Friday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Red Sox

The fact that Tyler Collins pinch-ran for Miguel Cabrera was a pretty good sign that Collins wasn’t going to miss a few days as feared. He’s back in the Tigers lineup against former teammate Rick Porcello, who makes his first start at Comerica Park since being traded to Boston two years ago.

Justin Upton, meanwhile, has one more day out of the starting lineup to clear his head and work on his swing mechanics with Wally Joyner and David Newhan. Brad Ausmus has said he’d like to get him a complete day off, but late-game situations have led to him entering the last two games as a replacement for Collins and a pinch-runner for Victor Martinez.

This is in my opinion(I know everyone has one) this is a good lineup…Romine
is worth every dollar he makes ane more) the other *guy is overpaid. Good luck
Tigers! It would be a good thing if we have some consistancy in the bullpen….KC
coming on strong…

I guess we’re expecting a lot of hits up the middle . . . . .

Well that’s a crappy first inning!

Fullmer is not a consistent strike-out guy is he? You’d kinda think with the stuff he has he would have that part of his game every start.
Had a big pitch count that 1st inning but has recovered nicely.
Whoa Tyler all the way in to the infield on that pop!
The only way you ever see F-Up that far to the infield is when he is coming in to bat at the end of an inning.

Probably shouldn’t have let him see the last few batters…..slow on the uptake again Brad

Moving on to the Olympics again. Good luck Tigers

Yes, Brad is generally too slow. Then when he makes a move it is often not based on common sense…

Not sure what Brad was thinking. Same time tomorrow night.

Turned to Olympics…keeping a half eye on it? Looking at Cleveland games who where about to get beat….but low and behold they hit two consecutive homers in the bottom of the 9th to win. Some teams do what it takes to win and some just don’t.

Mcghee has basically played every game at third since Nick went out. He has one extra base hit; Love Romine, Collins in gruff, but neither brought to the game what Cam did. Since Iggy is out, no one has picked up the slack. Take out the Baskert Case(Upton), and not much is left; Ian is in a horrible slump, Miggy goes hot and cold, and VMart sort of follows Miggy. That leaved Julio as the only consistent hitter in the lineup right now. The outcome(not enough to beat Boston.)
Fulmer was due a bad outing; it happens to all of them. If the lineup is hitting at the norm, four runs is not an insurmountable deficit. When you bring in the star power, that lead is suddenly 8 and your’e cooked for sure. Lowe needs to go on the Bereavement List(his own) and not pitch again this year. Bruce got his one guy. Leave it at that. Clevleand trailed all the way until the ninth, and of course they won. Seven out, with KC slobbering to take second from us. It’s just not in the stars this year; way too many obstacles to overcome. Will have to conclude that Al Avila struck out in free agency; all of the young talent really got here via Dombrowski trades and moves. When and if Cam gets back, I would flip him and Ian in the line up. Would also move Iggy to 7, Catcher 8, and Upton 9. Would flip Julio and Victor also. You would be no worse off, except there will only be 20 games left if that when Nick returns. Separate Mig and VMart due to base running. That lineup would win 16 games in a row., and everything would be hunky dory:
1. Ryan.
2. Julio
3. Miggy’s defensive Gem.
Kudos to Julio. Just not sure I would pitch to Papi if he came up with anyone on base.
That lineup is pretty scary. Finally Ricky P, who I use to defend against continuous criticism, made us look like the a herd of helpless sheep. Pitching at 27 with 102 career victories. I don’t regret the trade; I just felt like he would be a 15 game winner for many years. Because we have so many mega contracts, there was no way to keep him. Another reason why I hate the business of baseball. Moonbeeam might nnot know what hit him after tomorrow evening. Maybe a good night’s sleep in te VW will help him throw the best game of his career.

Worst collection of Free Agents in baseball

Almost uncanny

One of my pet peeves is why they decided to take Wynton Bernard off the 40 man and then send him to Erie. He wasn’t exactly blowing the cover off the ball at AAA, but he is still a good OFer. They sent him to Venezuela instead of Arizona for Fall League and then never called him up in September and that was when he was hitting. I’m pretty sure he’d do just as well or better than Upton. The guy just got screwed over.

Read the article about K-Rod’s “save” on Thursday:
http://www.detroitnews.com/story/sports/mlb/tigers/2016/08/19/tigers-k-rod-anatomy-game-saving-out/89017366/
What a delusional crock.
I guess walking the leadoff hitter and giving up a 1st pitch hit to Ortiz were all part of the plan?

Totally understand what you say about Bernard. He is hitting over .300 after being demoted. 20 SB on the year.

This team is mentally and emotionally exhausting. But they fooled me a couple of weeks ago …I won’t let them again. Like I said there even with the few people out of the lineup there is plenty of firepower in this lineup….they just need to stop sitting on there thumbs

I just caught up to an article about Upton that Henning wrote on Thursday. I know I have commented about Upton’s trigger foot being out of sync when he is at bat and others have chimed in about his approach to LF. Henning corroborated those perspectives and said the Tigers are working with Upton on his issues. But, Henning also felt that success might have to wait until next year because making muscle memory changes during a season can be difficult and self-defeating. I think I pretty much agree with Henning’s surmisal at this point.

Rumours surround Carlos Gomez. Obviously not solution but why not?
Even if Maybin returns he can play left with some personality and flair.

Gomez is another Upton, only older.

There is no “OTHER” Upton. Not at that salary.
Gomez would be cheap. Faster, plays better D and probably out-hit him this year
