Saturday’s lineups: Tigers at Royals

Cameron Maybin returns to the Tigers lineup after missing the first two games of the series to deal with left quad tightness. Victor Martinez remains in the lineup at DH after it looked like his knee might have buckled out of the box in the sixth inning (Ausmus said he simply slipped). Casey McGehee, promoted this afternoon from Triple-A Toledo, is available off the bench, restoring Detroit’s bench depth to four players.

We complain about Pelfrey but Shields has been a disaster for the WSox. 8 runs given up in less than 2 innings.

So, what is worse? A hurricane or a tornado?

Someone earlier brought up the CF question with Maybin down. The Tigers had a 24 YO kid last year who covered and threw well, hit .265 against RHPs in 412 ABs and stole 23 bases.

There was out at third base

Great play by Castellanos, not

Why was Boyd allowed to pitch anyway….terrible….this game is over…
It seems KC is playing with the Tigers…literally.

Another game down the drain . Maybe the chance to win tomorrow .

Maybe Romine can finally shut them down?

6,6,5,4,9,0– that is the ERAs of todays pitchers. Good grief we need bullpen help. And need to put Greene in instead of Boyd. And need to do something about Pelfrey.

Yup, that’s about it. BP sucks, can’t do much more that .500 ball even with this lineup.

What a total disgrace! I am so tired of the roller coaster ride. The Blogging Team could do no worse, and I was a has been high school pitcher. When your pen gives up more runs than the starter, and the 8th. inning guy on the mound is not a pitcher, you know it has been a miserable evening for our guys. Face it: we cannot beat KC or Cleveland.Start calling in the farm because right now we are overpaying our players big time. I’ve yet to understand why this team cannot assemble a decent bull pen.
Boyd is toast; bring on the next sacrificial lamb(Norris). I know a lot of folks are high on Moya; not sold yet. IMO, he’s an amazing AAA player. I hope he proves me wrong.
1. Took an early; pulled the dagger out too quickly.
2. Upton homers in two straight. Maybe the uptick is finally transpiring.
3. The new Pitcher Romine was the only one of 6 pitchers to not be charged with a run.
I was hoping for a split here, but don’t see it happening. The life was sucked out of our Tigers tonight.

A win tomorrow would mean a split in KC where they are 25-8 or something, and also a 5-5 road trip; both good accomplishments.
I would now list all the issues facing the club but there are too many to remember.

Pleasent enough with Lowe

Hardy and Boyd optioned. Ryan and Rondon should be the called up.

Upton is close to 300/850 over lasr two weeks. He is coming around

Consecutive losses by 10-3 and 16-5. Those are football scores.

I wonder what is going on with Gose in Toledo. He has been absolutely horrible with the bat. If they are re-working his swing to take advantage of his speed and cut down on SOs, that would be one thing. It takes time for new muscle memory to kick in and things often get worse before they get better. If that’s not the case, he may need a change of scenery.

Mercifully I was at a family wedding and was subjected to that….
.
Lowe is a freaking disaster..wonder how much rope he has left.

Mercifully, I took my grandson to a local minor league game. Good pitching, fielding, hitting and a good closer. We won. Should have left it at that and never turned the game on when we got home.

Since failure seems to be the most recent theme on this blog, I checked out Sanchez on FanGraphs. He was pretty good in 2013. Since then, he is down 2 miles on his average fastball and his K rate has declined. Maybe it is time to move him?

Kathy, which game? I work in kzoo now and want to go see the growlers.

The Bombers.

Upton last 21 games:
259.326.481.807
Career: 269 .349 .468 .816

Having not seen Gose play in Toledo and going only by his numbers, he may have fallen into the “poor poor pitiful me” (Warren Zevon) syndrome. I understand that is quite common in AAA clubhouses. That’s unfortunate because there have been a number of opportunities for him to be recalled to the big club. The pre-Upton outfield alignment was to include both Gose and Maybin after all.

Happy thought of the day: the Tigers have never done well against Chris Young.
