Makeup game lineups: Tigers at Reds

The teams have changed, and so has the weather thankfully. But the ballpark is the same.

Will check later, but presuming a day off for Jose Iglesias with the lefty-favorable matchup in the middle of a long stretch of games. Just days off for Jose Iglesias and Alex Avila today, Brad Ausmus said, not a matter of playing the matchups. Keyvius Sampson is giving up a .324 (12-for-37) average to left-handed hitters this season, compared with .205 (9-for-44) to right-handed batters, though the splits are reversed when including his minor-league numbers (.273 vs. righties, .213 vs. lefties). Andrew Romine gets the start at shortstop, and Alex Avila starts at catcher.

Last but not least, Buck Farmer gets the chance to follow up on his base hit from last week at Wrigley Field. Victor Martinez sits.

  1. Anthony Gose, CF
  2. Ian Kinsler, 2B
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B
  4. J.D. Martinez, RF
  5. Tyler Collins, LF
  6. Nick Castellanos, 3B
  7. Alex Avila, C
  8. Andrew Romine, SS
  9. Buck Farmer, P

  1. Skip Schumaker, LF
  2. Eugenio Suarez, SS
  3. Joey Votto, 1B
  4. Brandon Phillips, 2B
  5. Todd Frazier, 3B
  6. Jay Bruce, RF
  7. Jason Bourgeois, CF
  8. Tucker Barnhart, C
  9. Keyvius Sampson, P

I’d rather Kinsler lead off and Romine bat 2nd. No way do I give Gose an extra AB
Do agree on giving James and Iggy a rest though. I guess they can they can play charades together in the dugout today.

Buck wins his 1st game as a major leaguer today. Guido sets up a save for Rondon.

I like Gose, but I agree he swings and misses too much. With his wheels, contact and bunting should be his game on offense. On the other hand, it doesn’t bother me much when Miggy or V-Mart K if an out is to be made. Too many DPs from them when they hit the ball hard.since neither of them has a lick of speed.

I know you take VMart out of the lineup, but never Gose at the top. As much as I hate it, Collins at 2 after Kinsler would be the better option.

It doesn’t matter….win or lose they’re getting paid. It was pretty clear early on in the season this “team” has nothing

I think that the rest of the season is 2016 early/extended Spring Training, seeing who can do what next year. This is a good time to find out whether Gose is developing to where he has a future as a leadoff hitter against RHP, versus being stuck at the bottom of the order. Time to let Collins try out as a 4th (?) OF’er for 2016. We should want to give Gose and Collins the extra ABs.

I’ll give to you Gose is fast when he gets on and he should bunt more. Lead off with Davis cause he makes things happen with his legs and put him in CF. Rommine is a good back up for either 2nd-ss-and even 3rd. But his only problem is like Avila’s the bat. Than you have the bull pen. SORRY

What is it with these HRs in NL parks? Sure could have used some in Detroit.

do begin to wonder if Ausmus overused Wilson and Hardy. Wilson with shoulder issue and Hardy, according to recent Beck article, dealing with soreness which may or may not be usual for him. with September around the corner and nothing gained, perhaps the bullpen workload will just get spread around more.

Sampson 67 pitches in 2 innings. He must have visited Delilah before the game. (Sorry, fellow bloggers, I just had to get that in here.)

Tigers came out swinging and scored . Keep it up boys and get the win.

Here we go the beginning of the end…..typical typical typical

Get into the 3rd time through the batting order and all hell breaks loose. This team should have taken 3 out of 4 (or swept) from the Rangers, this season is looking very dismal. Something is not right as they have the talent, outside of the pitching staff.

I don’t even have the energy for anger anymore …….seen it about a billion times this year.

I’m done……10 run inning screw em

5 good innings from Farmer but then a total collapse of the pitching staff.

So……….that poorly executed tag attempt by Nick looms kind of large now, doesn’t it?

And a whole bunch of crappy pitching…….

I’m watching the replay this morning, and they edited that part completely out. Fast forwarded the inning.

This Tiger “team” is not fun to follow this year and to give up 10 runs to a Reds team that is in last place and at 51-71 is pure BS! Avila you need to figure out what’s wrong soon.

