Sunday’s lineup: Tigers vs. Royals

Day off after two walk-off celebrations for Ian Kinsler. Andrew Romine gets the start at second base and bats second. Victor Martinez starts at first base. The Royals give Alex Gordon (mired in an 0-for-15 slump) and Salvador Perez a day off, and give Alcides Escobar an extra day to recover from his left elbow bruise.

Bench Kinsler? He’s hot. But he is in the line-up. What’sup with that?

Won’t be able to watch today’s game, so, Go Tigers!!!

Seriously, what was the point of calling Moya up? Langushing on the bench is only going to make him more uncomfortable and tentative when he does get the chance to play. We pretty uch know what Collins is capable of. He is a decent and dependable player but he does not need to have all the playing time in September to prove that.
Moya may be the BIG power LHB bat that is so necessary in the Tiger lineup. If they don’t know what is under the hood with him then they won’t know how to approach trades and possib le free agents.

I think they’re giving Collins a good long look so they’ll know their outfield needs for 2016. Moya isn’t close, at least not that close. And he still needs to learn leftfield.

Lineup: Gose 8, Romine 4, Cabrera DH, J. Martinez 9, V. Martinez 3, Castellanos 5, Collins 7, McCann 2, Machado 6. Simon star

what they do in LF next season will be very interesting. it doesn’t seem like they could spend a lot of money in LF if they address rotation and bullpen needs. might decide to go cheap in LF and get a veteran bench RH OF to platoon with Collins…a guy like Jonny Gomes.

They have had a good look at Collins and it is pretty clear what you will get. A really decent 4th outfielder who does most things relatively well.
What we need IS a LFer and with the season in the tank it is time to give MOYA a chance to get his uniform dirty. Spring training could be enough time to evaluate him but to go INTO spring training with some meaningful plate appearances would be extremely good for Steven Moya, if not for the team.
Collins does not need to play every day. Pure and simple.

According to Knennedy, BYB , thete will be o luxury tax in 2017. Hennings thinks they will go over 190.
Double down. We are taking about 45 ,matching opening day payroll ,to 60 MM to spend

Why would you not walk Hosmer?
Romone is nails

I’m happy about a few things with this Tiger team.
-Alfredo Simon is a free agent
-Dombrowski is gone
-Alex Avila is a foregone conclusion
-We will have a new manager next year
-JD has become a legitimate all around ballplayer with tremendous power
-JV has swallowed his pride and adjusted his approach to match his physical abilities
-Drew VerHagen knows how to get ground balls
-Anthony Gose didn’t give up
-Ian Kinsler/Jose Iglesias/Cabby in the infield
-Casty must be close to being the hitter he was predicted to be
-Victor Martinez only has two knees
-Mike Illitch must now be realizing he over interfered with the management of his ball club

Good list Dan you nailed the key points . The last is very obvious if you watch any amount of base ball. How they choose to fix this team will be interesting .

Yost bailed out Simon with the bunt

Simon, boring; inconsistent; character issues; free agent. Add ’em up!
BTW, Romine actually came through in order to have that play at the plate last night.
He is an over achiever and he really seems to make things happen and do the right things when it matters

These is one spot: Machado or Romine. They cant have both in the Majors.Machado has the upside advantage

Back to reality. Simon doesn’t have it today. Is that what you call an understatement? I don’t know Machado’s option standings but I would not dump Romine at this point.

Simon wont be out until 100 pitches. The BP is already over-taxed

Simon is the most boring pitchers to watch…may I ask what does Ausmus need
to sit him down after all those hit and runs? We come back a little… and Simon keeps on adding more runs….Ausmus, please , leave…take Simon with you.
Why doesn’t Davis play more? Ausmus is sucking the life out of him…I’m really pissed at this no thinking thick headed manager…

I thought at 6-3 they might come back the way they have been playing better. Cabrera had a chance to help with 2 runners on. But now Simon has given up 2 more runs. I’m afraid 8-3 may be too steep a hill to climb.

Xtras and tomorrow DH. This game means nothing. Preventing an injury to starters or BP is important.

I would think Machado or Romine will be traded. The pressure will be on Avila NOT to trade a farm system developed guy, so Andrew may find himself elsewhere. Of course there is always the possibility of a huge lineup changing trade that changes everything.
Then again Ausmus started the season with two utility infielders; Romine and Hernan Perez.

Ferrell looks good… or is it that KC hitters are tired …

Wow–Morales is a mosnter.

It just gets better tomorrow eh?
Wolf and Ryan, and of course the bullpen from hell.

If it comes down to trading Machado or Romine, Machado would have more value. He has a chance to be a regular, but is blocked with the Tigers. Romine has pretty much aged into a utility role, and a fairly valuable one at that.

1. Gose gets on base.
2. Machado defense is steady.
3 Held the Royals under 20 hits.
Argh!

I hope we start to see JD pummel again soon. Be nice to see Miggy start going deep too.

JD is a real weapon when he’s hot. I hope to see him hit 40 HRs with 100 RBIs. I’m beginning to think Moya should get the shot in LF next year. He has good speed and can throw. Plus, he wouldn’t be costly, which would leave more bucks for pitching.

The reason I’m now leaning more this way is neither Upton nor Heyward, probably the best FA OFers available to the Tigers, thrills me. Upton is hitting .259 with 26 HRs and 80 RBIs. Heyward has only 12 HRs with 56 RBIs and a BA of .290. Cespedes would be another matter, but he doesn’t look likely to be available. I also kinda wonder about Davis, who can play OF.

Oh but have a look at the throw Heyward made today to nab Rizzo at the plate. I thought fibre optics were fast!
Heyward is my choice, Upton no because he won’t hit anywhere near .290, he is older ( I think) and he is a RHB.
Heyward has a lot of upside and there is a good reason a class act like the Cardinals wanted this guy.

Upton 810 OPS better than any Tiger but Miguel and JD. Heyward: 790 just below Kinsler
We can forget about Cespedes. He went 0 for 19. And that makes him udeserving of the contract he is looking for.His agent said Shin-Soo Choo´s contracts is his benchmark

Heyward vs JD:Heyward has a higher avg, a higher OBP ,a better K% while his BB % is down still a little higher and he is better base runner and a better glove .

The Dark Night trying to match Scherzer for… the Oscar. They really think the fans will buy that they want to remain there.
The Mets forced to surrender a game in the fifth was not a good thing.
Had Fielder , Damon and a couple more remained without a contract, this thing would not be happening

Tigers PR ‏@DetroitTigersPR
Lineup vs. CWS: Gose 8, Kinsler 4, J. Martinez DH, V. Martinez 1B, Collins 7, Marte 5, Moya 9, Holaday 2, Machado 6. Ryan starts

They sound a little panicky in NY. Six game lead with 13 to go is difficult to blow, but the season does end with a 3-gamer against the Nationals. Still, both teams play weak schedules from here on out. If the Mets are thinking they need this thing clinched before that final series, they’re thinking the wrong way.

Scherzer fluctuates between “I’m done” and screaming on the mound that he “WANTS THIS!”

I have a friend who is a Mets fan. He refuses to take anything for granted given how long the team and organization has been so miserable.
