Sunday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Indians

Nick Castellanos gets a day out of the lineup amidst an 0-for-9 slump and a 3-for-15 homestand. Andrew Romine gets the start at third base over Josh Wilson. Bryan Holaday, having finishing hobnobbing with the stars such as Sir Richard Branson, gets the start at catcher.

Meanwhile, Francisco Lindor is supposedly in transit to Detroit this morning, but he’s not in the lineup. Perhaps Detroit really did pick a good weekend to close Interstate 75 near the ballpark. Mike Aviles is back at short.

Someone needs to educate the British tabloids, they called the first pitch by Branson: “bizarre”. .Somehow , they put it the same scale of skying with a naked woman on his back or his failed balloon trips

Steady rain covering the area. I don’t believe it is expected ti clear up but you know weather reports they can be wrong.

It appears that neither team’s #3 hitter should be pitched to today.

Ran themselves out of the inning with the pitcher struggling. I don’t understand that stuff.

What’s the old saying you have to get the good ones on the first inning?

I don’t remember when I have seen so many strikes called balls and even a ball called a strike on Gameday. Is anyone else noticing this?

Yes.Joe West at home, not a surprise

Ya Romine should of walked…..Joe West is bad. Heck most of them are bad

Ya Romine should of walked…..Joe West is bad. Heck most of them are bad

Gotta get to these pitchers when they struggle in the first inning

Any projection on the delay?

Max Scherzer is pitching right now in Milwaukee for anyone who has a game package that allows you to see it.

A long rain delay? Both starters not able to come back? Tigers have to depend on the BP for 4 innings? OR game over, Tigers win 2-0? What are you hoping for?

Game over—bird in the hand

Max is making that one well worth watching Rich

Max Scherzer in Milwaukee: 6 hitless innings on 67 pitches. This is on for real.

I’m predicting Carlos Gomez to break it up.

C’mon Rich- let’s go for the history books

Carlos Gomez? LOL.

Ha! Nailed it. 13 minutes before he actually broke it up.

Tiger game started up. They’re into the bullpen. Hang on!

Whew! Hardy got through Kipnis, Santana and Brantley in the 6th.. Can he put down Moss, Murphy and Gomes in the 7th?

….and Hardy has been terrific. Can he go 3 innings? Whatever happens in the 8th, Soria should pitch the 9th, save situation or not. He hasn’t pitched in a week? He’ll be rusty and moldy when they really need him.

Soria will get a less stress inning. I hope Joakim works on his strike-out pitch

Anybody know how well Marte has played defensively for the Hens?
I would expect Collins will go down simply because there will even less ABs for him with the way Rajai has been playing

I don’t like embarrassing
Your veteran closer for Godzilla

Simon has been a nice surprise for the Tigers. I initially considered him a #4 or #5 starter in the rotation mix. In reality, Simon has stepped up and proved he is the second best starter the Tigers have.

Soria got squared up pretty good. I hope this outing shook the rust out.

Great win. Ausmule needs to watch Soria’s work more closely. They will need him sharp in much tighter situations.

Rumor has had it the Tigers are looking for another starter. I just read Rant on MSN. Hamels was tossed out there as a trade target for the Tigers. Seems a longshot, but would make sense for a win-now team and would provide a security net in the event Price is unable to be re-signed.

Hamels would be ideal. Cueto more likely. Or even Leake

That all sounds good, but………..who has to go to get it done?

The Phillies would be looking for talent in return. There was talk the Phillies might even be willing to absorb salary. And the thing is, Hamels is reasonably priced at today’s stardards even without that consideration.

I must admit, the comical thing about rumors of this sort is that just a few days ago the Tigers were reported as possible sellers with Price as the item of the day.

Had the game on tape; finished watching late. Nice win for our guys this afternoon.
Like all have said, Simon is a very pleasant surprise so far. The bats seem to be heating up with the temperature. It was 92 in Roanoke, VA today. We’ve had 90’s for the last five days. I wish someone would take Nick aside, and get him on the right track. it’s always nice to see the homegrown tomatoes do well on the vine. It’s nice also to see a Hoover vacuum cleaner down at third. So what do we do?
1. Julio adds gravy to the biscuits.
2. Hardy says, “don’t call me Laurel; I’m not done yet”.
3. Miggy just flat out hits the ball. It is rumored that he’s requiring all day games at Comerica for the remainder of his contract. Kudos to Ian for a nine pitch walk, and for Tom coming to Soria’s rescue in the 9th. Ha! Bring on the big Red Machine. I do admire Joey Votto, I must admit.

Jason twitted:.”Reds scout was at Double-A Erie game earlier in week. Most of Tigers top prospects at other levels, though. ”
Maybe not Cueto but a journeyman pitcher or a position player from the Reds?

Hope not Burke Badenshop again. He is not worth a top prospect even if was valuable for Boston. He is not the kind of reliever the Tigers need, that is high SO rate

Aren’t Kubitza and Green at Erie? And Turley thgrew yesterday. Cueto and/or Chapman could at least be available as rentals.

Jason said “most”. But for the Tigers , a trade means giving more than one or two due to the low level of the prospects.
Cueto has been dealing with an injury. Beware of Washburn redux

I was just thinking of Victor riding that bus to Syracuse and telling the Mudhens players “In the show, the women all have long legs and brains.” (the inimitable Crash Davis)
