Friday’s lineups: Tigers at White Sox

It’s a windy day in Chicago, which could lead to some chaos on fly balls. The Tigers outfield, though, is pretty regular. It’s the infield where the final-series impact is evident. Andrew Romine starts at first base in place of Miguel Cabrera, who will start Saturday, according to manager Brad Ausmus. Josh Wilson starts at second base in Ian Kinsler’s spot. Victor Martinez, meanwhile, still has left quad soreness keeping him out of the lineup. He’s day-to-day, even with two days left in the season, but Ausmus hasn’t ruled him out from playing.

Read Chris McCoskey’s “report card” on the Tigers. Very surprised to see the poor grade he gave Iggy. our own GK was far more reasonable and fair in giving Iggy a B-
I’d go as far as to give him a B.
He exceeded my expectations in coming back from a year off. That in itself i not easy to do expecially for a guy who depends on his legs.
Iggy does have some attitudinal stuff to improve and I would like to see him be a little more willing to leave his feet on hits up the middle. But I still maintain we are very fortunate to have him.
Not sure what we do with Dixon. He seems like a shortstop in waiting but there is too long a wait here. I guess he could play 2nd but Ian has a lock on that for at least one more year–at least.
I will say that I would not be too surprised to see a major deal done that includes Iggy.
It would be risky to entrust the job to Dixon but he can certainly handle the defensive aspect.
It has been a long disappointing season and I will miss all of Beck’s Bloggers. I expect we will all be positive fans again by the time spring training comes around again.
Any Fantasy Campers out there?

Metrics people have considered Iggy a below average defender and he has received lots of negatives as a result. We let A-S Peralta go and now we let Iggy go too? NO WAY!

What we do, is trade Machado. He has more upside than Romine, who has more value as an utility guy. Plus, Machado does not have a spot and his bat remains questionable.

Machado will pick the role of Santiago as backup SS ( as projected) and Romine will remain Kelly 2. They will go again with two backup IF since Iglesias has yet to play a full season in MLB

Lineup is a disgrace. ….. mario…nothing wrong with Miggy just a day off. I guess the 4 months he will get in a couple of days isn’t enough. People still pay a lot of money to see them and this is what they are getting. I understand Vmart but Kinsler and Miggy need time. Again I call bull

Personally, I think the guy is hurting. His leg and back stuff hurts him and then hurts the team. Miggy has not been a guy to back off if he can play.

Frankly, what I am looking for tonight is personal accomplishments. I would love to see JD hammer a couple and Simon get his 14th win.

And given those circs with Sale on the mound and a batting title at stake, I think it’s a no-brainer that Miggy does not play.

Well if he’s backing off because the pitcher is good well shame on him for being a pansy and being more worried about his singles batting title than the poor idiots who paid money to see him.

Gk, do you really think he is backing off? Or that he is backing off becuz the pitcher is good? That’s not Miggy. He has proven himself time and again.

Your the one who said it…..Sale on the mound he took the day off “no brainer” I believe we’re your words.

Do you now work for FOX? I never said what you quoted. Read it again.

You wrote ” Sale on the mound and batting title at stake I think it is a no brainer that Miggy doesn’t play” what do you mean if you don’t think that he is trying to protect his title???? You tell me?

Miggy deserves the batting title.
He would never ask for a day off.
Sale is one of the best lefties in the business
I know the numbers are good today but pleas do not get sucked into keeping Simon another year
It would be real sweet to see JD get 40
What do we do with AlAl? Great guy, but I think he has reached his peak
Shame on the other AA if he doesn’t make a serious effort to get Chapman
McCann hits .280 next year

He deserves it because he qualified. ..but he has 178 less ab’s than Bogarts….

TTBDNS ……HMM shouldn’t there have been a pinch hitter there? Guess there’s no real interest.

Gk…First of all I know you are a Tigers fan, But I never said or inferred Miggy is a “pansy”. What I said is it is a “no-brainer” that with his injuries and with Sales on the mound he should not play with the BA title at stake. I think it would be nuts to do so. I ALSO think Miggy did not make the decision to not play, as you have inferred. That has not been his style to date. Unless you have insider information, I think you have been unfair about this issue and to Miggy.

