Friday’s lineups: Tigers at Royals

A whole lot of ugly numbers from Tigers hitters against Chris Young, who beat them twice last year. Anthony Gose and Alex Avila return to the lineup. No Alcides Escobar again tonight for the Royals, whose only change is Paulo Orlando in right field over Jarrod Dyson.

Need smarter ABs. They’ve been swinging at elevated fastballs and that’s what this guy throws.
Since he resembles him, just pretend it’s James Taylor on the mound.

Then let’s hope he is a Walking Man” and doesn’t shut us down with “Fire and Rain”

Based on first inning at bats I guess I’m not going to expect anything better than last night.

Awesome start.

Lord have mercy.

might just turn it off now. kyle is overmatched. defense is sloppy. and to boot the other teams power hitters can bunt. total mind blower!

Just think if Alex Avila would consider doing that. heck force him to.

Only KC. No other team tries that

Letting freaking Chris Young make them look foolish. Just forfeit if this is what you are going to do. Striking out 4 of 1st 6. And he’s a guy who doesn’t strike people out. Great job.

I haven’t watched KC prior to this series, but they sure do play “hungry.”

They are making him a pitcher

A pitch up by Iggy’s neck called a strike?

Unlike the Tigers, the Royals make their AB’s meaningful. The Royals have faced our 5A/5B starters and jumped on them early to create a mismatch. This game is over.

They have beed making swing at high pitches the 3 innings, the zone is bigger now

SLOPPY

Shocker Avila drops a ball at home plate and they give Gose an error on a perfect throw.

He always drops the ball.

Avila and Gose. One run each one. For the wrong team

hows is that an error on gose avila daddy little boy

Cause his throw allowed runner to advance to 2nd on the throw. It’s crap but that’s the way it works.

Jd and Yoenis swinging at crap so far out of the strike zone it has a different zip code. Great hitting team my butt?????.

good pitching beats good hitting. good thing we have Vmart and a crappy bullpen, huh!?

Except he’s not an ace…….

VMart is not the problem. They spent big on Nathan and failed.
Cespedes, JD, Castellanos and Kinsler are not hitting and Gose cant

JD is the one who must be moved down in the order

That was brutal…..pathetic…..sickening……
Our guys look like they are golfing up at the plate.

4 innings, no hits? (groooooan)

Avila has been living off his laurels for a few years now. And you are right about him hanging on to (even catching) throws home. The guys look beaten and over matched. Gotta respect that Royals energy. They are an exciting team for sure.
BTW I don’t buy The media reports of him being almost “there”.
Horrible at bat by JD followed by an even uglier one by Cespedes. Magnified by a take on a high hanger
Wake up and take notice Dombrowsi

Constantly swinging for HR’s and missing. Wally Joyner needs to give them a clue.

Avila 8 SB-1 CS

I’ve defended Avila for a long time but if you can’t hit (whopping 163) can’t throw runners out. Can’t catch the ball. Sorry I don’t want ya.
.

660 over the Green Monster. 3-0 count

??????

ARod tied Mays

Oh I get it now

Can any Tiger get a hit?

Nope….Guess last night wasnt bad enough…gonna be no hit tonight.

Yost takes out “Sigh” Young???
Tigers look like they are 14 runs behind not just 4.

They might have to bring up somebody from the farm to get this team excited. JD & Nick look awful at the plate.

J D 11 SO in last in last 4 games. 9 in last 12 AB

2 BB in last 10 games

OBP 293.

finally

time to PH for Gose

that never fails

2 for 11 vs Herrera

Ugh!

Herrera> Miggy. Trying to hit a homer not trying to just put ball in play,

Trying to be a bit positive. They battled Herrera pretty well. Miggy needed a big hit. Victor swung at ball 3? Not a no-hitter. Not a shut out.

Did you see the man dressed in his Tiger suit behind home plate. Well, for those who didn’t, he was holding up a big yellow sign 1-800- CALL CABRERA. Gave me a good laugh.

that guy is an internet legend Tiger Suit Guy i think is his name

Twice they had the bases loaded and got 1 run.

It took eight innings, but a ballgame finally broke out. Epic AB there.
A lot of bad ABs tonight. No patience. Royals get away with tons of pitches out of the zone. Sometimes it’s better to not swing.
Bizarre strike zone……….again.
Get the next two for the expected split.
A guy dresses up in a bizarre outfit, situates himself where the camera is on him most of the time, and becomes a legend…………..?

….just try scratching for a hit….management is lacking. Cabrera should try being a team person instead of a hero..waiting on
pitches is lacking…no patience. Gose is not the answer either.Bad lead off !
If the Tigers win the division, I’ll certainly be surprised. They haven’t played the rest of the league yet….Here we go again Tiger Fans….

