Tuesday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Royals

Andrew Romine gets a third start at shortstop, partly for his defense, partly for his recent at-bats.

“Consistency with the glove, obviously, we’ve known,” Brad Ausmus said pregame. “But if you get a guy like that, who’s a good defensive shortstop, swinging the bat pretty well, stealing some bases, it makes it a lot easier to write his name in the lineup if you’re scoring runs. If he were scuffling with the bat and the team was struggling scoring runs, it might be a different scenario.”

The switch-hitting Romine, for what it’s worth, is 17-for-47 off left-handed pitching this season. He’s 1-for-3 lifetime against Jason Vargas.

Don Kelly’s reign in center field, however, is done for the night. Rajai Davis returns to his usual spot with lefty Vargas on the mound for KC.

  1. Ian Kinsler, 2B (17-for-53, 6 doubles, 2 HR, 3 walks, 2 K’s)

well the bats aren’t cold – we know that. can max find his stuff – that is the question.

my bad rajai

What’s up with Jack Morris announcing? Doesn’t he work for the Twins anymore?

Frustrated, that was his pitch to put it over the sing in CF

Why is Morris on with Mario and Rod?

jack morris? announcing for what – tv? Dan and Jim are the way to go anyhow.

ah on TV my b

I agree. Dan and Jim are the best but unfortunately I have a hard time getting in 97.1 or 1270.

that’s fair i listen to the games via mlb gameday audio ($20 a year)

I’m enjoying listening to a different voice but am curious as to why he’s doing these games.
.

Max losing it a bit here in the 5th. 1 run in and runners on the corners with only 1 out. Hmmmm.

Boy that was a loud foul ball. Max you want ti be the man …step up.

The field produced a weird bounce

And another walk bases loaded.

JD’s 20th!!! A REAL DINGER!

Ian and these pop ups…..jeez
.
Jd is the real deal it seems

CFs picked off in consecutive games…

How can they not see on the replay that he pulled his arm in to avoid the tag. Getting a little tired of the replay not even getting it right.

That is the 3rd or 4th review in Tiger’s games were it is clear to me even with review they don’t care to get it right. He clearly didn’t touch Davis until after he touched the bag. Chalk another one up for inept umpiring

Rajai sure looked safe to me. How do they miss that on a replay?

Idiots…..

That play by. Kinsler makes up for at least two pop ups tonight! 🙂

nathan….ugh….come on man

Oh boy……not really Joes fault but jeez

Strike someone out

nathan picks him off – holy cow – what a vet!

OK, Joe Great job!

Great job Joe!

TIGERS TAKE IT! Tied with KC for 1st! That’s right! Ricky tomorrow🙂

Whew! Joe made a comeback. Perez’ 3rd strike was well out of the zone.

Why on earth all the attention to stealing third there? It was a two run game.

mental mistake?

Cleveland lost. Now for Seattle, I hope.

Jack Morris is doing six games this week. Said to be an audition? Look it up online, this info is there.

Isn’t Morris from Minnesota? seems strange that he’d want to leave home to take a broadcasting job in Detroit. maybe strange, but true. we’ll see.

ESPN
Max Scherzer: 20th pitcher to record 3 straight seasons of 16 or more wins, 230 or more K

First since Johan Santana (2004-2006)

KC looks green, Tigers look like they’ve been here before. Nathan threw some good sliders tonight, huh? That’s a big deal! Soria coming back too – another big deal. Playing defense tomorrow will also be a BIG DEAL. We can win tomorrow – KC’s got their dobbers down!

Supposedly was a double steal.

Yeah……….not sure that was the best strategy for the Royals but whatever, Yost.

Yeah. Guess if you’re 20-22 in 3rd base steals, those are better odds than betting the hitter has a 90% chance to get the hit. Plus the disrupting factor. Dyson blew it on his timing, committed too soon. Nathan made a heads up play. Agree ET it should have been a double steal. What a great finish……for us.

And what a terrible missed call on the Rajai non pick off. Ridiculous review. Even with the poor camera angle he was obviously safe. Thought reviews were supposed to insure bad calls were reversed. There I go thinking again.