141 PA. Batters qualify based on PA not AB
Tony Gwynn did not have the PAs and won the tittle in 1996.
Miguel missed 6 weeks due to injury and he rushed back to play
Ausmus pencils the lineup not him
He could go 0-12 and still win. He would go down to 325. Bogaerts would need to go around 4 for 8 the next two games just to tie

If Miggy wanted to play he would have get real he rules the roost.

…and I understand why he has less…plate appearances or AB I don’t begrudge him the title he earned it by the rules. It doesn’t mean he really didn’t have to do as much.

He or Kinsler should have been pinch hitting

Great play by Machado. …mario was less excited about that than the play to end the inning on JD?????

I wonder how many people read these comments.

Those of us who comment, for sure. Jason reads some of them, too.
My feelings for the Tigers are just dead right now. Still in shock they are keeping Ausmus. I can’t wrap my head around that one.

I do. Jason does . Dan does ElT does Gk does. You do. I’m pretty sure others do but many do not comment as frequently for one reason or another. RICH, the upshot is you have driven everyone off. Be prepared to take responsibility if you are Catholic. Pope Francis can help you.

Guess what? Everyone has an opinion. But, it is nearly the end of the season and I am as testy as any out there given the circumstances of the Tigers. So, I am at valuating personal accomplishments at this time.

I am trying to be funny, not offensive. So far, that has not gone well for me.

No I inferred it. But he said he is not injured …they are saying that he’s not injured just scheduled days off? Scheduled when the season is done in 2? But when he first got back from injury he was smacking the crap out of the ball … now his at bats have looked disinterestedand unfocused. ..He’s not hitting the ball with authority and in my opinion and because of something he said is that’s hard to stay focused or as intense when he has nothing to play for. So forgive me for wondering if it has more to do with he’s done with the season. He hit better last year with broken bones but he had something to play for?

I get it I’m sure it’s difficult but he keep going but for the guy buying tickets or those watching at home and if they can’t play the game the right way…like playing theit best lineup or at least pinch hitting for them at the end I think that’s crap. To me IN MY OPINION they including Miguel are cheating their fans. You obviously think not that’s ok. But you did say with a batting titleat stake and sale on the mound it was a no brainer not to play.

The important thing right now is that Seattle beats the A’s tonight.

I have insider info that Miggy’s back does hurt…..due to GK always being on it.

Sorry GK, I had to seize the moment and make a lame attempt at a joke. I respect your right to speak your mind as I do all others on this blog.

I thought your comment was much funnier than mine. I try, but I probably shouldn’t. I certainly agree with your position on opinions..

Or as Silver said to The Lone Ranger, “Get off my back!”

Rich, given the previous dialogue, I have lost contact with the real world. Please tell me what this means! . Are we talking about draft picks?

Yes. If Seattle wins, the Tigers clinch a protected draft pick. Signing free agents comes into play. Since we already lost, I’d love to get this done tonight.

Also, I have raised the issue about corrections for comments. I just changed browsers. Things are better, but I am still having problems. Some folks have less issues with their comments and actually sound intelligent. Any recs ?

You can’t edit a comment once it’s posted. I’m not sure what problems you’re referring to, but I always proof read anything I’m about to send out. Stuff still leaks through, though. Sometimes I feel like I’m not being understood. I don’t know, does this help?

It has been real tough to watch them lose so many . Only 2 more games and we start thinking about 2016. I am already making plans for next seasons visits to Comerica .
I saw them beat up on the Cubs at Wrigley in August . After that they made a real downward spin . It is easy to be a fan of a winning team . When the team is bad not so easy .
I have read every single post on this blog . Each and every one of you care or you would not be posting your feelings .

I’m already planning my spring training trip. That will make nine in a row. Never quit.

I have not been to Lakeland in a few years . Thinking about maybe starting the tradition again…..

