Saturday’s lineups: Tigers at Royals

For the first time this season, J.D. Martinez is out of the starting lineup. He gets the night off amidst an 0-for-10 stretch with seven strikeouts since he homered at Target Field on Wednesday. Beyond that, he’s 2-for-17 with 11 strikeouts. Rajai Davis starts alongside Anthony Gose, giving them a speed duo in the outfield as well as the 9-1 spots.

Even with the lefty-lefty matchup, keep an eye on Mike Moustakas. While left-handed hitters are 11-for-34 (.324) against David Price so far this season, Moustakas is 14-for-43 (.326) against left-handed pitchers. Against all pitchers, he’s 10-for-23 over his last five games.

As for the shift the Tigers have put on Moustakas and Eric Hosmer so far this series, Brad Ausmus said after Hosmer’s bunt single last night that they might tweak their strategy a little bit, but that they’re still going to shift them.

As for the photo above, it’s Salvador Perez bobblehead day. That was the line outside the first-base gate just over four hours before game time.

Devon Travis is hitting .329 with SIX homers And 19 RBIs.
I was really disappointed to see him go. Having Ian is great but it made Dombrowski get too careless in trading DT. BTW, Devon also had 3XB hits off the top of the wall recently

Oh, the Blue Jays love him. Kinsler is GG at his position but he very seldom takes a day off. Who would we replace him with? Hernan, I suppose.
.
I started working pt again and so many people had their Tiger gear on. Everybody so impressed with KC and wanting the Tigers to show some fire.

23 SO/37.9 SO% /469 Babip l/eading-off.. the experiment failed

That never fails

Is it me or is Gose look afraid out there? Maybe give Davis the starts instead. Tell me what you think.

I forgot Avila should sit along with Castellanos.

Avila: 9 SO in his last 14 AB

YES

I don’t think I have said much about Avila but it certainly doesn’t look like he is ever going to hit any better and those of you who have seen him more than I have don’t feel his defense has been very good. The Tigers seems to hold onto players too long. (Inge, Raburn, etc). In Avila’s case, do you really think it is because of his father’s position with the team?

no

allow him the first batter

Oh, geez. Come on, David.

He’s the man!!!!

Nothing like a pitching duel with your Ace in the right side

Great pitching by DP. A shame he didn’t get the CG shutout. But the Tiger hitting is still woeful.

Kudos to David, we needed that win.

Strange call on Gose at 2ndbase there. Ticky tack. Intent to advance? That’s how they call it at 1stbase.
David Price demonstrates his value. Now we’re ready for tomorrow’s game.

Also, that’s the second time in ten days that the opposing team has made the call for the umpire.

Yes, I didn’t understand that call but I’m not in the loop on baseball technicalities.

Big win in Kansas City . Lets hope this carries over to tomorrow . Price was good just like he once was. Go Tigers ,,,,,

I saw Gose simply pivot to go back to first base. Horrible call. Umpiring in general is getting less and less in quality and pride. The split is still on, which would mean wonderful for the Tigers if they can pull it off. Hitting is still non existent, with nothing again from Migg or Mart. Gose finally did settle in, and is much more effective when simply trying to put the ball in play. Avila got another walk; he did call a good game, and made the nice throw to get Moose. With both Rags and Gose in the lineup, I would flip the two; Davis is more of a catalyst in the one spot.
1. David Price shows why he is a big time pitcher; held Hosmer, Gordon, and Moose in check.
2. We got the lead early, and never gave it up.
3. Hitters were more selective tonight, and earned some free passes for that patience.
Not enough can be said about Price. I think Brad knew that it was critical for DP to complete what he started. Hopefully Annabal was watching intently, and can duplicate that start. Finally, can someone tell me how KC finds these Bull Pen Magicians, while we hold our breath that Al or Hardy can get the ball across the plate.

Despite his recent slump, JD is ranked second in HRs, seventh in RBIs and eighth in Rs among ALL MLB right fielders. I don’t see those kind of numbers as easily replaceable.

Lineup en KC: Gose 8, Kinsler 4, Cabrera 3, V. Martinez DH, J. Martinez 9, Cespedes 7, Avila 2, Castellanos 5, Iglesias 6. Sanchez comienza.

Day game after night game, Avila not McCann

Brad just doesn’t make sense with this issue. Nothing about makes sense.
Avila can’t hit, needs rest, McCann can hit doesn’t need rest.

Daddy’s in the front office?

Well most Venezuelans fans think so. He and Galarraga yelled and shoved each other during a game in Cleveland( Fox Detroit did not show that). The Venezuelan announcer said: “Ay, he is fighting with the boss ´ son”. After the season, Armando was extended and then released.
Do I share that opinion? Why not? if Tigers fan ( those that see themselves above the masses of Mlive) can believe the libel against Avisail ,why this one must be false?
My theory has been that the effect goes in the opposite direction, they ran him to the ground to show they are above bias. They are making him no good the way he has been handled since 2011
