Friday’s lineups: Tigers at Athletics

Justin Upton returns to the Tigers lineup after missing the Phillies series. Ian Kinsler returns after missing the last couple games. Cameron Maybin returns to the seventh spot in the order, with Kinsler and J.D. Martinez batting first and second.

The Tigers don’t have any at-bats against Sean Manaea, whom they missed by a couple days before the A’s called him up for his debut. Likewise, Oakland hasn’t seen Michael Fulmer for the same circumstances.

(Note: I’m off this series. I’ll pick up the beat again on Memorial Day in Anaheim.)

Oh no Manaea is a lefty

I guess…..this guy with his 7+ era. Too much for the Tigers hitters so far.

1. And there’s Michael Fullmer.
2. Solid defense shows up again.
3. Never looked back.
Kudos to Nick, Ian, and Fullmer. Back over .500

Nice outing for Fulmer . Good to start the road trip with a win. Gotta keep it up. !!!

Moya was optioned to make room for Boyd.

When it rains it pours for the Royals!! Looks like now they lost Salvador Perez!!

The bats going to wake up today? Looking for lifeless so far after 4 innings. I hope the third time through the order is a charm for the Tigers. Boyd looking good other than the two solo HR’s. Seven K’s after just 4 innings.

Saupold , tie game? why?

Pelfrey pitching tomorrow. See how that works?

“You don’t save a pitcher for tomorrow. Tomorrow it may rain”

I understand leaving him there once the game opened. He needs the BP rested since they are on the road and it is not easy to add a new pitcher . But not taking him in

putting him in

7 of 12 IR scored for Wilson

6 for 11. It was Ryan who allowed the IR

Looks like this game is lost. Mostly on Saupold and A Wilson.

Boyd pitched a decent game.
1. The foul catch by Salty showed a lot of grit.
2. Kinsler continues to be a hitting machine.
3. Came back in the sixth to tie at 3-3. Can you believe the final score?
Kudos to Boyd and V-Mart. Julio is worthless again right now. Cam is finally coming off his phenomenal start. Miggy seemed a little out of it today. The Pen is still the problem with this team. Don’t know that it would have mattered, but I would have come in first with Farmer. Alex is lost right now. Again, I don’t expect to win every game, but one gets tired of being humiliated. Big Mike is up for win # 1 tomorrow. Maybe the big park will help. Today needs to be erased from Tiger fans pronto!

Well I also thought the 6 th inning would be the turning point . Tied up at 3-3 and a chance to go ahead . Gotta work on the pen and soon .

For multiple time zone travel, I’ve heard that it’s the second day that gets you, not the first. The Tigers definitely looked jet lagged today. That and the A’s low levels of execution was contagious.
I went on MLB.TV and watched the entire Royals 9th inning comeback today. It started at 7-1 Sox and their closer Robertson “getting in some work.” We know how that goes. Pretty incredible.

Cafardo: “I asked Ausmus what he thought the reason was for Upton’s poor start. He said, “There are no hard theories. He got off to a really bad start and is pressing a little now. Great guy. He’s working hard and keeping a great attitude.”
“Ausmus didn’t think Upton’s start had anything to do with moving to a new league”

McMann:
“Tigers manager Brad Ausmus dismissed any notion of fatigue for Wilson, who suffered from arm fatigue at the end of last season and shoulder soreness in spring training” Of course he dismissed it , arm fatigue was Ausmus´s fault. Kept throwing him there day after day to save his job
