Saturday’s lineups: Tigers vs. White Sox

Miguel Cabrera is in the starting lineup at first base after leaving last night’s game with tightness in his lower back. Justin Upton gets the day off, shifting Mike Aviles to left field for the matchup with Chris Sale. That leaves Cameron Maybin in the second spot and J.D. Martinez fifth, with Nick Castellanos returning to the lineup in the sixth spot. For what it’s worth, Ausmus said he hasn’t decided yet whether to keep Maybin in the second spot once the cycle of days off ends and the Tigers lineup returns to full strength.

The White Sox called up outfielder Jason Coats from Triple-A Charlotte, where he was batting .335 with seven home runs. He goes straight into the starting lineup against Mike Pelfrey.

CWS got James Shields. They want to win now

A rubber 3B arm cant be improved but can be used better

and there was no need to throw anyway

Ugh. Sale is in his groove now. They may have lost their best chance against him in the first inning.

Okayyyyy! JD hit one out. Now which pitchers are going to be able to save Pelfrey’s first win?

23-14 when they hit a HR 3-14 when not

That is why JL did not move his batter from their usual position. JD is hitting again once back where he is used to do it

Mike has actually pitched well enough to win last several games but either didn’t get run support or bad pen or errors.

ugh, i dont understand some of these staffing decisions.
buck farmer is not the one that has to work on some of his pitches, unfortunately right now it’s lowe. yet farmer is the one back in toledo.
and i don’t understand why shane is in the bullpen. what a waste of resources to use him for only one inning.
sorry. just a little baffled.
i do however really like maybin in 2 spot & jd back in 5. hopefully it’s a no brainer to keep it that way.
go tigers!

and just to clarify since i sounded way to negative (sorry again!), i’m thrilled pelfry had a good game and got that statistical W. i just sort of thought that after we lost sanchez as a starter, anibal’s slot would have been the one for greene to return to.
alas, i’m sure it’ll all work out.
boy, the bats are really swinging lately.
…..and tomorrow the sweep! yay!

Well played game and have taken the series.
I like the lineup that way; it has a nice flow. Keep it.

This win was absolutely great. Beating Sale and the WSox. This will shut up the Sox fans around here for awhile. JD is hot. I can hardly believe how much Maybin has helped. Even the 8-9 hitters helped out. They did it with no help from the designated MVP Kinsler. Is it possible for a sweep? JV will have to bring his best game. Quintana is tough but has bad luck.

Nice to beat the White Sox at home . Maybe there is hope for this Tigers team. Clean sweep tomorrow !!! Glad Maybin has worked out …..

A little late checking in, but glad to see Big Mike gain a W. He pitched very well today, as SP’s continue their string of better performances on the mound. What a pleasure for our team to stick it to Sale; have never cared for him much; great pitcher, with too much of a chip on his shoulder(just my opinion). The team had some really good AB’s against him and made him work harder than usual. Agree with an earlier post; it just seems that Julio is much more comfortable in the 5. Leave Maybin at 2, and drop Beej down to 7. Maybe it helps get him going. Victor, the ageless wonder, keeps rakin’ the ball. Good to see positives from the bottom today also:
1. Shane and Justin threw mighty well in the 7th. and 8th. No comment on Lowe.
2. Base running was a big plus today.
3. The guys never let Sale take command of the game; they kept their cool, and prevailed in the late innings.
Kudos to Julio, Victor,Big Mike, and Cam. Quintana will most likely be our toughest opponent. If JV can continue his recent magic, we might pull a sweep. Another really nice win for our team today.

Agree about JD. He is starting to show signs of becoming awesome again. Maybin at #2 seems to be working.
Casty has fallen into the trap of becoming enamored with himself. Came off the field giving James advice before his AB.
Needs to get humble again before baseball does it for him.
Why not leave Green in for the 8th?
Pelfrey did OK but I still maintain his stuff really translates to a bullpen role if they end up (and I know this is not possible) with too many starters.

The second in season traded brings hope to the Tigers, If Shields was traded, 57 MM owed, Aníbal could be traded to. SD will pay 29 MM

Cafardo has Sánchez as one of the few starters that could be in the market. And he keeps making the case for Upton

Anthony Gose is hitting .194 at Toledo? What’s the story with that?

Pelfrey is the 55th highest paid pitcher in MLB, higher paid than Keuchel, Cashner, Richards, Hill, Quintana ,Miller and Cole, among many others. He rewarded the Tigers with his first win since last August.

That would be a list of 193 starting pitchers.

Comparing Pelfry’s free agent contract with a bunch of never been free agents is a bit skewed.

I tried not to skew the results so I filtered staring pitchers by “veteran” status on spotrac. If you can do better I’d be interested in the results.
