month of the season with his best health in a few years, his right ankle continues to send reminders of his injury history. The surgically repaired ankle was sore Tuesday night, prompting Tigers manager Brad Ausmus to rest Cabrera for Wednesday’s series finale against the White Sox at Comerica Park.

“His surgically repaired ankle flares up from time to time,” Ausmus said. “It flared up in Minnesota [last week]. It happened again last night.”

Given Victor Martinez’s success against Chris Sale, giving Cabrera a day at DH wasn’t happening today. Thus, Ausmus decided to pair up a day off today with the Tigers’ scheduled off-day tomorrow, giving Cabrera two days of rest ahead of Friday’s series opener at Kansas City. Jarrod Saltalamacchia starts at first base today, while JaCoby Jones shifts from third base to center field.

Melky Cabrera, who left last night’s game with dehydration issues, was originally in Wednesday’s lineup but was scratched with stomach discomfort. J.B. Shuck gets his first swings at Verlander in his place.

Well two straight homers given up by Verlander…..3 hits soxs have 2 homers and a double…..meanwhile tiger’s have 4 hits and a walk and have done nothing

If, now I say IF, the Tigers are able to come back, it will be the 3rd game this week vs the WSox. That may be pushing their luck a bit far.

Hoo wooda thunk. Jones and Romine combine for a run vs Sale while all the highly paid players have mashed potatoes on their faces.

Hope it works but I don’t like Iggy sacrificing there

Victor crapped his pants with risp again today
Now stranding 4 today. Heaven forbid he even hit the ball into the shift that he’s so damn good at. VERY DISAPPOINTED IN YOU VICTOR MARTINEZ
💩💩💩💩
.

Thank god they other Martinez did their job

v-mART FAILED AGAIN. dIDN’T EVEN PUT THE BALL IN PLAY TO PLATE THE TYING RUN.

Whoops. At least the the ROLLING Rocky Martinez came up big again!

JV was again excellent. No BBs and 9 ks in 7 IP.

K-Rod once again made it interesting, but he came through for the Tigers. At least no one crushed the ball off him today

Really not much to whine about today.Good pitching. The hitters came up CLUtCH once again when it counted most.

And gotta give it to Avila. Hit a big fly and made just an outstanding stop on a potential WP and winning run.

Repeating> Hoo wooda thunk. Jones, Salty, Collins win another comeback game. We could get used to this if our hearts and nerves can stand the strain.

Well, have we found another hero for the stretch run? Mr. Jacoby sure looks the part in his first two games. what a good ballgame. Good stuff! JV wows again, even though he;s been bitten by the homer bug more often this year. A money pitcher whose whip now has hit 1 or lower. Glad miggy gets two days to rest the ankle , and we still sweep those pesky “Sawx”:
1. 9 gets the first RBI off Sale.
2. Jones has solid power to the right field gap.
3. The Sox get one hit after the 4th. Inning.
Kudos to Jones, Julio, Ian,Salty, and Andrew. Two walks for JUp, and a solid 8th. for Ryan. JV certainly should be in the Cy Young conversation with his second half performance. If his team could hit, he’d have 17-18 wins easily. Big time sweep for the Good Guys, Hawk. KC will be the next challenge, but the starting pitching continues to give us a chance in most every game. Thrilled for Jacoby’s Mamma, who got to see it live.

Oh wow what a win . Talk about late inning runs . Much needed win going into September . Jones came thru again with clutch hitting and scores the winning run.
Clean sweep !!!
