Zimmermann to make Tigers debut vs. Nationals
Brad Ausmus announced another trio of starters for next week’s Spring Training games, including Justin Verlander and Jordan Zimmermann. Both, it turns out, will be pitching in familiar surroundings.
After Daniel Norris starts for the Tigers on Thursday against the Braves at Disney’s Wide World of Sports complex, Verlander will face the Yankees Friday afternoon at Joker Marchant Stadium. Then comes Zimmermann, whose Tigers debut will come against his old team, the Washington Nationals, at Space Coast Stadium in Viera.
The early-week starters had already been announced, though Ausmus provided some clarification on Wednesday’s split-squad affair. Mike Pelfrey “more than likely” will pitch against the Yankees at Tampa, according to Ausmus, which would put Buck Farmer on the mound against the Pirates at Bradenton. The Yankees game is on TV locally on Fox Sports Detroit and nationally on MLB Network.
In case you forgot, Kevin Ziomek is scheduled to face Florida Southern on Monday. Matt Boyd will start the Tigers’ Grapefruit League opener against the Pirates on Tuesday at Joker Marchant Stadium.
