Casty slipping into a funk. He is having major trouble with the breaking ball and slider lately. It has also contaminated his ability to even hit the heater.
It’s next year or nothing as far as I am concerned with his reaching his projected potential. If he doesn’t start raking next year–let him go

Davis not in line-up again…I wonder why?????

The score doesn’t show it but the Sox are pounding Ryan.
Kinsler, Marte and Machado stopped bullets in the 3rd inning.

NJ, RHP on the slab for the Sox. Won’t see much or Rajai with Moya and Collins around to hit against Righties.

Tigers hitters look like they’re just trying to get to game 2……very quick very easy outs.

I don’t see enough in Ryan to justify thinking he can be rotation worthy —at all.

Scouts are at the game looking at the Shark . Sox trying to shed payroll he most likely will be gone next year .

The Shark is a FA but the worst ERA in MLB has everyone wondering if he can be fixed. His FIP is not good either

Looking pretty awesome today or is that just the Tigers hitters?

the latter, as usual

Abreau gonna hit one right here!

Glad I was wrong about that.
Boy, does Gose ever let the ball go deep into the hitting zone. When he starts getting around just a tad earlier he will get a lot of hits to LF.
The kid (Christin Stewart) the Tigers drafted this year is really hitting. Didn’t seem to have a lot of trouble adjusting to pro ball.

The season is over to Iglesias who fails again to play a full season

We are really lucky to be down only by two. Ryan is getting away with very hittable pitching.

Are you kidding me with these at bats against this pitcher? Pretty disappointing. ..again I was going to venture down to this game and this wonderful 1 hit performance makes me extremely glad again I didn’t waste money on this effort.

How many single digit pitch innnings for Shark today?
5 pitches in the 7th. What are these guys thinking? It isn’t working.

5 of the 9 starters were Mudhens to begin the season

Adam Eaton kills the Tigers–he just about did it again.

Ryan is doing what Simon failed to do, preserving the BP eating innings

Really impressed with the number of ground balls VerHagen induces.

Ryan has ZERO to be embarrassed about he is the 1 guy who did their job.

LOSERS …didn’t even give effort…disgusted. just when you think these guys are finally showing some moxy they remind you what they really are

What happened? I sat down for a piano session and when I came back five innings had gone by!
The lineup told the story before the game even began. No point in complaining about this one. Throw away exhibition game.

Like ElT stated, 5 AAA boys in the lineup and Gose. Only Kins, JD & VMart in the lineup with NO strategy at the plate this afternoon. Too bad, Ryan definitely kept them in the game and saved BP arms.

Was thinking the same thing Rich. Don’t leave your seat to get something to eat. What you would expect with the young lineup in their. Good defense, no hitting. The wind knocked down a couple.

Any thoughts on trading fragile Iggy and inserting Machado @ SS next year? Can Machado play 2B? Ian started strong, slumped for 45-60 days and then kicked it in gear after trade deadline. Can they move Ian and get some value back?

1. Marte’s Defense.
2. Only 1 walk in 9 innings.
3. Never out of the game( okay, never in the game either).
Just my Opinion- Predictions:
1. The Shark might be a good option for a 1 or 2 year deal.(would be no worse than Simon and younger).
2. Give Marte a chance at third next year, and put Nick in left field; he could make the adjustment. Not sold on Moya ever being a big league hitter. Has the arm and size, but I just don’t know about the hitting. If we could get Heyward, would be in favor of that move.
3. Collins at best is a fourth outfielder, who might do okay in a platoon situation.
4. Beginning to worry about Igloo and the Tulewitiski syndrome,ie being injury prone.
Machado has the glove; but is the weaker hitter.
5. A major reason for the BP erosion this year is pitching behind in the count much of the time; Al’s slider is dynamite, but his walks this year always had him behind the 8-ball. On top of that, 4 balks tell me his problems have nothing to deal with his arm, but were more mental. Having said that, his days as a Tiger might be very well over.
6. Gose should be a major project for the off season; becoming a bunting specialist, and hitting at least .240 off the lefty pitchers.
7. I think next year will be a career best for Kinsler. We will know by May 1 if Victor and Nick will make 2-6 a solid middle lineup. Victor will have a solid .290, 20 HR, 90 RBI next season.
8. JV wins 18 games and is names comeback player of the year.
9. Michael Fullmer makes the rotation out of spring training.
10. Trammell becomes a surprise pick for Tiger Manager.

Okay Greg! Not only crawled out on that limb but did a little dance on it too. Good man.

I understand the reticence re Moya, but I guarantee you once he unloads one of his trademark bombs fans will start hoping and dreaming in earnest.
I like your points Greg though I don’t personally think Iggy is injury prone. In fact I was quite impressed with his progress on the stress fractures this year. The last injury is something that has nothing to do with conditioning but rather, an accident.
Machado is an interesting option at short and I like the way he is unafraid to give up his body. I don’t think he is likely ready to unseat Iggy and is likely a utility guy next year.
Marte is a better 3B than Casty. I will say Casty has been pretty reliable this year and somethimes quite surprising. My problem with him is his bat. A team can suffer an “ordinary” or average 3rd sacker IF the guy is producing middle of the lineup impact. Therein lies the problem I have with him. There are times that it is quite clear he has no chance at all of hitting certain pitchers (and pitches). Too often it is rally-killing. He needs to pick up the slack in terms of diminishing power from the big guys who are getting older (and slower). We can’t count on JD belting 40 next year. He is one of the KEYS for next year IMHO. I also don’t think the Tigers are willing to convert him once again to another position. If he can ever enhance his hit tool he may be a DH in waiting.
Gose should improve and I like the way he appears to be enjoying playing the game.
All of this means little if the pitching staff isn’t improved by about 100%.
