Thursday’s lineup: Tigers at Reds

In a stunning surprise, Bryan Holaday gets the start at catcher, giving James McCann the night off after catching 13 innings (OK, 12 2/3 innings) on Wednesday. Other than that, it’s a pretty standard lineup (sans DH) against Mike Leake.

The Reds, meanwhile, are giving Todd Frazier and Jay Bruce a night out of the lineup after extra innings last night.

A replacement for Nick? Machado is working out at third.

Will the weather Gods and the baseball Gods be kinder to the Tigers for this game? Price was knocked out by a long rain delay. Even though he did not have a shutout, I would like to believe he would have pitched better than the pitchers who followed him and there might never have been extra innings. Gose certainly stretched out in an attempt to catch that triple. I’m not sure AJ would have done that. From what I saw, Iggy would have had the ball that hit 2nd base for an out. Finally, there was the bad bounce that hit Miggy in the face. Another possible out. What will it take to get a bit luckier in today’s game?

From the looks of radar, they may not even play at all. Radar forecasts have been spotty lately, though. The weather this summer sucks.

Darline-just saw this at BlessYouBoys: http://www.blessyouboys.com/2015/6/18/8803521/detroit-tigers-clutch-hitting-stop-blaming-brad-ausmus-its-jim-leylands-fault-too
Haven’t read it yet but I know I will agree with it!!!

Yep…High leverage situations for the Tigers statistically means a lesser chance for success. You got it right intuitively.

The numbers quantify what we’ve seen on a daily basis.

Sure hope Verlander has a spectacular outing because the back-up plan (Gorzelanny) stinks.

Joe Jimenez: 19 IP; 33 Ks; 0.78 WHIP

Delay. Are the weather Gods doing the Tigers a favor or not?

Any word on a possible start time?

right side: 7:30

Your BP tonight : Hardy, Gorzo, Soria, Romine, Wilson

Yes, Dan, I have felt the information in your article to be true for a number of years. When it is not just one or two players but the whole team, I begin to look for an underlying cause. Just what could that be?

No game tonight

Postponed.
