P: Jeff Samardzija

Rondon was projected as the Closer in 2013. Health issues derailed him. Now he is back and Henning thinks he might be ready soon to assume his hoped for role. Soria has been decent as the Closer, but has not been a shutdown guy. Move him back into the setup slot? Look to trade for another back end reliever?

I’d be playing romine today agains Samardjza

Boy do the Tiger’s have early dinner reservations. Two pitches two outs. Samardzjia most runs given up 1st inning and nothing.

Was starting to worry….not going to get no hit at least. Lol

Sometimes Gose just doesn’t play smart ball. Iggy had a nice jump on the pitcher, who has a high kick. He has to take one and get the runner over into scoring position.

Gose is not a very good leadoff….he doesn’t ignite anything and yet Ausmus keeps him in the lead off spot…..he should be in the 9th spot or just used as utility…
Oh what’s the use? Good luck…this team needs a lot of it.

Samardzja seems to have his best games against the Tigers.

Another triple. This game is slipping away.

Guess the guys just not that interested again today. This is why this bunch will continued to underachieve. Letting mediocre pitcher styme them again. Price not that great today either.

Better off getting some stuff done around the house.

As good as Price is I will never understand all the fastballs thrown to Abreau after the triple. A back foot slider was needed but he just kept going with heat until he hit him. He needed a K badly. Reminded me too much of how Verlander would pitch in that situation.
Avi and Eaton always seem to play their best ball against us.
Not sure how we are going to be able to get back in this one other than a couple of bloops and a bomb. David giving out hits like candy kisses now.
This inning will be the death of us today.

Again the Tigers play down to their opponents.

I think I’m just about done with this one. Just when you think these bums are starting to show some life they show you why they will be watching the playoffs instead of participating. I picked a great year to dump my season tickets.
Playing the pirates this week and will actually see good pitching could lose 4 straight at home.

Are there any buyers in the market? We should be selling. This team will need a huge lift just to get to the postseason. Too many injuries + the inevitable uninspiring play you will see out of this group of guys every summer.

Not a quality game for Price. Pitch count too high. Into the bullpen too soon. The rest of the team seems to be taking a day of rest.

Miguel and Victor pretty much stunk it up an opportunity to maybe get back in it. Flipping popups.

This team can or or will not play solid baseball for more than two or thee games in a row. As I stated last week, this home stand determines buy or sell. It’s looking more like sell

It starts at the top. Dave Dombrowski has to shoulder a lot of blame. The injuries have not been as devastating as management would lead us to blame.
The failure to construct a top notch bullpen is the worst indictment on Dave. Signing Victor last year to a very cumbersome contract. And maybe worst of all (and I am ready to hear the vitriol), letting Max go.
Presumbably we have an owner with cash to burn and an ambition to win yet they did not try to keep Max for a few million more than they initially were willing.

The Tigers have the top OBP and BA in baseball. The rotation has been mediocre. The BP has been bottom-tier. It’s pretty clear where improvement needs to be made. It’s not too late, but DD is running out of time. I’d hate to see the window of opportunity close prematurely on the Tigers.

We’re down to one pane glass, Darline.

Who is the better pitcher, Alex or Tom? No change was needed.

69 million dollars difference right? Didn’t he get 215 and tiger’s offered him 146? Not exactly a few million. Max would never have been this good he is pitching in the national league and eventually with his erratic flailing delivery we would of had another JV contract on our hands. Max made it perfectly clear he didn’t want to be in Detroit.

So, do you run for V-Mart?

Tigers tie it in the 8 th inning . Gotta try and win it now . Lets go boys …..

Oh My!

Omg…..first comeback win of the year!

Great win.

Full Window for now

1. Igloo’s 10 pitch AB in the 8th.
2. Clean Relief from 3 guys.
3. JMac throws one out and hits one out.
Kudos to Igloo, JMac, and the Glue that binds the lineup, Victor.
An absolutely critical win.

Just when most of us had given up. First comeback win of the year? Do we dare say that will ignite this team to get back into the race?

Lets hope this game lights the fire they need . Victor stays healthy,Miggy gets the passion. JD and the rest of the crew do their best . We could be back in the pennant race .

Took all day but that’s a second consecutive series win at home.
I’m very curious about this “miscommunication” between Ausmus and Price over whether he was coming out of the game or not. That sounds like something that shouldn’t happen.

Sounds like y’all bought your tickets and are riding the roller coaster. Of course the coaster is called “Ride the Tiger.” 🙂

I went thru the blog comments again. I’m confused by what constitutes a “comeback” win. The Tigers came back from being down 4-3 to win 5-4 on JD’s HR as recently as Friday. Maybe walkoff is what is meant?

