Sunday’s lineups: Tigers at Rays

Chris Archer had his shortest start of the season against the Tigers May 22 at Comerica Park, roughed up for six runs on eight hits in three innings and 77 pitches. Three of those hits came from Miguel Cabrera, who returns to Detroit’s lineup after a day off Saturday. Andrew Romine, who had an RBI triple off Archer in that game, gets the start in center field, giving Cameron Maybin (who had three RBIs in that game) a day off.

Prediction: Ian just might be swinging for the fences today!
Pelfrey gives up double digit hits and gets 3 DPs from his infield.
Anibal Sanchez gets the win.

Boy was that ever ugly. Horrible ABs by the middle of the lineup who were ALL thinking home run instead of a more logical approach to hitting like we have seen from Iggy and Maybin lately.
I have no use for Upton. The guy is brutal.

I am so sick and tired of Upton I could scream!!!! I kept waiting for the huge break out, red hot stretch that makes us able to deal with the dry spells but all we get is little trickles of production. I know he’s not the only guy that struck out with bases loaded but clearly the one that pisses my off the most b/c so stinken predictable!! Now here’s to hoping by the end of the game I look like a fool for venting my frustration with Upton!!!!

Just got game on. Pelfrey 18 pitches, Archer 62 Pitches? Wow! I know it might not make a difference in the end but quite a spread right now.

I know Pelfrey has pitched some bad games but I also don’t think he has been given much support in games when he did not pitch that badly. Bad luck pitcher?

Upton failed again. Tigers revived Archer’s 4-11 season. Team LOB = 16.

Let’s hope the hitters’ strategy of striking out and consequently tiring Archer out will work now.

Another great showing by Rondón. Since he was recalled, the BP has been better

Gotta give a little credit to Upton for a clutch AB. Doesn’t change my opinion much though.
What really impressed me (almost as much as Kinsler’s heads up running) was VICTOR not giving up and running hard to stay out of the DP.

Agreed on Upton. I’m happy to eat some dirt from my earlier comment after the first inning K but so much want to see him get on one of those torrid streaks we heard so much about when we signed him. What better time starting tomorrow in Cleveland after barreling up to balls today!!

3rd walk today for Cabrera. The managers still respect him. He did do something today. He was IBB during the important AB.

What a blessing to see Big Pelf pitch well today!! Did my heart some good. Now it’s Norris’ turn tomorrow!! We’re takin’ 2 of 3 from the Indians!! Kinsler undoubtedly the Tigers MVP this year. What an incredible blessing to call him a Tiger! Where does the Fielder/Kinsler trade rate in Tiger trade history?

Much needed win heading into Cleveland . Kinsler once again comes thru . Not going to complain after they get the win . This team can come back it will just take time . Good outing for Pelfrey today .

Too many good things today to list here, but my favorite was Kinsler going all Cool Papa Bell in the 8th.

Great come-from-behind win. Bad luck Pelfrey. Allows only 1 run and can’t get the win. He must be the most poorly supported SP on the team. Got to start winning against the Indians but their SP tomorrow will be tough.

Starting on May 15, the Tigers have gone 29-17. That’s .630 ball (102 win pace) over 46 games and seven full weeks. Enjoy the success, everybody.

Ever since Maybin, Moya , (epecially Maybin)joined the team, The Tigers got the spark it needed……every team needs that spark…and everyone seems to join
in. Let’s hope it continues…..Can’t blame Ausmus if guys don’t contribute…although
I haven’t been a fan of his in the past..Pelfrey pitched well and hope the team starts
giving him some run support…..keep an eye on Minnesota…they’re getting their
act together.

After a 17-1 shellacking Cleveland’s pen may be a little tired. Need to get to SP and then into their pen. Toronto has helped the cause. Kinsler is the MVP, Maybin is the spark, and both of them are a positive influence on a maturing Iglesias, who has quietly been a key in the revenant Tigers. At the end of the game the camera caught Ian affectionately patting Jose on the head, showing his appreciation and respect for Jose’s unselfish focused play. That stuff is priceless leadership. MaCann, Iglesias, Kinsler, and Maybin are strong up the middle. There is depth this year that was missing in the past. They’ve been able to play through the injuries and pitching problems. And then of course there’s the gifted wildcard Fulmer, without whose contribution, they’d be at .500. One win in Cleveland is an absolute must. Two wins would be fantastic. Three? Yikes!

