Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers at Indians

Nick Castellanos is back in the starting lineup against Danny Salazar after three days out. That does not, however, mean a day off for Andrew Romine, who instead gives Jose Iglesias a day off at shortstop. Rajai Davis’ start means a day off for J.D. Martinez, who’s 1-for-9 with seven strikeouts against Salazar. Martinez also sat when Salazar faced the Tigers June 12 at Comerica Park.

On the Cleveland side, Yan Gomes remains out with a stiff neck, leaving Roberto Perez back in the lineup to face Price for the first time in his career. Gomes, who’s 0-for-12 with six strikeouts lifetime against Price, could be available for Wednesday’s matinee to face Justin Verlander, off whom he’s 6-for-18 with a pair of doubles.

hey there’s Nick! and I thought he was in toledo….that must be the next step if a 3 day break didn’t help him. I, for one, have no problems with Casty. I have more problems with our bullpen – as it frequently loses games for us – and Casty really doesn’t. Vmart hits a dinger tonight – I can feel it.

Well, anybody who isn’t hitting and fielding well is losing games. It’s just not as dramatic as a bullpen blowup.

something is wrong when a 2nd year player increases his Defensive rating by 16.2 and he’s not fielding well. http://www.fangraphs.com/statss.aspx?playerid=11737&position=3B#fielding

I don’t like Rajai in RF and yeah, I’m the guy who defends him, but I’m not blind. Don’t know how else you’d do it though, with the DH spot taken. If we got Salazar out of the game, Brad might use JD.

Maybe Brad wants to take some of the scrutiny off Nick and transfer it to Rajai in RF. That’s just a no-brainer.

Hate to see Scott Atcheson get DFA’d for a variety of reasons.

JD not in line-up? Just cause he didn’t hit a HR last night? No Iggy either? Brad can’t take a chance on winning 3 in a row.

Rajai doesn’t belong in RF. I mean, come on.

JD has faced Salazar 9 times and struck out 7 times. If JD thinks he can’t hit him, he won’t.

I think most folks have noticed defensive improvement by Nick, even though his sample size this year is yet too small to corroborate and validate it statistally. However, his defensive gains have been compromised by his poor offense. The best I can say about that issue is Nick is at least hitting his weight.

Maybe he should gain another 60 pounds!!!

Farmer called up: who goes? Ryan, Krol, Gorzealanny

Gorzelanny hanging by a thread. they cut a rookie (Perez), veteran is next. reaching the end of internal moves to improve ballclub.

thought maybe Ausmus would drop Castellanos in the order to 8th upon his return

267 OBO, 217 with no glove

gave him a 3 game blow, all that’s left before demotion is dropping him in batting order to take further pressure off him.

Price missed there

Fielder and Kipnis now have the most multi-hit games this year.

Kipnis should have been at second. Davis missed the cutoff man.

Why not Cespedes in RF? The throw was not that bad but

He misjudged it, has he been running to the ball, he gets the runner at home

Romine now has hit 1 more homer than Kinsler this year.
.
Are they going to squander a lead off double my Vmart? Ugh they sure did. However it wasn’t a strike. Robot umps I’m getting there.

When Cespedes went down, the odds of getting Vmart home plummeted tremendously.

As much of a purist that I am, it would not hurt my feelings if technology was used to call the plate. Umpiring has sunk to a new low, especially consistency in the strike zone.

1-1 so far but Price not as sharp as usual. Tiger bats need to wake up.

I must say, McCann does a very nice job of handling pitches in the dirt.

And, Moss is now 0 for 25.

Too many pitches David Price! Ugh

Cespedes arm kept the game tied. Raburn would have run on any other

Too many pitches brings Tiger bullpen in sooner.

Gose can go get’em. He ran that ball down very nicely.

Why did Brad not bunt with high-risk strike out guy; Gose?

Big breaks tonight!

Wow. I’d prefer to be both lucky and good, but I’ll settle for lucky.

