Friday’s lineups: Tigers at Braves
From the Happiest Place on Earth, we bring you the Tigers lineup where Jose Iglesias is the designated hitter. It gives Iglesias a third game in four days while still watching the wear and tear on his legs. Andrew Romine will move back home to shortstop, while Hernan Perez starts at third base.
No Yoenis Cespedes, as expected, but that would have been the case even if he didn’t have a left quad issue. He said he was so-so when Brad Ausmus checked with him this morning. He’s tentatively scheduled to start the home split-squad game tomorrow against the Phillies, but Ausmus indicated he’d be surprised if Cespedes plays tomorrow. More likely, he’ll make the trip to Jupiter (he lives down the road in Fort Lauderdale) and play in at least one of those games.
Alex Avila seemingly has a better chance to play Saturday, as there’s an open spot on the lineup sheet for a catcher to bat second for the home split-squad game against the Phillies.
We’ll have an intersection of Tigers setup relievers today, as Joba Chamberlain pitches in the same game as Jose Veras, whose spot he arguably filled when he signed with Detroit last year. Veras, a Tiger for the stretch run in 2013, is in Braves camp on a minor-league deal.
