Sunday’s lineups: Tigers at Twins

While Ricky Nolasco has put some bad numbers as a Minnesota Twin, he has put up some decent numbers against the Tigers, with a 2-1 record and 3.58 ERA in five matchups over the last two seasons. His 25 strikeouts over 27 2/3 innings facing the Tigers makes up for some damage. Half of his 12 walks against Detroit have gone to Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez.

Right now, Iglesias is struggling and Gose is trending up.
Still, having the highest OBP of them batting 9th to have him on base for JD seems right

Let’s hope these Tigers hitters get a little run support for Mr. Pelfry

One inning, 31 pitches, 2 runs. They are going to need more than a “little” run support for Mr. Pelfrey. The little run support plus Pelfrey’s performance is a losing situation.

Pretty bad idea by Miguel to try to get to second …..you got a gift and blew it.

I yelled at my TV.

Tied game. Still very doubtful of Pelfrey holding on. Definitely more Tiger runs needed.

Mauer is killing Pelfrey. A crucial point of the game now.

Pelfrey has had it. Where are you, Ausmus? Before the game gets wayyyyyy out of hand.

This game is slipping away. Can Tigers come back against Twins BP? I guess 5 out of 7 every week would be great.

A lot of poor baseball all the way around….poor batting poor pitching. Look at little disinterested today

unbeliveble see this ..stop with disaster pelfrey ,…ausmus want loss ?

shame ausmus go home no in the bulpen

If they lose, 5-2 for the week. Pelfrey lost them both.

The Tigers can’t seem to hit a darn thing when he’s pitching.

I take that back.

I was gone an errand. Wow! Tied game. I guess they can get to the Twins BP. Now what? A few more, please?

The Fabulous Finish Game. Loved it!

Mr. Pelfrey didn’t prove me wrong. I still am in shock over a 2yr./16 M contract with no great track record. Upton continues to climb out of hole, V-Mart is challenging Nick for the Batting lead, and Nick hits a clutch 3 run tater. When it’s goin right, it goes right:
1. Bull Pen absolutely tremendous; Did I tell you how much I like Justin Wilson?
2. Able to come from behind twice on the road.
3. The Aviles tag on sano to end the game. Sano had egg on his face for sure.
Kudos to Salty, and the aforementioned hitters. At least, the Indians won’t get to feast on Big Mike; they might get a taste of Little Mike however. Tigers overcame some sloppy play today to get a big win.

Nice to see another win after last weekend . They again played as a team should.

A great victory! I guess I have to accept a 6-1 week. (Just kidding, lol.) Salty the sailor comes through again. Casty had a very good game at-bat and in the field.I watched that 3rd inning Iggy challenge over and over. It looked like a tie to me. Isn’t a tie supposed to go to the runner?

Absent compelling evidence, the play stands

the call stands

The present rotation doesn’t remind me much of a couple of years ago when we had JV, Max, Sanchez, Fister and Porcello. Two of the names remain the same, but their performances have diminished. And when it comes to the #4 spot, Pelfrey can’t hold a candle to Fister. However, the BP is much better, although I still am not sold on K-Rod. The upshot is the Tigers will have to hit because the pitching will not carry this team.

You know things have changed drastically when, after Nick’s homer, I said “All right, 5-5. Now it’s our bullpen against their bullpen. I’ll take it.”

About the same thing I said to my wife, “now its a battle of bullpens and we’ll win that.”

I thought we had a good week of playing decent baseball. I give kudos to BA for the lineup swap. Nick C really deserves credit I think he’s had good consistent at bats. Pitching hasn’t been dominating but it has been solid to good. This is a fun team to watch when they play like this.

Let’s hope it continues…

Zimmermann , pitcher of the month. Too early but compared to Price…
Victor, player of the week

Over the last 7 in the AL, the Relievers posted a 2.68 ERA, which was 6th best. The Starters had a 3.74 ERA, which was good for 7th.

Good hitting and a decent bullpen can overshadow sketchy starting pitching and baserunning gaffes. They’ll need to be solid in all phases to consistently beat the better teams across the league. The game winning run was a gift from the Twins’ defense.

Price is 4-0 with a 6.14 era. Porcello has 5 wins. I do like our bullpen. Go Tigers!

Zimmerman was deemed a second tier starter. So far he is an Ace ,while Price is third in hard hit allowed %, below ( or above? since his % is lower) Archer and Pelfrey

Jordan Zimmermann has never been a second tier starter. The others in the Nats rotation got all the publicity. This is a steal.

Pelfrey needs to eat innings as he was signed to do and get his ERA down closer to or below his career 4.50 and his WHIP down under his 1.45 career. Looks like the guys need to score at least 6 runs to pull a W out of his starts. It would be a tough contract to swallow if 1 of the youngsters steps up and performs in his place. Otherwise, $8MM/year is a lot for a long relief pitcher.

I see Pelfrey as a placeholder for the youngsters. At some point this season they may be able to rotate about three of them through the rotation so nobody gets overworked.
As many have said, it’s not Pelfrey himself but the contract. I wish he’d put together a few good games, as he seems like a good guy.

Replay is making a joke of the Cubs-Bucs game.

Congrats to Mr. Upton!

Bats on the Pefrey.
Don’t expect anything from MP and you will not be disappointed. It was bad signing from the gitgo.

Will Jiminez get promoted to upper minors this season? I sure hope so

Dan, we sure hope JJ starts his advance through the minors. With a 0.00ERA and 0.67WHIP in 9.0IP he’s close to being ready to joining the Seawolves.

What a difference time has made for our bull pen. Right now I have no qualms with anyone coming in to work the back end of the game. I hope we enjoy this for the full season. And Nick, I just can’t grasp what changed for him but good for him!

looks safe to me

or not. He missed home plate

How was JD out at the plate? Because, in spite of replay, the umpire said so.

Bull

His foot was on the air and did not touch home before the catcher had tagged him

Gose was ordered to play deep. Of course, he is not. Non coachable
