Friday’s lineups: Tigers at Rays

Mike Aviles returns to the lineup in right field against lefty Drew Smyly, as does James McCann — he of the two home runs off his former college teammate — at catcher. On the Rays side, former infield prospect Nick Franklin gets the Aviles-type role, starting in left field with Desmond Jennings out.

I hope this isn’t just a temporary performance because I am extremely happy with Maybin.

God is that place (Tropicana field) ugly I mean how many colors are going on in that place?

I drove past the Trop in 1995, three years before the Rays existed, and it looked like a melting birthday cake. Hey, why not see if Charlotte NC would like a team?

Charlotte, NC? Maybe, if they ever get their restroom situation straightened out.

Good point.

Fun baseball viewing the past (part of) two nights. Fulmer has been scary good so far. Mark Lowe did throw some good pitches in the 9th. One can hope.
My home view of the fireworks in town was blocked by my own trees, so I had to settle for the Detroit hitters’ fireworks.

1. M&M Boys(Maybin and Martinez continue to get er done.
2. Never looked back; good add on innngs.
3. Michael Fulmer is really good.
Kudos: Cam, Victor, Casty, and JMac. Fulmer gave us seven magnificent innings.
Mark Lowe and Big Mike are stlll grinding through. It would be so nice to get some goodresults from Lowe. It looks like Victor is going to have another one of those big years at the plate. He is such an interesting guy to watch at the plate, and then interacting with his team mates. Hopefully JV is back on tomorrow so we can guarantee the series anyway. I also believe that Miggy will have another breakout in the second half of the season. In the end, he will be vying for another batting title.
If I were him, I would skip the all star game and try to reinvigorate himself for the remainder of the season. Finally, when does the Tribe cool off? It’s tough to gain any ground when the top dog wins 14 straight.

Some great baseball going on. Maybin sure does add some spark. So Cleveland wins 14 in a row. Wow! Andrew Miller has 7 saves, has pitched 34 innings and has 64 strike outs. Ortiz is batting .342 and just hit his 522nd home run. Let’s see a Tiger added to this. How about Fulmer with a 20 win season? Go Tigers!

.324 .369 .543 .912 16 HR 49 RBI It sounds good enough to me

Austin Drake:
ELIAS: Fulmer is first rookie since Christy Mathewson in 1901 to allow 1 or fewer ER in each of a 8-start stretch

Tigers? 21rst 71.8% MLB Avg 73%

Tribe 77.1% first in MLB

Did I say I really liked Cameron Maybin a while back? Oh yeah, I did. What an excellent approach to hitting. He is the teams’ spark in that 2 hole. And with all the sluggers on this team, all he needs to do is get on base……..and he clearly understands that. We’ve needed a player like him for a long, long……long time. Kudos to Jose as well. Keep the line moving. Cleveland has got to come back at some point. Tigers can start that process next week. I looked into tickets for the 4th. Standing room only. By comparison, the Trop had plenty of available sleeping room last night.

If we can just get Miggy hitting southpaws again!!
We really need to see some of the old JV today.
I am astounded with the way VMart has hit the ball this year.
Yes Lowe did throw better yesterday. But without 97 he will not become what we need him to.
Ian has lost some of his offensive magic. Hope he gets it back sooner rather than later.
Still say they can improve this team with getting rid of Upton. It would take some clever GM manoeuvring.
Who would have thought the season starting back end of the rotation (Greene, Sanchez and Pelfrey) would have a grand total of 8 wins on July 1st?
Nice to see James getting some cheap hits!
Anyone notice Miggy grimacing after having James gunning out Dickerson in the 5th?
How do we keep this team playing good ball even when they lose?
