Grapefruit League opener lineups: Tigers vs. Pirates

Sorry to not have lineups posted for yesterday’s exhbition, but with the Grapefruit League schedule starting, here they are. Tigers lineup does not include Anthony Gose or Cameron Maybin in center field, but Wynton Bernard instead. Gose isn’t starting against lefty Kyle Lobstein in his return to Lakeland, and Maybin isn’t playing the outfield at this point while recovering from a offseason shoulder injury we didn’t know about. Manager Brad Ausmus said Maybin will likely DH one of the split-squad games tomorrow and is regaining throwing strength in his shoulder, but isn’t ready for outfield play yet.

There is no injury issue for Ian Kinsler, just a day off after he played a couple innings in the field Monday against Florida Southern. Mike Aviles gets the start at second, while Jose Iglesias bats leadoff.

No TV for this game, but you can listen on the radio on AM 1270 back in Detroit or online at MLB Gameday Audio.

Other injury updates …

  • Anibal Sanchez (triceps inflammation) stretched out beyond 90 feet playing catch this morning, and will throw out to 120 feet on Wednesday. Assuming he does so without any issues, he could have a mound session by the end of the week.
  • No test results yet on Montreal Robertson, whose shoulder popped out while working out in the weight room last week, but it doesn’t sound like the Tigers are expecting him back anytime soon. “It’s going to be a while,” Ausmus said.
