Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers at Athletics

So to get everybody caught up:

  • Alfredo Simon, who was supposed to start for the Tigers today, has been placed on the bereavement list to deal with a family emergency. He has left the team.
  • Kyle Ryan was called up from Triple-A Toledo to start in Simon’s place. The Mud Hens, however, are in Louisville, and getting from Louisville to the Bay Area is neither quick nor direct. So he won’t make it in time to start.
  • Alex Wilson, who has filled numerous roles out of the Tigers bullpen in the few weeks he has been with them, now gets the role of starter, likely to fill two or three innings. They’ll play it by ear from there.

Most important item, Alfredo we hope your father will get better not worse, soon!!! Come on offense, get the run support going early and give Alex some early confidence so he can bridge to the next guy.

Good post. Looks like a tough day for the Tigers in more than one aspect. But, I’ve kinda liked Wilson from the start. I hope I didn’t just give him the kiss of failure with my comment

Darline, Wilson has been a “God-send” for the BP so far! Now, he answers the call and steps up and throws 3 innings of hitless ball too!

If scores remain as they are now, Minnesota will tie KC for first place today. Wait…..what?

Ian looks disinterested at the plate.
Or is that simply fear?

Royals dropped another one today

good – we can use the help! They were really on fire and now the Twins!

20 innings vs A’s. Tigers 1 run.

Excellent 3 innings by Wilson. What’s his first name, Earl? The question now is does he pitch any more today?

22 innings, 1 run. Cespedes would have been a run scored on Holaday’s hit? 5 runners stranded. Cabrera strikes out twice. They are really ripping.

And another caught 2 caught stealing today. I can hardly take it.

I agree with you regarding the calls. The 5th inning fiasco was unbelievable. Does New York not get all the views that TV viewers do? There was daylight between the ball/glove and Gose. The “challenge” needs to be challenged!

Honest to god Kinsler finally gets a hit and nobody is one base……Gose caught stealing or so they say.
.
Seems to me we’ve had a few, obvious calls this year and after review they still got it wrong.
.
Cespedes homer…the big hit finally

OMG. A HR. 3 runs. Call me Ripley.

Ryan……..looks like he might be losing it here in the 6th.

Jet lag?

Nice job by Ryan to get out if his mess!

Cobwebs cleared away. Has he got any more innings in him?

Cabrera 3 SO. Can’t even hit the ball for an out. When are we going to find out he is playing with an injury? V-mart, JV, Rondon, Iggy, Avila, ……..

Well, he’s obviously pulling off the ball on some pitches and swinging thru pitches. Otherwise, he’s swingly awkwardly on balls he is letting get deep.

I don’t see any evidence of injury, unless we are talking about his vision as GK has questioned.

Wilson and Ryan did really good jobs today. As for Davis, not so much with the glove. He played Vogt’s ball into a triple. I think Davis either had to make the catch or back off the wall, field the ball and get it in to limit the advance by the runner. Otherwise, a sac fly gets him in from third.

Miggy has had some REALLY BAD ab’s today

Yes, he did.

I need to shut up. I’m jabbering again out of nervousness.

Davis has 2 triples today.

Cespedes made that play close. Davis could have played that into a triple. Ofay, I’ll shut up, hopefully.

I was hoping Miggy could get a bog hit there in the 9th. Um nope that’s a bad day at the plate.

That shift has burned us a lately doesn’t it seem?

Amen…..that had disaster written all over it. Pen game and weazaling out of a few jams.

Cabrera last 7 games:
.360.467.560.1027.
One bad day at the office

As excruciating as it was, that was a good team win. Took the series. Oakland has been losing those games for what seems like forever.

From the highlights I can say, a win is a win is a win

Wow a “WIN”! AlAl you have to get the K’s as the 1st 2 outs and then the Fly out so the run doesn’t score!! This has been your downfall, giving up the inherited run! Syria after giving up a hit and BB gets out of the inning!! Nathan would have lost this game!

About Nathan, probably so. Although Soria’s save was reminicient of the Valverde era.

Soria, I obviously meant. Syria, couldn’t get out of their own way or anybody’s way right now!

Great to see KC come down to earth after their “stratospheric” start with AVG and ERA beyond expectations! No team could keep that energy up for longer than 40 games. Actually 40 games is longer than normal! Come on TIG’s, take the 1st game from the Halos!!

Another much needed win by the good guys . Very hard to win a series and only score 4 runs .

I was joking but someone asked it:
Ausmus : “Private jets are very expensive.”

Larry, indeed it is tough to win 3 games scoring 4 runs! O.co is a pitcher’s paradise so hence the SP’s low ERA’s! Good solid game considering the “hodgepodge” staff available for today’s Win and the weak bats that showed up today≥.

You score four runs in a three gamer, and the ordinary fan would say that the Tigers were just swept. It’s a crazy game. We get two and are only one out. Can’t believe the Twinks share the lead.
1. Dennis the Menace would have been proud of Mr. Wilson.
2. Ceaspedes decides to take a pitch for a change.
3. Matchado, not Manny, decides, ” if Igloo can do it, I can too.
Kudos to Rags for the tree is; he still can’t field. Props also to WilsRyan, the new starter. Thanks Mr. Soria for being a Tiger. Kindler finally gets a hit. Miggy becomes an Honorary member of the Helen Keller Foundation. Honestly, I don’t see how we’re only one out. Just thankful that we are plodding through, awaiting the return of Victor.

Scherzer ,7 IP and 108 pitches.Maybe he was saving himself to cash as FA. He wont be the first Boras client to do something like that. The DBack accused Drew of taking too much time healing and Youkilis called out Eltsbury .
Meanwhile, Porcello is back to normal. 5.67 ERA.11 HR allowed tying Aníbal.
BTW: Shields has allowed 15 while playing in a pitchers park, 7 at home

Congrats to Machado for his 1st ML hit and that sweet glove play.

Moya is starting to hit a few. Collins will need to hit here to keep his bench job.
We really do need some pop in our lineup.
Good to see Cespedes deliver but a team needs to have more than one event per game that determines the outcome.

HEY the bullpen can start being eventful, again, if you’d like!

Ryan optioned and another reliever called up?

no no!! we, CLEARLY, need MORE middle infield help!
