I hope JV keeps in the habit of undressing himself tonight. All these LHB on the Tribe could do that job quite easily.

No sooner said……………

Typical terrible start for JV as he gives up a 2 run homer! He just can’t seem to start strong lately.

Wow–the Indians are getting some pretty good swings in against JV.
Not very pretty so far.
I’ll try to refrain from the Upton jokes (it will be hard) but the guy deserves what he’s getting in the media. You choose to enjoy the attention the media will give you then you will have to accept the consequences.

Same thing as last night 2 outs and a homer by Santana…deja Vue

Verlander FIP 3.92. His ERA should be lower

3 innings 2 tigers ground into double plays

Yep just like last night…are you serious?

Here we go…..bad defense bad pitching and absent clutch hitting

The E was on Kisler , the ball bounced to close to Holaday

Salazar can’t pitch much more IMO. That bullpen is going to cough up a bundle of runs….it’s not like the bats are cold.

Question for the remainder of the season and potentially 2015, who is the Ace of the staff??? Definitely not JV, will it be Price or Max or a FA or possibly someone like Shields? I would like to see JV swapped in a package for a CF and a SP at the very least.

Who would want him hes been varying degrees of sucky for 2 years and has a very large contract

Shitty Verlander night. Not surprised there are about 88 starting pitchers better than him. Whatever. Kc winning tonight and has a far easier schedule down the road.

Not really worth watching. ….over and out

Ugly. I think they are playing like they are worn out from the drama of yesterday.
Looking forward to seeing the rookies get in now.

Brad not thinking like me. I’d have Collins or Moya hitting for Rajai, Perez for Kinsler, and Collins or Moya for Hunter

I guess they would rather see their regulars give away their at bats and get it over with.

The bad news is that now means the Tigers are 0.5 games ahead in the wild card now.
Takes out Hunter and could have given Moya an at bat.
Takes out VMart even though he is in a race for a batting title?
Not gettin’ it.

for some reason, i hadn’t realised that victor was in a race for a batting title.
a peek at mlb-dot-com and i see he has 2nd best batting average. wow, very cool.
and while i see that JD STILL doesnt “qualilfy” for that MLB stat chart, his .311 matches brantley’s who is #8 in the MLB. exciting for JD too ! (but really? JD still doesn’t have enough at-bats to qualify? i’m thinking the requirements might be a bit too stringent. )

DD could propose JV and Rajai for Fister and Span. Send JV back close to his home and include Krol in the deal if needed. I believe there will be quite a few changes in personnel this off season. Too many “huge” egos on this squad and Ausmus unable to manage them!

Sometimes you tip your cap to the starter. Their guy hosed us tonight. My only complaint in games like these is how our guys approach their AB. Much too often, when down by four runs, I might take a pitch or even two; granted, Salazar was throwing strikes, and tough ones at that. But we never put him in a pressure situation.
SuperModel was typical tonight; perhaps he’ll retire and become a movie star. The thought of paying him 30 M next year is mindboggling. Which GM will have the guts to push for an end to multi year contracts, especially with pitchers. As much as I love Miggy, I hate to see the production at age 39, which will only cost 35 M per year. It would be tremendous to get the third win tomorrow night, but right now I don’t have a great deal of confidence or respect for old Blue/Green Eyes. The year that began with so much anticipation is ending, I’m afraid with rumbles of disappointment. Kinsler is such a defensive genius; why is he so stubborn about uppercut swings? JV is exactly that, Junior Varsity. Miggy is just now getting his legs back, to hit, not run. Rajai is fast, but his speed is hardly utilized. Defensive effort every night is hold your breath and pray. The Bull Pen is all bull and no pen. Avilla will have to have a brain transplant to continue behind the plate. Rookie 2 lulls himself to sleep with routine plays, and looks like Iglesias on the tough ones. Donnie, Baby will die of shock if he hits a homer this year. Tori is like a yo yo; going up big time, and then going down just as fast. Julio’s swing is amazing; remember last night; remember tonight. Who’s the real Julio? Rookie 1’s bat is better, but he throws to St. Louis to get a runner at first. I miss Drew; I miss Ajax; sadly, I don’t miss Fielder. What I do know more than anything is that VMart, in all reality should be the AL MVP. His team would be nothing without him. Finally, I close with this thought; we ain’t out of it yet, through all of this mess.

Still in it will be tuned in tomorrow night . Gotta think they can play better and get the much needed W . Really agree with Greg the salarys are way out of line .

