Saturday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Rays

Drew Smyly isn’t the only ex-Tiger facing the Detroiters today. Curt Casali, the former Tigers catching prospect traded to Tampa Bay in the Kyle Lobstein trade a few years ago, makes his first-ever appearance at Comerica Park. It’s not his first appearance against the Tigers, of course. He had back-to-back two-homer games against them at Tropicana Field last July.

backup Cs have had some memorable games against Tiger pitching. Bobby Wilson earlier this season. Taylor Teagarden a few years back.

This is a tough matchup for Detroit today.

Did Maybin have a brain cramp? He was NOT in position to throw and the ball was not hit that deep.

Maybin is radioactive he is so hot. The HR is his first XBH.

Fulmer is really dealing through four!! Love to see him keep this up for another three innings of shut-out baseball to take us into the 8th. Given current pitch count definitely possible!!

Just when is Upton supposed to start hitting? We are 1/4 of the way through the season.

Shame the guys can’t score.
Fullmer is likely to walk away pretty disappointed today.

Wow. Fullmer was absolutely tremendous.
Gotta find a way to win this one for him as well as the team.

Got my wish with Fulmer going 7 full innings but not the shut out after 7. Beautiful job of pitching today and for all the talk about his change-up not being ready to get out MLB pitchers, he sure has it working today especially in the 6th and 7th. Also hit 97 of the gun yet in the 7th. What a great boost his performance has been but can our offense get the W? Please oh please come out of this game with the win!!!!

I meant MLB hitters of course, not pitchers

Really …..Wilson is blowing it after good hitting and nice pitching. Some things just never change around here……EVER

Is that Coke in Wilson’s body?

I’d like to say that I can’t believe it….but I can
.
Might be time to get him out of there BRAD

Cheez! I walk away for a few minutes and they nearly blew it. What’s going to win it now? More offense or a K-Rod save?

Fulmer joins Pelfrey and Greene with a Quality Start. JV and JZ of course lead the Tigers with 7 each. K-Rod actually looked pretty good with his Save by pitching backwards in his best style..

It is a win but i really thought they might blow it. I was wrong and Fulmer did not do that bad . Lets get another W tomorrow !!!

Excellent outcome though I really thought the pen would trash the game. It is still a pretty undependable area of the team

I get disappointed when Tiger fans boo a player. Sure Upton has not met expectations, but I really don’t like the negative energy of booing. But, that’s just me.
The win today feels good……repeat tomorrow?

Time to sit Jup. We all know the definition of insanity (Leyland invented it).

Upton needs to at least be platooned in left. Moya has played really good. Aside from the 21 million dollar pay difference I don’t see why this hasn’t already happened.

Fulmer was cooking with gas today. That trade looks better every day. He didn’t even get rattled after the HR. My boy Justin Wilson has regressed from the first month of the season; still think he has a lively arm. Maybin must really love being a Tiger after all these years. And it was exciting for JMac to really step it up today:
1. Frankie settles down to being Frankie; 12 straight in the save column.
2. Julio finally gets the ball out of the infield.
3. Never trailed in the game.
Kudos to Julio, Cam,JMac, and Ian as always. We won the game without anything from 3,4, or 6. It surely would be nice to win the series tomorrow. Bold Prediction:
JUP has a breakout performance, assuming of course he’s in the lineup.

Wonder how long the Tigers can carry Aviles on the roster? He is pretty redundant considering how useful, versatile and dependable Romine is. Romine makes the last play of the game last night look so easy. Calmly waits for the hop behind 3rd base and rifles a perfect throw to 1st. Knows his limitations, knows his job and does it.
Having said that if Aviles had the number of ABs that Upton has had he probably would have better numbers than Jup. 2 HRs? 10 RBIs?

Anybody hear anything further on Victor going down to the ground after an awkward swing yesterday?
I first thought oh no – the knee but figured he rolled over on his ankle. I am surprised he is playing today.

Do you have any video of that? I’d love to find out more details.
