Memorial Day lineups: Tigers at Angels

Andrew Romine, born and raised in SoCal and a homeowner down the road, gets the start at shortstop tonight. Other than that, it’s a regular lineup for the Tigers tonight behind Justin Verlander against Jhoulys Chacin, who has never faced Detroit but has a history against several of its hitters.

The impossible Texas put a 9 spot on Tomlin of the Indians…..tiger’s make him look like Cy Young

Ugh……look pretty bad so far but at least we won’t get no hit

Before an injury, Chacin put a 3.78 ERA for Colorado. That is not an easy task.

He knows his BP is useless with runners on

Ryan is the best option there

This team really needs a couple of guys that can strike people out in the BP.

Until they get the pen fixed this club will have problems. The 8 th inning. Seems to go on forever .

Gibson sounds like the friendly undertaker….the team must take after his announcing…..poor Verlander… another wasted effort woith no offensive support.

This lineup cannot hit above average pitching. Another royal embarrassment. Looks to me like Wally Joyner’s hide needs to be on the stake. Julio is so frustrating right now; strikeouts and ground outs, then a token hit; Miggy is MIA again. Casty is leveling off, which we knew would happen; J-UP still looking for the hot streak; Mc Cann is lost at the plate. That leaves Kinsler and Victor who are at least somewhat consistent.
And I’ve never seen a pen that can’t pitch out of a jam, except ours. Oh, and Cam is going to hit .260 if he’s lucky. JV can still pitch effectively. I doubt we win any of the three based on what’s happening next; actually Fullmer might get us a W. Anabal gives me no hope for tomorrow. Am I sour? You bet I am. Still there were Three things that I liked about the game:
1. JV walked no one.
2. Romine had a good AB to break up the perfect game/no hitter.
3. Romine’s Dad got to see him play tonight.
That’s about it, except JV is really pitching well.
Do miracles happen to people named Anabal?

I agree with all your assessments…….the hitters most importantly MIggy is MIA he’s really except for a week or so been practically as big of a dead spot as Upton or McCann
.
Your right this team is not a good hitting team…..And Chacin has not been that good this year so I guess. Actually had a higher Era than Pelfry going into the game.

So wrong, Cabrera 1.7 WAR . 31 RBI. Cant have more if nobofy goes on bases
8th in OPS .
One bad game and he us compared with that nulity that plays C

Miggy has 1 hit on this road trip! If thats not missing in action nothing is.

Once again, it is confirmed.W is a useless stat to evaluate pitchers. Verlander is having a better season than Scherzer. They kept the right one

Farmer and Saupold, two consecutive bad calls. Time to put another show at home. He is bad even for that but he ignited the tezm, or so we were told

I found it very disturbing getting beat by what looked like a ST lineup by the Angels. Their ACE, Richards, as well as Wilson, Simmons, Soto and Nava are all on the DL. And their 3B did not even start. Then throw in that Chacin is their #5 Starter and he totally dominated our hitters.

The team always seems to return to zero. Fans can’t expect a good product every night. It is clear that the whole offense will eventually vanish and become anemic for stretches that forecast doom. The pen is totally unreliable and the only syncopation on the team is between those two facets of the game.
It is sad to see but we are looking at a beaten bunch and a team that may soon find itself out of contention for good this season.

It appears that the AL Central race is devolving into what many pundits predicted: a dogfight among teams barely over .500, with the eventual champion reaching anywhere between 83 to 85 wins. If that becomes the case, all of the fanbases will be constantly frustrated.
Divisional games must be won. At this point, the Tigers need to win one damn game in Anaheim, get the hell away from there and put it in the rear view mirror.

At times the tigers look like a sandlot team .Both offense and defense look crappy like they have given up. Things have to change and soon .

When does the Tigers GM made the BIG change?
1st batting coach W. Joyner GOES!

Batting is not problem….clutch hitting is….also base running..two slow base runners up front in the line up…and use of relievers….they’re not fooling anyone…the whole team needs a strategy….Gose, adds some class in the outfield, Maybin is scary out there.
Upton is not doing the job…send him down and rebuild w/Moya…

Tigers 4 players above 300. 3 top 10.
3 players top 10 in OPS
Tigers 3rd in collective average. 4th in OPS
5th runs. 6th RBI
4.42 R/g 6th
4th wOBA
Upton, McCann/Saltalamacchia, Iglesias , JD are killing the offense .
I would move Maybin to 9th. Maybe, he will be on base for Kinsler and Miguel .Once Maybin numbers normalize he will ne a higher treat than Iglesias.
José is just was we know from day one, his improved defense is worth it

Just tossing out thoughts here, knowing that none of them would actually work. I liked Maybin in the 7-hole because they could try some small ball with McCann and Iggy. That hasn’t been done at all. If Cam doesn’t hit 7th, who does?
Can’t demote Upton and probably can’t trade him yet, so hit him 9th. This is a guy who failed hitting in front of Miggy. What do you do with people like that, other than limit his ABs?
Now, the real issue when the lineup fails is that all these hitters with good track records try to do too much because they’ve always been expected to. Rather than keep the line moving, they try to top off the rally with the big blow. The only guy who has been able to slow down the game is Victor. Even Miggy falls into pressing quite often.
