Friday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Indians

Victor Martinez and Cameron Maybin return to the Tigers lineup, as expected, for tonight’s series opener against Cleveland. Ausmus noted that Martinez will still need a day off now and then to watch his knee, which could create more situations like Thursday. They could use a corner infielder like Casey McGehee in that situation, but Ausmus said they’re sticking with the extra pitcher “for the immediate future” while they sort their bullpen out.

Andrew Romine, 5-for-9 with a home run off Danny Salazar, gets a second straight start, this time giving Jose Iglesias a night off at shortstop. The Indians, meanwhile, give Yan Gomes a day out from behind the plate. Rajai Davis starts in center.

Miggy ruined that rally…….called it before it happened. You don’t get many chances against good pitchers and they (he) blew it.

Yep they don’t waste their opportunity……

Ugh….pitiful…wasted opportunities…then Zimmerman explodes

Snake bitten again. Playing the Tribe is becoming one big joke

Clown show.

Looks like the $8M Man has replaced the $18M HR Derby specialist in the BP.

Whoa! Pelfrey has gotta charge that ball.

Mowery: 7of 9 hits were with 2 strikes

I’m the the fan that’s going to be turning this off …..wasting my time to tonight. Has to be something better on than this. Just when you start to get good feelings about this team they embarrass themselves.

This was probably their best chance to win this weekend

Lets’ face it folks…doesn’t anyone on this team do their homework? How about our catcher…doesn’t he study the opposing batters?…The same guys are hitting like its
batting practice….Miggy is screwing this offense up…like someone above said…
he kills many rallies….strange enough his batting average is about the same…
his hits don’t mean anything anymore….enough!

Muggy now under .300; constantly leaves runners on base lately. He and Victor should have taken at least one pitch; killed the momentum IfvPelfry holds them here, we might have a 10 percent chance to pull it out.

How strange. Zimm can’t get through 4 innings and Pelfrey shuts them out for 4 innings but it’s Pelfrey who is out as a starter. Every time Miggy comes to bat there is or are runners on base and he strands them all.

I’ve been saying that all year about Miggy….he’s not clutch he is a rally killer and frankly I assume he’s going to fail in thone situations. I love him but he hurting this team. We used to say he could hit the other teams best pitchers that is no longer the case.

The Tigers coaching staff needs to be working with Miggy . It has gotten so I cringe with him up and RISP.

Althought better hit (although I always thought it was going to be a fly out) Miggy manages to hit himself into the 3rd double play of the game.

Sure did. They threw it to first base. Did Miguel not run to the base or what?

All I can say is: They have to beat the teams in their division. If they can’t do that, then they’re toast.

He did hit the cover off the ball, and Rags made a pretty special catch. GK is correct at least thus far this season; our rallies are started by the guys on the bottom and are snuffed out by Miggy on many occasions. 2-15 against Seattle, and we won all four.
Very frustrating to hear Mario get pumped with Miggy at the plate. He left 7 on tonight.
get just three and you have a tie game. We got nothing from 3-4-5 tonight on offense. Can’t score 7 runs with production like that. As I said during the game, this Cleveland thing is getting a little absurd. ON paper, we have a much better offense; on the field, they’re kickin our behinds:
1. The 10 AB appeararance by Romine; and scoring after striking out; much less talent than the big guys, but seems to make a contribution every game.
2. I’m Big Mike’s biggest critic, but I salute him tonight for providing every opportunity to come back with 6 hitting innings left.
3. Lowe has a perfect inning for the first time in a long time.
Kudos to Maybon, McCann, Kinsler, and Pelfry. Something dramatic has to happen; if Cleveland sweeps, we are dead meat. In closing, CB is a disgrace to MLB officiating; just my opinion; is, and always has been.

Miguel has stranded 19 runners on base through last 5 games ( 12 of those last 2 days) while driving in 3

In truth, the Tigers have only 3 legitimate Starters in JV, JZ and Fulmer when they are on and/or available. When not, the rotation goes from mediocre to barely marginal in a heartbeat based on prayers. I am absolutely certain the Tigers can deal both the $8M Man and the $18M HR Derby Specialist for some MiLB talent(s). I also think Upton could still get at LEAST a #3 Starter given his track record and recent offensive spike. But I’m also pretty sure the Tigers would have to pick up some salary. And I know some folks think BPs are all the rage, but ours doesn’t have much quality. To win now, the Tigers need another 1 or 2 Starters like JV and JZ who can bulldog. Another bulldog like Leake would be a plus in a deal for Upton. Moya can do what Upton has produced thus far. Not much of an immediate loss there if Upton is traded. And Moya’s salary and controlability offsets other possible financial losses there and in other potential deals. Acquired MiLB talent for Sanchez and Pelfrey could even conceivably bolster trade efforts for another legitimate acquisition in the rotation or in the BP. In the process, other top Tigers prospects would not have to be sacrificed and might even come to fruition this season.

Not to give up on this season, and I don’t think we are close to getting the returns that we got from the 3 last year. But, I like the idea of moving Pelfrey, Sanchez, and Upton. for MiLB talent. But, I’d rather see us sell on those 3 than to buy. I just don’t see us consistent or hungry enough to beat Cleveland this year.
.
I’d like to see Greene in the rotation again if he can handle it health wise. Maybe, Norris can find something in the next few starts to fit in to.
.
I think Maybin has done a nice job in the 2 spot, but I’d like to see Miggy move up to the 2 the spot, Vmart at 3, JD at 4 when he gets back. Casty 5, J UP/Moya at 6, Mccann/Salty at 7, Iggy at 8, Maybin at 9.

What I’m seeing is one team, Cleveland, getting all the good baseball fortune so far. The Tigers had it when they dominated the series.
I also saw what would have been a super-clutch and highly dramatic game tying homer in the 9th taken away by our own ballpark (again). That fence should have been moved in years ago after they acquired all these up the middle sluggers.
I wouldn’t go tearing up the current team just yet. As people are learning world-wide, some decisions can’t be undone.

Toledo Blade:
“I think Joe Jimenez has a chance to be a good major league pitcher,” Ausmus said before Friday’s series opener against the Indians. ”He certainly has a plus fastball. But it takes a really special fastball to pitch with just one pitch at the major league level, even as a reliever. Very few guys can do it. He’s still developing. Just to rush him because he’s had a good three months and stunt his development would be a bad decision.”

This is why I struggle to keep up this blog: It does nothing for what I write on the site.

Sorry, I usually, I read your notes at MLB.com. But I got that on twitter first