Got back in from UVA today. Had to go up Sunday; more blood; more tests. start hyberbarric oxygen treatment tomorrow for 30 days. I’ll be a real “blow george” then.
Two good wins from the guys. Maybe the passion is in the gut after all.
1. I rag on Rags a lot, but he can hit left handed pitchers. Good boost from the nine spot tonight.
2. Julio is trying to prove that he has finally changed, and deserves to play with the big boys. Thanks for the 20th. Julio.
3. Old Joe bore down, and looked, if just for a moment like Young Joe. Keep on snortin’.

Max was only good tonight; he’s got to become very good for us to finish this out. Will need to score early again tomorrow. Can’s score on the KC Pen; not sure we can score on Shields. For all practical purposes, we are ahead right now. Would love to give Hoover a plug tomorrow night. Time for Ricky P to get back in form.

literally, under pressure. hope you get better greg!

Supposed to be some pretty bad storms again this afternoon/ evening compatible to last Fridays.

IMO nothing like last fridays….but there is now, and will continue to be, rain in the region.

I missed that last 2 innings so am glad I was able to avoid the blood pressure increase in the 9th inning. Just saw the pickoff – that was huge for us. JD has been such a great asset to the team this year, guy can handle the bat and his homeruns are usually no-doubters. Is it me or did you sense tension between Rod and Jack on tv last night? Is Rod worried about his job? There was lots of interrupting each other or maybe I was just reading into things. 1st place baby and not looking back.

i am worried about them getting the game in tonight. perhaps it’ll be pushed back to a 9pm start?

KC and Detroit have a common day off on the 18th. KC would have to travel to Detroit from KC and then back to KC to play……Detroit. The Tigers would be traveling from Minnesota to Detroit to KC. Not fun, but do-able.
The alternative is a possible extra day after the season ends. One or both teams could be in contention for a postseason slot.

They could play the game at KC the off day or as a Doubleheader. The Tigers are better away.

Rule 4.12 for suspended games. I understand that applies here:
(3) If suspended on the last scheduled date between the two clubs in that city,
transferred and played on the grounds of the opposing club, if possible;
(i) Immediately preceding the next scheduled single game, or

are you kidding me? the game would be turned into an away game from a home game? pfft that’s total BS – even in the face of the “better away” argument.

The rule calls for it if they are unable to play that day off. And that is better than bounce from one city to the other

hmmm better for whom? just seems like we’d be getting the short end of that stick. If the game was played in KC and it was supposed to be our home game….does that mean we bat first or they do?

This is defining a rained out, not started game as suspended?

I checked but could not find a different rule for the rained out game. Anyway, the Tigers would take the trip back. It was just an hypothetical question

it continues to look like a rainout, btw. rains look to be subsiding closer to 10 than 7…IMO

That’s the way I see it too, and that’s not counting the field conditions once it blows through.

Game is looking highly doubtful so it will be interesting what will happen. I get the travel would be a pain, but taking away a home game just doesn’t seem right, especially given that we are in a pennant race with this team and the home crowd will be very amped up.

Lineup vs. KC: Kinsler 4, Hunter 9, Cabrera DH, V. Martinez 3, J. Martinez 7, Kelly 8, Castellanos 5, Avila 2, Romine 6. Porcello starting.

Suarez felt out of grace. They will take the risk again in CF

No, the Tigers would be home-club.

Like KC when they play the last part of the game that began at KC but will end at Cleveland .

Candy Maldonado praised highly Davis during yesterday´s game. For him, he is doing a good job an he thinks he covers more ground than Jackson. A neutral observer´s view is usually a good perspective to have.
I take his 250 against RH with his glove

Sheilds stats are worse during night games, against lefties and on the road.
.
No Davis tonight? Well he is .111/.111/.222 in 11 PAs against him. Kelly has .222/.222/.222 in 9 PAs.
.
MIGGY however has seen Sheilds 54PAs and is hitting a slash of .380/.426/.660, and Torii has seen him even more (59PAs) and is hitting .321/.345/.429 off Sheilds.

Low sample . Anyway, it not that Porcello will give many FB