1. In reality, Lobster pitched well enough to win;one bad inning.
2. Three opportunities to tie the game; fell flat three times.
3. A really good 11 pitch AB walk for VMart tonight; really feel for him.
After the classic AB with Mig and Kel, the game was over for all practical reasons. Victor still has jelly legs, Julio doesn’t have a leg to stand on, and Yoennis is all legs. When you can’t get production from 4-6, you really are in a heap of trouble. Then comes our Walk specialist AA; instead of a courtesy runner, he can become our go to guy for a walk; it’s bad when you don’t hit your weight; Again, I feel bad for Alex; his future is as a backup catcher in the National league where he can get an occasional walk.
The next person who says the Tigers have the best hitting lineup in the AL needs to be committed permanently; we saw the best lineup and team tonight; I love our guys, but I don’t see beating this bunch over a 6 month season. If we don’t lead them before the 7th, we go down to defeat. The reports on Gose was that he can’t hit; well, he can’t hit. With Julio, one understands why Houston made that cut; he needs to throw away the notebook, and start hitting the ball. Nick is a work in progress; I hope by his third year, he produces like his former HS team mate, Mr. Hosmer.
Someone tell me, Why can we not hit second tier pitchers; Young made us look very old. We have not had a dominant pitching performance since the previous Simon outing; the Lobster has been fairly consistent. DP needs to really stand up tomorrow, and show us what he’s really made of.
Still can gain a split, but no margin for error at all; Oh me, Lerrin LaGrow, where were you when we needed you?

You are watching what the Tigers would be without Victor. The offense, until he is ready, is a one man orchestra.
JD regressed and is becoming Rob Deer.
Cespedes is like every slugger ,streaky and still can hit the breaking ball. But I would move him higher , to the clean-up spot even with a fully recovered Victor
Gose has no business as lead-off. All glove, no bat and that wont change
Castellanos got the first hit but he is supposed to be all bat, no glove. So far, neither bat nor glove

Gose was never supposed to be a leadoff hitter but his spring training and hot start changed that. Now that reality has set in, they need another change. If it’s not going against the plan to protect Iglesias, Iggy should hit first. He has a good eye and makes contact, which explains all his infield hits. If Gose, hitting 9th, does get on base, Iggy is just the guy to follow.
In any case, you get a better all around game from Rajai.
JD is letting me down. He’s back to trying to do too much, pulling the ball, not hitting inside the ball. Hopefully a temporary thing.
I was disappointed in both JD and Cespedes by going up there hacking away after Young had walked the bases loaded. Terrible ABs.

Kinsler on Young: “It’s a different angle,” Ian Kinsler said. “But on top of that, we weren’t disciplined tonight. That plays into the whole thing also.”
That man tells the truth without sugarcoating.
Our smartest hitters are Miggy, Victor, Kinsler, and Iggy.

After a month the Tiger weaknesses have revealed themselves.
Gose, who has shown he can rake, is a bad habit machine offensively. He has not excited us on the base paths.
Kinsler, age starting to factor possibly. The power is not there. As valuavle as he is we do need some power out of his spot in the lineup.
Miggy’s weakness is that he simply can’t carry the whole damn team. He is a possible consideratiokn for a GG at 1st this year.
Victor his body can’t keep up with his heart. I don’t see a full recovery this year and we need more flexibility next year at that DH spot. He is keeping Miggy on his feet and I am not so sure that is a very smart idea.
JD is not “fixed”. He is an ongoing project but one worth either waiting on or trading away for serious pitching.
Cepedes will in some ways be the most consistent player we have. He will consistently waffle between greatness and mediocrity.
Castellanos has had baseball life too easy. He has to get a little quicker to the ball (at bat) and utilize his power to the pull-field when the opportunity presents itself.
Avila is a vestige of the early model which excited so many fans here in Detroit, me included. He is not as superior behind the plate as many believe. At the plate he is a disaster. When I watch him carry himselp on the bench and the ball-field I think of the term “entitlement”. McCann is the future. Avila should be trade bait.
Iggy has been a blast of fresh air for Tiger fans and a cool breeze of calmness on the back of his pitcher on the mound.
I expect there will be additions and subrtractions soon. Gose probably first. He needs a 2nd division team and the comfort of being given a CF job permanently. Daniel Fields is making noise.
If JD and Nick continue to slump they also could be considered for a little -pick-me-up in Toledo. JD is replaceable (and I am not saying he is anywhere near being sent down) but Nick is not. As fantastic as Romine has been, we need an impact bat at that position. Nick is just going to have to learn to be more disciplined and I think a little less selfish.

DD needs to take a long and hard look at this club . Try and evaluate every position and soon . The wheels came off and need to go back on . We all knew the series in Kansas City would not be a cake walk . Lets hope Saturday and Sunday are better .

Lineup : Gose 8, Kinsler 4, Cabrera 3, V. Martinez DH, Cespedes 7, Avila 2, Castellanos 5, Iglesias 6, Davis 9. Price 1.

Avila is hitting below his weight. I don’t imagine they will do anything about that until it is below his wife’s (Kristina) weight.

I have a question regarding hitting….does the batting coach go over how to apptroach the opposing pitcher….especially Chris Young? The Tiger lineup
looked sick against him(no hits) …no strategy, no what…I have to say there’s no
game plan…just go up and hit if you can.
The team wasn’t successful against him in the past(Chris Young)…you think they would have
learned something from their experience….I’m just a fan, expecting more
from the players…there is no scratch and claw from this team…Ausmus looks
hapless as a manager, so does the rest of his coaches….just my opinion watching
all these games.
The only light I see so far is Soria, who has been very effective as a closer.