That is why you dont bunt, With two outs, easy out at 1B. No reason to give away outs to a struggling pitcher

There was nobody out and man on 2nd Gose has great speed and it was a hie game
Absolute perfect time to bunt

No guilt here! Our breaks have been few and far between

Nice inning.

Holy chips! Even Nick hits.

Good inning for Price. Now you’re motoring, Tigers! (Notice how I used “motoring” to refer to a Detroit team?) LOL

Miggy reminds me of a player with the stature of Babe Ruth. He is baseball royalty.

Gose, 10 for last 55

Love that Miggy. He sure made that kid happy.

Here comes Al. The good Al, I hope.

His last game with the uniform

if they were gonna DFA Gorzelanny he probably wouldn’t be pitching now

why not? a wide open game . Make most of the money

Just had to make it interesting.

Ryan could drive him to Toledo

That Miggy and the Kid thing (Dom?) made my entire night. It must be difficult for fans in opposing ballparks to hate on him.
We’re starting to get some distance from that .500 mark. That’s job one.
I noticed that Castellanos has dropped the leg kick, at least for now. Maybe that’s what they spent three days working on. There’s no help for his defense. Romine is kicking Nick’s butt here lately.
Alex Wilson looked totally gassed by the end of this one.
They bringing up Farmer to make the next start in that rotation slot?

Verlander has back pain, so Buck is the one tomorrow.

Kipnis put on a show today and is having a great season. It’s hard to believe Infante and not he is the ASG leader at 2B.

1. A six run inning.
2. We got the break, then made them pay.
3. The Pen didn’t give up a homer.
Kudos to Yo, Victor, and DP for grinding through. Even Nick had a good swing on the double. Last but not least’ mega kudos to “Babe” Romine for his new found power. He has basically contributed some way in every game.

Krol to Toledo

Could be over for Krol. He showed nothing at the MLB level after being dominating at the MiLB level. Seems like there could be a possible attitude thing going on with him too.
Raja played better out there than I thought he would or could, Actually.

Actually, I think your earlier assesment about his stuff is spot on. But, I also think he has command problems which interfered with his success at the MLB level. Perhaps the Tigers left him at Toledo before to work his issues out and he has been returned there for the same reason.

Or maybe it’s just for a few days until JV recovers and they send Buck and/or Ryan down

Rondon: 3 batters 3 Ks; 13 pitches/11 strikes.

Once Farmer goes to AA, Rondón will be eligible again, They wont carry 3 LH if not for KC and Cle
Wagner:
“And after tonight Hernan Perez OPS w/ Milwaukee is .759 … easy there, Joe”
The Tigers missed badly there( so far) They called up Wilson shortly after

Iott: “Ausmus said the back did not bother Verlander while he pitched but did bother him as he warmed up for each inning after the fourth”. And then he went until 117 pitches….

Krol : IR % 50 first , Second Al2 and Wlison at 40( last night worked for Al2)
Blown saves: 1 in 1 sav opp
WHIP ( the Rottiserie baseball stat) : 1.929 just ahead of Josh Wilson and Farmer
FIP : 9.00
ERA: 8.68
What not to like?
Nesbitt had better numbers , he was there because he is LH.
LH BAA :400/.500 /.600 /1.100
Years hoarding LHP and he ends with Gorzelanny and Krol (Where you have gone Doug Fister?)
BTW: Coke is a FA after being outrighted by his second team this year.

Lineup at CLE: Davis 8, Kinsler 4, V. Martinez DH, Cespedes 7, J. Martinez 9, Castellanos 5, Romine 3, Holaday 2, Iglesias 6. Farmer starts.
Did Cabrera injure himslef sliding at home?

We will have the game on local TV, unless until the Military parade. People will be disappointed

“Even Superman needs a day off,” Brad Ausmus said about sitting Miguel Cabrera today
Fenech

he looked hurt after the slide.

Krol did poorly in his recent call up for 3.2 innings of work. A very small sample to quit on someone. Ausmus noted: “This is the second time it’s happened to him…It’s just somebody needed to be sent out. I feel awful for having to send him out, but we have to do something.”
