Sunday’s lineups: Tigers at Royals

J.D. Martinez returns to the starting lineup as expected against Jeremy Guthrie, making it a pretty standard lineup against the right-hander. Alex Avila catches the day game after a night game, hoping to parlay his history against Guthrie into an offensive spark amidst what has so far been a 1-for-11 road trip for him.

On the KC side, Lorenzo Cain is out of the lineup, having dropped the appeal of his two-game suspension from the White Sox fight. He’s 3-for-16 for his career against Anibal Sanchez, so the timing made sense. That said, his replacement, Jarrod Dyson, is 2-for-19 off Sanchez.

TIGERS (career numbers off Guthrie)

  1. Anthony Gose, CF (1-for-8, K)
  2. Ian Kinsler, 2B (14-for-42, 2 doubles, triple, HR, 3 walks, 5 K’s)
  3. Miguel Cabrera, 1B (16-for-50, double, 3 HR, 6 walks, 8 K’s)
  4. Victor Martinez, DH (12-for-34, 3 doubles, 3 walks, 3 K’s)
  5. J.D. Martinez, RF (6-for-18, double, 2 HR, walk, 3 K’s)
  6. Yoenis Cespedes, LF (0-for-5)
  7. Alex Avila, C (8-for-29, 3 doubles, 3 HR, 5 walks, 8 K’s)
  8. Nick Castellanos, 3B (4-for-9, 2 doubles, K)
  9. Jose Iglesias, SS (0-for-3, K)

P: Anibal Sanchez

ROYALS (career numbers off Sanchez)

  1. Alex Gordon, LF (5-for-15, double, walk, 3 K’s)
  2. Mike Moustakas, 3B (3-for-15, 2 doubles, 3 walks, 4 K’s)
  3. Kendrys Morales, DH (2-for-6, double, walk, K)
  4. Eric Hosmer, 1B (5-for-22, double, K)
  5. Salvador Perez, C (2-for-15, 2 walks, 2 K’s)
  6. Omar Infante, 2B (4-for-24, walk, 3 K’s)
  7. Paulo Orlando, RF
  8. Jarrod Dyson, CF (2-for-19, 4 K’s)
  9. Christian Colon, SS

P: Jeremy Guthrie

Even if Anibal pitches any kind of a good game, the Tigers need to score some runs. 4 runs in 3 games just does not cut it.

Last night, it went unnoticed but Infante was at 2B like waiting a throw from the 1B and risked his body to trick Gose. We call it caribbean baseball

Quick inning. I think the shift stinks. Are you kidding me Avila and Castellanos playing. See that’s what happans when you shift certain guys who take advantage of the left field line. When any player from any team gets a suspension they should make them serve it immidetially.

Gotta agree on the suspension issue . No they drag in on trying to get a couple days knocked off of it .

Did I ever tell you about the blind squirrel I have in my backyard? Avila got a hit and drove in a run and got caught off base for a double play. Nuts.

He was doubled on a hit-and-run. Avila was dead meat from the get-go.

Another double play? How do you do that at 3rd base? Base running error?

Avila was running from first on the hit-and-run. The ball was hit on the fly to the outfield and caught. Avila didn’t have a prayer at getting back in time so he just chugged into third. The ball was thrown to first and Avila was thus doubled off.

If I ask dumb questions, remember I only have Gameday here. No live action.
Anibal is doing great so far. How about some run support, batters?

That never fails, ask to drop a player off the lineup and he goes 4 for 4 with a GS

2-for-2, 3 RBIs so far for Alex Avila in day game after night game.
Not funny…

My blind squirrel has contacts. Looks like a certain Tiger made contacts, too.

3 more to tie Kaline and Galarraga

Huh? Kaline and Galarraga in the same sentence?

What a pair! Avila can only hit when there is a runner(s) on base. Casty can only hit when there is no runner(s) on base. LOL

Iglesias, day to day

J D and the ump could cost them the game

Getting a little tight there. Soria in the 9th?

Sanchez beyond 100 pitches usually gets dicey, but we had two big league relievers to finish the game. Gorzelanny had the K and Scott didn’t call it, hence their 4th run.
The expected split was executed as expected, I expect.
It will be nice to have a day off tomorrow.

Only lost series so far was to Yankees. ChiSox having much trouble. Don’t let them come alive. Take that series also.

1. Scoring six runs in a game; more importantly, we got them before their BP got going.
2. Sanchez going deep and effective again until he ran out of gas.
3. The Romine play at deep short; nice to have an above average backup.
Kudos finally to Mig, Double A, and Cool J. Julio is still flailing at the plate. Avila went an entire game without striking out. If you have to play him, he must contribute. Suddenly the Twinks are playing respectable ball, and the Chisox are in a bad funk. Don’t let up on them Tuesday. Nice to be back on top, and basically moved the schedule along 4 games with nothing gained or lost. Moving toward Sparky’s 40 game Benchmark. 27-13 would be awesome; did I tell you I’m a Dreamer?

Had to work and asked and asked a customer about 5:00 if he watched the game. “Oh, yeah. They were getting killed. I asked about Anibal Sanchez. “He didn’t have it. Score 14-6. And, then, I checked my phone as soon as I left work and what a great surprise!!!! Have to wait until 1:00 am to watch the replay. As much as I love David Price, Anibal has always been my favorite pitcher. Tigers with a split.

Good ending in Kansas City now be prepared for the south siders . Tigers need a day off maybe that helps . Good to get the series split today.