.. The rookies look real good…so let play, they certainly can’t do any worse than the regulars..
Doesn’t seem they play real hard for him…..JV that is. He looks like a loner in
the dug-out… I watch just about every game and this is what I see. Maybe, just maybe, I’m wrong.. If swings and misses were money, they’d be rich…and just so
they are…NOTE: if our batter swings and misses on a low pitch…take the next pitch .DON’T SWING AT IT AGAIN!, WAIT FOR A CALLED STRIKE ! CALL TIME!

This afternoon’s game is an absolute MUST WIN in my opinion.

Teams crawling into the postseason, usually, go deep once there. I still think they will win the division.
More worrisome, most of the team will be back next year but the few unsure could be the more important:
Avila, team option for next year. McCann will rust on the bench like Holaday this year and then called out for his shortcomings after playing once in a while
If Iglesias comes back, better defense, lesser bat at SS. The same lack of defense at 3B but the Iron Glove´s back will be covered by Iglesias. Castellanos wont be better , it is not about coaching,Quod natura non dat, Salmantica non præstat.
I still see Kinsler as the most likely to be traded to alleviate the payroll load but not until 2016
Davis and Dirks at LF., Tigers´management dont drop players that easy. And JD where he belongs RF.
So only CF.
I wont be surprised if they give Hunter another year out of loyalty
Victor is projected to make 45/3. Miguel is recovered will be at 1B in 3 years so no problems there but with Victor himself, since he will be 38.
Rotation, Price replaces Scherzer and maybe a veteran inning eater like Brad Penny back in 2011.
Will they extend Porcello? He is set to make around 12 -14 next year and aiming 100 plus as FA .90/5 : Sanchez. Weaver- JV like is a fair offer
Will they offer 144/6 to Price? he wont take it either
BP: Soria , Nathan, Hardy. Al2, Coke( he did just enough to keep his job this time, Im pretty sure he will de extended) and then? With Soria you can allow Joba to walk away but they will need a 7th inning guy to share duties with Al2. JH was paid for nothing , he owes to the Tigers. Nathan´s downfall will continue but will be less money to eat

I would sign VMart this second for 45/3.

i would not sign him for 3 more years, albeit i’d sign him for 1 for 15MM – maybe 2 for 30MM

That would mean losing him to Cleveland, they love him

GOOD in a year or two he will be a burden to them at 15MM a year

Runners at 2b and 3b. The runner comes home with a grounder to the IF. The catcher was ahead of home , left side. The runner was called safe, upheld wrongly in review since it was out. Arizona- Padres. Same happened to Holaday last night , he was unable to handle the bad throw by Kinsler and had no chance because the new rules forces him to be where he was. Kinsler did what he was taught to do? but under old rules

Believe it or not, I think some team out there will want Verlander. And the Tigers should let him go if they can. Yes, it will take some salary relief that will need to accompany but DD is getting pretty used to to that.
The team will need to change a lot.
Iglesias SHOULD be ready to go. As to a dropoff at short offensively, I don’t see it.
He hit in Boston and his hand-eye is to good not to hit better than average.
Casty WILL be better at 3rd, it’s a natural progression. Brooks, Schmidt, Nettles, Aurelio all had over 20 errors their first full season. A couple of those guys had over 25. Nick has 13. I know all about RF and UZR—it will get better too.
VMart will not be kept. Not if the keep Miggy. That is a major decision. One that could change the complexion of the team radically and instantly.
I don’t see them keeping Torii unless he is on the bench as a coach.
Dirks is history. As is Coke. Avila needs to be converted to corner infield. But not in Detroit.

fully agree

Mark Simon:Highest % of swings missed, pitches in strike zone

Sale 24%
Scherzer 23%
Dickey 22%
Estrada 21%
Collin_McHugh 20%
Liriano/Degrom 20%

The offense , somehow, it is there.
Mark Simon:
Graphing OBP and Slug Pct for offenses over last 30 days. Did not expect @SFGiants to be in best spot on the graph

“The Tigers are the quintessential “built to win now” team, so nothing short of a parade and a champagne shower for owner Mike Ilitch will earn them an A grade”.

“build and win now” that’s some quintessential media hype, my friend!

Kinsler 2B, Collins RF, Cabrera DH, VMart 1B, JDMartinez LF, Castellanos 3B, Holaday C, Perez SS, Davis CF; Scherzer P

Those with experience first to start among the call-ups

Interesting and appropriate.
I think (“expert” criticisms aside) the Tiger farm system has produced a solid near term future with prospects, especially position players like Moya, Travis, Machado, McCann and Collins.
I really am pulling for Miggy to be able to take advantage of the DH role at this stage of his injury. It is common knowledge he is not fond of the idea but he is such a pure baseball player that he has to accept it and move on. For his own good and for the team’s.
