Home opener lineups: Tigers vs. Yankees

Pinch-hitter extraordinaire Victor Martinez gets to start today as the designated hitter. The tradeoff is that he’ll be starting under chilly conditions against hard-throwing Luis Severino, last seen by Tigers fans in a wild Spring Training outing that included a fastball that fractured Cameron Maybin’s wrist. Several Tigers regulars got a look at him that day, but the only one to face him in a regular-season game is Mike Aviles.

ARod missing from the starting Yankee 9

Cessa, the main guy Tigers traded for Justin Wilson, won a spot on the Yankees 25 man

Many of you probably have heard this from me before but Nick is ball shy. The liner from Texieria was just about right at him–all he had to do was take one step to his right. Instead he shied away and then tried his typical jack-knife dive.
Just go to the ball NIck. It’s not that hard to do. Same thing on throws to third- he is brutal at catching the ball.
Since I am complaining, does anybody have an idea of how many homers Upton hits off of high fastballs?
Seems to me all you do is throw high heat and sliders down and away and he is pretty much done.

I guess he has been told the first rule, put your body behind the glove

JW has that cutter to thank for his outs. All of his 4-seamers were balls, except his 1st pitch. He started off with 2 outs on 4 pitches, then went on to throw 15 pitches to get thru there 8th.

Z-Mann goes 7 solid IP’s and gets the “W”!! We will definitely take that deep start when we can get it too. That’s 2 shutouts in 3 games as well. Nick has a solid game at the dish too.

That’s the kind of performance that made Zimmermann my favorite on the Nationals staff.
I’ll say one thing for Ausmus; he brings the team north ready to play every year.

Justin Upton is the most prolific “Streak Hitter” of the last 30 years in the game. We will have to live with the downs, which can be gruesome, but lo, when the ups occur, sit back and enjoy the ride. Another solid team win today. Zimmerman was indeed Mr. cool on the mound. To silence the Yanks anytime is a major achievement:
1. Nick had four solid quality AB’s. Also one fine defensive play, and the not so good play that Dan mentioned. He also showed nice maturity in the post game interview.
2. Clutch hitting by Iggy and Miggy.
3. Lefty relief looks like a strong component of the team.
Kudos to Zim, Nick, and JMac for calling and catching a great game. Finally, the Man in Blue was one of the best callers I’ve seen in a while. KZone revealed him to be correct more than 90 % of the time. Tigers and Tigerets, we just saw another quality win.

big win for pistons and zimmermann is a god pitcher i want see tomorrow pelfrey

Felt good not to be on pins and needles.

Really impressed with Ryan. He is pretty average stuff but has the determination to maximize it and trust it.

Nice to get another win . Sure hope it keeps up . Good pitching and some offense treats the crowd to another happy day.
