Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers at Athletics

The Tigers decide to give Miguel Cabrera another chance in the starting lineup after sitting him on Monday. His night-game stats have been well documented, but he has pounded Jesse Chavez’s pitches in their few meetings when Chavez has given him something to hit.

Ian Kinsler, however, gets the night off, his first game out of the starting lineup this season. Between his 0-for-20 slump and his 3-for-14 history against Chavez, the timing seems to make sense. Hernan Perez gets his second consecutive start, this time at second base, while Andrew Romine starts in place of still-hobbled Jose Iglesias.

On the Oakland side, Ben Zobrist — who was activated from the 15-day DL on Monday but didn’t play — returns to the lineup on his 34th birthday against former teammate David Price. So, too, does Brett Lawrie, who missed the last few games with a sore back.

Rajai in RF? You have two DHs.

You just might as well have Kinsler in the line-up….Perez is not a theat at all…it’s like having a pitcher batting ninth…….sometimes I wonder about Ausmus and his
managerial skills…has he ever done anything but screw up situations.?…I would rather have Kinsler playing second anyway….Baddddd decision. Now you put
Miguel back in the line-up and you weaken the second base slot….

Get real! Kins needs a day off.

Kinsler , 0 for last 20. Well overdue day-off

Saw the A-S votes for 2nd Base. How does Kipnis not get recognized?

I hope your right, Tiger fans….Perez is not the answer….

JD in RF, Rajai DH, Greg.

Hernan’s most comfy position is 2nd base. Hope he’s successful tonight.

There have been at least 4or 5 pitches 1 out into the 2nd that look like obvious strikes to me and Price isn’t getting the calls. Ugh.

Price looks a little off do far to r

Price isn’t fooling any of these Oakland A’s hitter…no ground balls..just hard hit balls…..deep…score still 1-0 Tigers….

Well it’s the bottom of the sixth. …David weazaling through trouble. Throwing too many pitches an will be out of the game early And none of our hitters are hitting still. Ugh.

Now Price is showing his stuff….Now if the Tigers can score some runs…

I don’t believe Ausmus wants this game….

Hello Soria….RJ, Miguel com’n guys…

Well we got through the 8th. Was not in agreement with Ausmus on his 8th inning bull-pen decisions except with bringing in Soria to get that last out. It’s sad Soria had to come out in the 8th to get an out but necessary.

Are these foiled base stealing attempts missed hit and runs or is Ausmus just intent on running us out of this game? Three in a row???? Give me a break.

Sorry for blaming that Rajai thrown out attempt on Ausmus when it looks like Rajai screwed that one up all on his own. What the heck was he doing trying to steal with Miggy up?

Missed hit and runs according to Dan & Jim.

That was the most stupidist steal attempt…w/Cabrera on deck, gee we could
of had KInsler ph, …okay all together, Our Father…..

……AMEN. What the do you have to do to win a game, my goodness.

Wow, can’t believe that run in the first inning held up as the difference in the game. Tough win and sorely, sorely needed. Where would we be without Soria?

This team can’t hit.
1. The Gose catch and then near catch.
2. Romine and Gose have nearly all of our hits.
3. We scored first in the first, and nobody else scored again. That means we won.
Kudos to DP and Soria.
Bedtime!

Didn’t the Tigers win a game 5 ALDS by 1-0 in Oakland? Verlander?
That one was a sweater. Obviously a miscommunication there with Rajai. The green light needs to be taken off so I don’t know what happened there.
I think the bullpen deserves some props. Joba did what he was called upon to do. Brad always had Soria ready as the backup Nice mix and match there in the 8th.
We’re fortunate this week that two of the west coast games are day games. I hate this late night stuff.
For strike zone watchers, Alan Porter should be the homeplate umpire tomorrow, and I think he’s the best. Now don’t make me look bad, Alan!

120 plus pitches to keep Valvaerde out of the equation

No Simon for tomorrow!

Not sure how they pulled that one off.
When Cespedes was caught stealing I am pretty sure Casty missed the hit and run. Holaday came over and gave a bum swat to Cespedes in the dugout, basically telling him you did right not your fault.
Casty later struck out on a 3-2 pitch that was in the dirt.
Ausmus looked like he had enough. To take Casty out in the 7th of a 1 run game (where his bat could be needed) for Machado says it all.
Nick may be the cat’s pajamas some day but he has a lot to learn about teamwork.
Gorzelanny will be given a long leash I think (because of his salary and free agent signing) but the guy has failed a number of times in getting LHB out. Vogt hit a bullet off his first pitch-lucky he didn’t get under it. I actually think Krol is a better bet than Gorzelanny.
Perez again showed little. Romine is showing he is far more valuable.
You folks back east never cease to amaze me with your loyalty to your team. Pretty late to be watching a bunch of guys who have plated one run in the last 18 innings.

