Saturday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Indians

The Tigers were limited to a Nick Castellanos double and seven singles (two each from Miguel Cabrera and Victor Martinez, one each from Ian Kinsler, Torii Hunter, Bryan Holaday) in Cleveland Sept. 3. Salazar struck out nine, four of which came from J.D. Martinez. Just minor tweaks from that lineup to tonight: Alex Avila, who was out for that game, is in at catcher, while Andrew Romine gets his fifth start in six games at shortstop.

The Indians give Jose Ramirez a day off at short, moving Mike Aviles in from left field. Michael Brantley returns to left after DHing last night.

Since Sept 4., Romine has a slash of .375/.375/.375 in 16PAs

and 3 SB (0 CS) too!

Star Wars night!

Oh, no. 2 runs off Lobstein already. Brantley just kills Tiger pitching. Kyle has pitched so well for a rookie. I hope they give him some run support and he settles down now.

Not the start you’d like to see. ..down 2 and KC up 2 already

Kyle 25 pitches in the first but only 11 in the second. Maybe he has settled down. Now it’s up to the hitters to get them back in the game.

They can’t catch up to Salazar’s 97-98mph fastball. Can they adapt? How long can he throw that heat?

Good job bottom of the lineup…..

Tied game. They adapted.to the fastball. Now if Ian can just figure out his base-running. Took the bat right out of Miggy’s hands.

KL barely hits 90 with his fastball. He must have something on his pitches.Got thru the heart of their line-up that time. Cat’s pajamas.

One M caught up with it. BoSox got a run. Come on KL. Hold them. Yoooooooooo.

Well we were in the lead for about 5 minutes?

So close, KL. Good job on Brantley to get out of the inning. Looks like KC might win unless BoSox make a big comeback.

Bone head move by Castellanos not going to 3rd

he knows it.

Dumbshit baserunning was huge..Castellanos argh

a knucklehead non-move.

Couldn’t see what that was all about. Did it look like Brantley was going to catch the ball? Anyway, the bottom of the order has been setting it up but Kinsler and Hunter can’t cash it in.

Nope. ..not in the least.

And now you strike out with runners on looking at pitches right down the middle?

is CLE bullpen really that good? I think we can still get this one!

Strand, strand, strand.

Boy did the ump screw that strike call up joba/gomes

ALEX!!!!!

I TOLD YA’LL!

Alex saves em for the right times

Had to take a break away from game. Watched a TV show that I’ve been into for years. Hell on Wheels. Came back just in time to see the trampoline man put one in the seats. Wow!

Oh no Joe. Dare I watch this?

Thank goodness!!!

Oh my I thought that foul blooper off the bat was going to be fair…..whew?… Ok Nathan good job.

yeah me too

can i breethe now¿

Alex outplaying opponent catchers lately. When it counts. He hits his share of game winners.

That had been a very entertaining game even before the Avila homer. Good night of baseball.
Castellanos needs a mental break; he’s never played this much in a season. I’d expect Don Kelly to start at 3rdbase tomorrow.

That might be a very good idea . Give him a day off let him collect his thoughts .Alex comes thru at the right time . No help from BOSTON . Darn it anyway……

hey no worries: the pen still good, bats still producing, starters doing well and defense at league average. Oakland tanking, KC regressing (BOS is terrible, c’mon) and we’re getting healthier even (e.g. Soria, Miggy). Cheers ya’ll!

1. Trampoline Man comes through with that classic lefty swing.
2. The Bulls stepped up big time tonight.
3. Blue Eyes Andy makes a big time play in the hole.

Kudos to VMart, and to the bottom of the order for good hitting. Rookie 1 could use a day off to get his second wind. Top of the order made very little contribution tonight.
Joe Snort is trying his best to make us forget the first half of the season. Alex is sort of inclined for the dramatic. Julio is all or nothing every game. Indians have to feel snakebitten by this one. Bare it All Man can really make a statement with a solid performance tomorrow. Getting greedy; want the sweep. One game at a time.

Just want to say…that Rajai Davis has been playing his arse off…his efforts mean a lot to whats happening to this team….I’m sorry for all things I may have said about the man in the past, especially during that Jackson trade…. the team was down, and so
was myself and all you fans…who posted comments voicing your frustrations…
hopefully the team has straightened itself out and we’ll all see the Tigers at the pearly
gates of the Central…and on to greater rewards.
Good Night Mrs. Calabash where ever you are!

I was one of them. Rajai has been playing sound baseball lately. I was a little hard on him. His aggressive play is very much a positive for this team. What a strange season. Rajai epitomizes it. Strong start, strong finish, and what the heck was that thing we experienced in the big middle?

Trevor Baurer today! He’s not a shut down guy by any means….something like a 4 and a half ERA guy lately. He’s better pitching on tribal ground, and slightly better during the daytime than nighttime. Not much of a RHB/LHB split with this guy, aside from he walks more LHB but gives up more doubles to RHB. He seems like the kind of guy who is vulnerable to those who swing at the 1st Pitch; and is slow to settle in. A 1st inning ambush is just what the doctor ordered. I’d like to sit around and chew on that bullpen for at least 2 innings today.
.
Casty wouldn’t play if it was up to me, he doesn’t hit Baurer well anyhow (.182/.182/.273). Play Don at 3rd, unless you want to give old man Torii a day off and then give Perez a blow at 3B. Unfortunately, Alex really hits Baurer well but probably should rest today. Ian also hits Baurer well, so that’s good because the top of the lineup needs to produce and Ian needs to get his bat going.
.
With indian dobbers down today, I think the Tigers win handily.

lineup: Kinsler 2b, Hunter rf, Cabrera, VMart, JDMart lf, Avila c, Castellanos 3b, Romine ss, Davis cf. Verlander p.

VMart 1B. Miguel DH.
Avila, day game after night game
Suarez in the doghouse.
Castellanos avoided the punishment for his two mental mistakes

Nice to see some positive attention to Rajai. He’s had a good year. He didn’t get down when his playing time was limited and he makes things happen. He’s been an unsung hero this year.