Good sumation Marty . The tribe might be able to go down to the Tigers . Maybin has been gold so far let’s hope he keeps it up . Kinsler well let’s say where would the Tigers be without him ?
I sure never thought they would take all four in St. Pete .

Checking in late. Another 4 game sweep in the last two weeks. Great job on the road even if it was Tampa Bay. team playing much better as a cohesive unit. Starting pitchers are finally becoming more dependable, The Bulls in the Pen have really jelled together, and there’s enough timely hitting in close games. Sounds like a formula for success. It is a must to take 2 from Cleveland:
1. Had crow for supper; Really liked Mike’s effort on the mound; in perspective, it was Tampa Bay.
2. Kinsler the hitter, the fielder, and the Base runner; he absolutely did it all.
3. The move to pinch run Victor for Cam; noted already that Victor’s hustle was a big important part of the win
Kudos to Nick for the big hit in the 8th., Ian, Mike, J-UP. for the big twobie, and RonGreRyan for great BP work.

Got called into work unexpectedly right before the game started. Watching the midnight replay and the bases are loaded, 1st inning. After reading comments, already know the outcome but can watch with ease knowing we won.

I hate to put it this way, but Cleveland will be without their biggest weapon this week: Verlander.
At any rate, they’ve won their 14 in a row and we’re only 5.5 back with half a season to play. And as Woody mentioned a few days ago, the Toronto series is just as big because of wild card.

A feature , not a bug:
“It’s not just the Tigers. Other teams are stretching their bullpens, either with an eighth reliever or by shuttling relievers to and from the Minor Leagues to keep a fresh arm for the last spot.”
I thought it was about Lowe and Sánchez, too much money to eat. Pelfrey was expected, when signed, to be moved to the BP in 2017 .
There is a reason to carry Aviles

The quote is from Beck at MLB.com

Thanks El Tigre. Can you explain the last line saying there IS a reason to “carry Aviles?” I’m not writing as an Aviles hater as there seems to be many with fire coming out of their ojos but rather just asking the question about why what was written validates a roster spot for Aviles when we have Romine as our super utility guy and a seemingly better bench spot would be a fourth outfielder not two, redundant utility guys. Just curious.

Also, El Tigre, what can you tell us about the 5 Venezuelan’s that the Tiger’s reported signing today:

Francarlos Dacosta (RP)
Luis Perez (LP)
Eliezer Alfonzo (C)
Esney Chacon (OF)
Jhon Sandoval (OF)

Aviles, because they need more than one player able to play both IF and OF with a short bench. That way they have “4 ” not 3 bench players
Last week, Moya had a sore knee. The bench was reduced to two. One the catcher, the other one must be able to play both IF and OF: injuries, ejections.
2 utilities allow them to rest the a player without being forced to interrupt the rest day.
Not to mention the OF in AAA are not making a case to recall them
Aviles will be a FA. They will call up Jones or hire someone like Aviles.

About the prospects, there is more information in the USA than here. I have hear some chat from scouts and trainers about the prospects but not those signed by the Tigers.

Great, thanks! I thought you perhaps had some inside knowledge of some of the prospects. Que Dios te bendiga.

Aviles is actually doing a pretty good job. With JD’s injury, Mike is in the starting lineup more than expected but I think they’re getting what they paid for from him.
On another note, both Joba and Gorzo were DFA’d today by Cleveland.

And Zimmerman now on the DL!!

And they called Mollecken.

Never heard of Mollecken. If rained out, it could change the rotation.

He was with the team two weeks ago and did not throw a pitch. 31 YO journeyman. Expects to make his MLB debut

Now would be a good time to bump Greene back into the rotation.

The radar shows rain is just about over.

Let’s get it in!!