I did not watch the game, usually we dont get late games here. But i would like to. It is my kind of games: close game, pitching duel. Chavez had a 2.89 ERA before the game, so nothing unexpected.

Well they won…..
.
Instead of the night of the double play its the night of the caught stealing. (Although we still managed to ground into 1.
.
Sorry to hear about Simon’s father and obviously he needs to do what is best for him which is seeing his father. But it seriously shows the lack of pitching depth.

just finished last night’s game (mlb.tv)
.
very relieved we won, and that’s kind what matters. Good defense tonight – great pitching. It’s a tough ballpark to score in. To be fair the A’s aren’t good this year.

Cespedes CS 2B: 3.1 SB Twice SB 3B. 0 CS.That is odd. He cant steal 2B but with 3B has no problem
The Tigers have GIDP for 16 consecutive games , on pace for 178
Gorzlanny as reliever has beter numbers against RHB . The Tiger knew it before signing him. If we believe the rumors , he has been a trade target for years so thy have scouted him. Still, he was signed to be LOOGY and used as one by Ausmus against the numbers
With him and with Cespedes , the Tigers got exactly what they got. Cespedes numbers are in line with his career numbers. BTW: A´s fans like him more than Tigers fans
Good defense, but Romine added a dozen pitches to Price count with a misguided throw according to what I have read

Romine hit the runner in the back of the head. It was a tough throw from a tough angle to make the fore play. It wasn’t a lousy off line throw.

Yikes! force play. No pun intended.

I’ve been facetious before about Miggy acting like a speed guy on the back end of stolen base attempts. BUT, this is his third attempt in a week of games.

Kipnis: I dont know, I voted for Altuve. He has been the Astros MVP and is the reigning batting champion

I get your perspective and think he was a legit MVP candidate last year. This year, not so much. But, I do think Kipnis belongs in that top 3 vote this year. Infante, no.

He was hitting 300 before being stopped by…the Tigers pitchers

There is pitching depth. Lobstein, who is on the DL, and Buck Farmer, who is already scheduled to start tomorrow. Rotation is all messed up.
I thought Romine should have just thrown to first rather than risk a tag play with Nick.
I remember the Nats using Gorzelanny in middle relief, not as a LOOGY.
Cespedes more popular in Oakland than Detroit: alcohol makes one like people. 🙂

Speaking of liking people. Did you hear the fans boo Muchado on his rookie first start? That can’t be about him. It has to be about that Donaldson-Muchado fray from last year.

And pitching depth, yes. Quality depth and/or readiness-another issue(s).

Here, during the broadcast that was not mentioned , we had both ESPN and Venezuelan TV. Pity they booed the wrong Machado. Dixon is the first MLB player ever from San Cristóbal, Venezuela while Manny is from Miami( Dominican parents)

Fred Lynn took a charter, could Ryan do the same? Paid by the team of course

I thought Romine recognizing the easy out at third was very astute, however, there was one out, not no outs, and the best play was to take the 2nd out at first.
Still, at least he is thinking out there. Romine has been a very good acquisition.
Casty is due to to ride the pine soon- he may have got lucky today because of the southpaw. He really needs to start fulfilling the promise he once had.
Not expecting much from Ryan today.

The Hens’ website says Farmer is starting today? Why wouldn’t Dombrowski have had him called up to pitch?
Moya starting to hit.
Rondon not getting many Ks yet.
According to Mario and Rod it sounds as though Verlander may be the best simulated game pitcher in history.

If Ryan starts today my lineup would be:
Rajai
Romine
JD
Cespedes
Collins
Casty
Holaday
Perez
Machado

It would be a throw-away game anyway so why not?

You took a big chance posting this. You could end up being tortured and crucfied, figuratively of course. Or not?

I have been a a big critic of Nick. But, he is acting of late like he is learning on the job, both offensively and defensively. In fact, Nick leads the Tigers in RBIs over the last 7 with 7.

McCann has done a decent job, particularly for a rookie. But, 5 GDP in the last 7 cuts it in no way.

Didn’t realize that. I remember him hiting in several but didn’t realize it was that many.

I juth came from the dentith and I can’t thpeak too good. Mouse is numb.
Lookth like Wilthon is thtarting.

Darline, I like Nick and must admit my disappoinment stems from wanting him to do well. I didn’t expect there would be the significant flaws that appear to be in his game. especially at the plate.
I think when he learns how to adjust naturally to a pitch rather than trying to do something in particular with it, he will be much better. i.e. If he “tries” to go off field he often ends up with a lazy fly ball. When he “tries” to pull the ball he often hits routine grounders. His plate discipline is probably as bas, if not worse, than Cespedes. One more year around Miggy and Victor should help with that.