I’ve seen a lot of blow jobs in my baseball watching career…I can’t say this is the worse..but…this team is cursed, with a capitol C….They should pack up all their
bags and forfeit the rest of the season…and lets not get on Nick, he’s been most of the offense on the team, along with Kinsler,JD, a loyalist fan, we keep coming back for more disappointment… We’ve had so many of these type loses.
When is enough , enough…..

Oh goody, 2 more runs in. I never thought it would be so easy to turn off a game, this year sure has been a rough one.

Jim Price: “We saw things tonight, we just shouldn’t see.”

The bottom of the sixth was the legacy left by Dave Dombrowski. Multiple members of a bull pen that cannot get 2 outs is really hitting rock bottom. 10 runs in one inning. There are no words to describe.
1. The 13 pitch by Kinsler that led to a walk.
2. The slide at home by Kinsler on the Miggy RBI double.
3. Jumping on the rookie early for five; should have been enough to win for a normal club, especially 5-0 in the bottom of the fifth.
Kudos: Ian, Miggy, Julio
Notice: We scored none on their pen in 5 innings; they scored 12 on our pen in two.
Total Embarrassment.

Hard to watch this team anymore. Is this the best pen that the front office could put on the field ??

Turned it off in the 7th ..mercifully.
It is DD’s legacy when is the last time you had a pen that you felt comfortable with…2006 maybe?
I don’t think there is anone without culpability for this team. Starts at the top and goes all the way to the bottom. NOBODY is doing their jobs well or all the time.

The closer in 2006 was Todd Jones and all anyone did is complain about him. There was also Fernando Rodney. I don’t recall anyone being comfortable with a bullpen since 1984.

Hold up, I forgot Mike Henneman. He was good.

Maybe it is time for an overhaul of the coaching staff. Why are these pitchers or players not doing their job? I know, get rid of every pitcher in the bullpen and get new ones. I love the olde english D. Bring back the magic!

How many Detroit developed pitchers are doing a good job in the big leagues? It’s a short list.

This is the big problem. DD counted on college pitchers being developed into bullpen arms. It never happened.

Ballister and Badenhop did ok yesterday, unfortunately not wearing the right uniform

former Tiger closer Soria is pitching the 7th in Pittsburgh

The frustrating thing is that, just on this site alone, we wondered all last winter when DD was ever going to address the bullpen. He never did and got the expected results. All of that can’t be blamed on payroll.
It’s like the guy politely saying “Excuse me, Captain. Is that not an iceberg ahead?”

Even the Mudhens bullpen blew a 5 run lead starting in the 6th inning to lose 6-5! Columbus bullpen struck out the last 7 Mudhens to end there game. Now that’s a bullpen there. This bullpen virus is contagious from Erie to Toledo to Detroit.

It’s crazy ain’t it? Meanwhile they have Joe Jiminez mired in A ball. I don’t get that. They could have at least promoted him to AA THIS season. At least.

Starting to see the feel good softball articles about next year’s roster. If they are relying on Tyler Collins to fulfill an everyday role in left next year they are more dense than I imagined.

Jimenez is in GR and we need to see him before September. He’s about a 2 hour trip away, and assuming he’s not on the 40 man roster, can they find 1 guy on the roster to hang out on waivers? This season is brutal to watch!

Dirks “Light”.

I hear ya’ Greg. I’ve thought the same thing and as honest a balplayer that Andy was he was also not a solution.
Cespedes was a solution. Someone of near that (or bettter) is imperative.
CF will also be an issue that needs to be fixed–no hopes and dreams.

Yeah, these guys(Dirks, Collins, et al.) are great options as fourth outfielders for platooning. I’m still fool enough to believe that Cespedes will be back. That is unless he becomes enamored of the “Big Apple”.

I believe Jeff Jones is suspect…what in the hell has he been doing to all these
young arms? Can all these pitchers be that bad? Or…are the opposing team stealing
the catcher’s signs?….As for Gose…as I said before….he’s utility only. I noticed a successful drag bunt in yesterday’s game…he surprised everyone… I don’t think
anyone noticed….