First of all, I have always considered myself the least of all the regular bloggers on here. It has been an honor and joy to join all of you in discussing the team that we all love. I actually sit and visualize about what everyone looks like and how their voice would sound. I have personally met Rich on three occasions, all at Camden. He is the Chief of Staff for Beck in my opinion. In my five years here, we have only had a couple of folks who showed outright disrespect and made fools of themselves. I look forward to the next season. I will be posting my year end superlatives next week. In the meantime, there weer three things that I liked about tonight’s game:
1. Simon says: it’s been fun, so I’ll end it on a good outing. Could have easily won.
2. Marte gets two solid knocks, one for the bleachers, and the other for the bench.
3. Continue to see a steady confidence/improvement from Nick at third. Even the barehanded play was a solid pickup; couldn’t get a good grip, and Eaton would have beat it out anyway.
Again, I envy the bloggers and bloggets on this site so much. The majority of you all, I’m sure are Michiganders now, or former residents. I have been to the two stadiums, one time each in all of my 66 years. But the one thing I had from age 10, was WJR, all 50000 watts, piped into Big Stone Gap, Virginia. Ernie Harwell became my best friend every night, with a voice that commanded the airwaves completely. And for the next 56 years, I have been a loyal Tiger Fanatic, knowing that 2016 will be the year of the Tigers.

And every meeting was a pleasure, Greg. Next year, Nats Park, right?
Not so sure about this Chief of Staff thing. The pay is not good.
I do remember that one guy who totally went OFF! Wow. Then there was the time Dan and I teamed up on a Yankees fan before the playoffs. Fun stuff.
I kind of think more people read without commenting than we may think.
p.s. if it’s Big Stone Gap, you probably know half of my kin. 🙂

Well,, Greg. Thank you for your steady and generally positive insight into baseball by the Tigers. There are tougher things to deal with in the world, at home and in our personal lives. But, this “Tigers thing” still seems good.

Rich, Thank you for you response about inputting. I just changed over to the Google browser and I can now see what I am completely typing and there is a correction factor built in. Good for me, maybe not so much for others. What is a major continuing issue is of a grammatical nature, particularly as it relates to punctuation. I literally cannot see how many periods, commas, spaces et al I am leaving until my comment actually hits the post. Then the comments are magnified. Of course, I can not edit mistakes. So then, my idiocy is unfortunately unmasked.

Auto correct is my nemesis on here….but truly Darline I hope nobody is judging you or me on errors because of auto correct or grammer!

Born in Big Stone Gap, lived there 32 years; The Movie “Big Stone Gap” has its national debut, there next Thursday. It stars Ashlwy Judd, Whoopie Goldberg, and Patrick Wilson. Based on the book of the same name, written by Adrianna Trigianni, whose family I grew up with. She was the Co-Producer of “The Cosby Show”(probably not in her new credit list). Who were your kinfolk Rich. I lived there until 1981.

Wouldn’t be proper to name names here, and some of them I don’t know. Big family, spread all over. Some of them got involved in a rather famous feud.

So it appears that both Sanchez and Simon pitched injured most or all of the season. Throw in Greene and Verlander and in the end, Price was the only healthy starter in the rotation.

MVP according to Jayson Stark:
My “ballot”: (1) Donaldson, (2) Trout, (3) Lorenzo Cain, (4) Dallas Keuchel, (5) Manny Machado, (6) Miguel Cabrera, (7) Nelson Cruz, (8) Jose Bautista, (9) David Price, (10) Prince Fielder. (And I easily could have gone 20 deep.)

JD should have been on that list and probably instead of Miggy. If you have to pick a MVT then in my opinion that would be JD.
Not slamming Miggy here at all.

I sure hope that’s the last we have seen of Simon.
Notes to Al Avila:
1) Please vette your player transactions better than your predecessor.
2) Please consider a pitching coach alternative (especially in light of the Simon knee injury revelation)
Anybody notice the condition of the Tiger Logo in Jason’s Heading? Kinda looks like a couple of guys in the middle of our lineup. I like my Tigers a little more streamlined than that!

Now, at least one hit in 8 of his last 10 games

Ya a single. ……last time I checked he’s not paid to be exclusively a singles hitter…..but I’m not going to have this discussion again🙂. He’s been a giant disappointment to me. Sorry but I expect singles out Gose and Romine not him.