Victor did what Miggy couldn’t. The kind of game that can change a team’s direction.
So cool to hear Hawk blame the loss on the ump. (Iggy’s ball 4)

That is the 1st win this year they’ve had all year when losing after the 7th. Friday they were tied in the 7th……cws scored in the top Davis homered in the bottom. So they were not losing. I see were you are coming from but it was really a comeback. Today was the 1st true comeback late in the game all year, which frankly shocks me.

Royals won again 5-3 to sweep the A’s and go 5-1 on their west coast road trip! Tigers barely win 2 of 3 against their nemesis, the White Sox. The boys need to string some win streaks together sooner than later to pickup a couple of games in the standings.

I must admit I was disappointed and maybe a bit worried about Miggy not coming thru twice with a less than 2 out and a man on third. For some reason he seems more vulnerable in those magical moments then he used to be

Considering that an 8th inning score can be 1-0 or 18-2, I don’t know how unusual it is to go 0-30 in that situation. No frame of reference and it doesn’t sound like a readily available stat.

I think it’s a highly concerning stat…….and they’ve been talking about it a lot lately. We’ve loss some blowouts but we’ve also loss some close ones we’re it appeared they gave up.

Toledo’s Jefry Marte is raking. Krol looks to be an unhittable AAA pitcher.
Wouldn’t Cole Hamels look good in our rotation?
Shane Greene got pummeled again. That is not looking good.

During my break at work I checked out everyone’s gloom and doom comments and figured the Tigers were stinking it up. Later, got the text message about a walk-off. I just finished watching the game and am dumbfounded that Price didn’t come out to pitch. I kept waiting and waiting and then Verlander goes into the clubhouse and no Price. Very strange. David always finishes watching the game in the dugout after he pitches and he didn’t come out to celebrate when the Tigers tie and win? Sounds like he was disgusted with his pitching and took his uniform off. What the………??? Great win, however. Victor looks so good.

“If you don’t like it, pitch better.” James Shields
taped up note on David’s locker.

Missed most he game, heard the 8th and 9th inning in the car – almost punched a hole through the roof I was so excited – love hearing Dan Dickerson call a game, dude can barely get the words out sometimes he is so excited. Some big boy at bats in the 8th inning. Will be interesting to hear what he whole David Price deal was about

Hopefully it was just David being personally upset with his performance and thinking that his manager was on the same wave length. regardless, David is our only dependable starter right now (did I just that?). Ouch. Well maybe Sanchie too.
An article about something I and several others here at the BLOG have been thinking for quite some time. The arguments supporting it are all there:

Here’s an imaginary conversation that took place just before the start of the 2014 season. Brad is talking to Jim Leyland.
Brad: Any last words of advice, Jim?
Jim: Yeah, I got one. Choose your lineup and then save time by mimeographing a bunch of copies. At least the first six guys, anyway.
Brad: Can I use your mimeograph machine?
Jim: Yeah, but don’t let the media see that you’ve got one.
Brad: Anything else?
Jim: Yeah. Be sure to save your stencil.

Is something afoot?

From MLBTR: Tigers To Acquire Alexi Casilla From Rays

Dan, I thought the same thing when I saw the minor league acquisition for a PTBNL. Could it be a deal with Casty or Machado packaged with Joba, Gorzo or others??? Castilla (30 YO) is a journeyman capable at 2B/SS/3B. Has DD something in the works?

Wojo has been talking up Cueto. Hamels and Chapman as possible trade targets. It doesn’t sound like Casilla has much to do with anything more than organizational infield depth given the losses of Adame, Travis, Suarez and Perez.

Hamels would be nice. He would provide a security net should Price be lost, is under control and is reasonably priced at today’s rates.

For the trade deadline I heard a rumor we’re getting a frontline hall-of-fame caliber starting pitcher, a top-of-the-league switch hitter and a flame throwing BP stud (was anointed as the closer of a WS contending team a few years back). Get my drift?

I dunno. DD seems to come up large during the season. Two years ago, he got Iggy. Last year, it was Price. Those guys are AS calibre. I don’t know if they are HOF-worthy.

i was talking about JV, Vmart and Rondon. I’m still not sold on the AG for JI deal yet…but i’m pretty close to declaring it a victory.

I think that deal is pretty much secured

it’s true DD often goes and gets someone…mid-season…and frankly it works about half the time…and i don’t know if we have anything to give anyone. This year I think I’d just stand firm and move forward with the JV/VMART/Rondon ‘additions’. Unless they can trade for a decent manager. JK JK JK.

With nine free agents after the season, I suspect any deadline deals to be more about addressing that. The club’s stated goal is to contend every year, so look for the players with at least another year on their contract.

I think it’s going to be a rough week. Pirates have some great pitching.
