Sunday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Red Sox

Cameron Maybin felt good enough taking batting practice Saturday that he told manager Brad Ausmus that he felt ready to return. After a few at-bats in Jordan Zimmermann’s simulated game Sunday morning, the Tigers gave him the go-ahead, activating him from the 15-day disabled list. Dixon Machado, who hasn’t started since the Erick Aybar trade, was optioned to Triple-A Toledo to make room.

Meanwhile, Victor Martinez gets a day out of the lineup, which coupled with Monday’s scheduled off-day will give him two days of rest ahead of the upcoming series at Minnesota. Miguel Cabrera gets a day at DH, with Jarrod Saltalamacchia starting at first base.

On the Red Sox side, big lefty Henry Owens gets a spot start with Eduardo Rodriguez injured.

With the Red Sox involved, today is a TBS Sunday afternoon broadcast, for those of you watching outside of Michigan.

5 tiger’s strike out in 2 innings…..excellent work Tigers.
.

So far the Red Sox pitcher Owens the Tigers. Can they figure him out before too late?

I hope so but I’m also not holding my breath

I expect Machado will be traded before Spring.
Not sure how AA will handle the Free Agent situation next year but he better get some good advice
.
The WAR for our FAs:

Lowe -1.3
F-Up -0.6
Aviles -0.6
Salty +0.5
Zim +0.7
Pelf +0.4
Not a FA but Justin Wilson is at +0.1

WOWser Upton wakes upton!

Challenge> When was the last time a Tiger hit a HR with men on base?

Friday….jd ….Right a 2 run homer but your point is still well taken

Way to go nice 3rd…..looked like they were going to waste 2&3rd…..but JD and J-Up came through@

When was the last time Upton hit a 2-0 pitch?

don,t kno ef i kin tipe thes sittin on da flor……….Upton HR agin!

Wow………..J-Up

Laugher no longer a laugher…..PLEASE BRAD GET GREEN OUT OF THERE

Greene hasn’t “had it” since he came back from DL.

Kudos to Kate for keeping the faith in J-Up and showing some tender hearted sympathy and support for the guy. Maybe, just maybe, he is ready for the “big carry” we’ve all invested our hearts into. I like the guy but had pretty much lost faith in him doing anything this season. Realistically there is no reliable option to replace him now. I’m good with that. Stick with the horses. It would make a good story if he could catch fire from here to the playoffs. Not going unnoticed, look whose return sparked a victory. My Tiger this year Camron. Everything goes better when he’s playing. Long hill to climb, but not insurmountable. Love the useless statistics Rod and Mario will sometimes throw out there. Today’s special was the fact that with 36 8 run leads in his career JV has not lost one of them. Imagine that. Would not have believed it if I didn’t hear it myself. They weren’t pulling my leg were they? Kudos to the marathoners today. That was a great race to watch. So much “honest” drama. And is Usain Bolt cool or what?

It was certainly impressive. Looks much more confident now.
I worried about Maybin. One foul ball made me think he was favouring his wrist-
Then he comes up and hits a solid single to clinch the game!
The day and half will still help him

Nice to see the bats come alive today. Maybe J-Up can continue to hit. Was not impressed with Greene . The Tribe just keeps on winning.

Fun win, I was happy to see Upton not get robbed by inches…..and then he does it again. Hopefully he has unlocked the secret. Nobody deserved it more than him today.
Hats off to Tiger fans for the love they showed Ortiz, that’s what good baseball fans do.
Welcome back Cam, stay healthy.
Sorry to see the Olympics come to the end. Yes, Bolt is beyond cool & the guy looks like a giraffe running. It’s a beautiful thing to watch him run.

Just a FU on Aviles. The Braves DFAd him on 8/17. Maybe we can get him back.

Cam just makes a difference in the lineup, evev when he doesn’t make contact. Hopefully, he can finish out with no more major problems. The two RBI single made for a roaring return. And how about the whipping boy? According to all the stats, his bat speed has been second over the last couple of years. My son kept telling me, and I ragged Upton more and more; the two bombs today were both impressive shots; maybe he won’t hit another one, but it was two straight games where he really squared up the ball. We’ll take it for today, and hope for tomorrow. His Brother, formerly BJ helped us out a while today; I got to see BJ, Ryan Zimmerman,Mark Reynolds, and Eric Wright all play in the Virginia Commonwealth Baseball Games in 2002. My son was the starting third baseman on the losing West Squad. But it was pretty exciting to see 4 future major leaguers on the same team.
Liked Aybar in the nine spot today, ala Iggy. Kinsler and Miggy remain lost. As mentioned earlier, Green has hit a brick wall in the last couple of outings. Three things I really liked about the finale.:
1. Salty saw 32 pitches with two walks in 4 AB’s today.
2. 10 runs score with 2 outs. Amazing!
3.J Wilson has another strong outing.
Kudos to JV for being a true Ace. Also to Julio who continues to clobber the ball, to J-Up fornever giving up, to Cam for the return hit, And to Aybar for two nice base hits.
Also props to Ryan for a nice 9th. I’m glad VMart got a breather. Ready for Miggy and Victor to have big games against the Twinkies. All things considered I’m glad we got the split.

JV…Another QS. His 20th in 26th starts. Only one ER in 6 innings. He again gave his team an excellent chance to win. And it is this kind of QS that the 4.50 ERA proponents entirely overlook when they put the slam on this stat. .

Suggestion for
Cameron: Concentrate on playing and talking less about yourself.
Ian: Put a cockatoo on your back shoulder and don’t let him fall off (The team really needs this guy to start hitting again)
