Friday’s lineups: Tigers at White Sox

The forecast suggests the Tigers and White Sox should be able to get this game in tonight before the rains arrive. Saturday is much more questionable, which makes a timely game all the more important for these guys.

Ezequiel Carrera gets the start in center field tonight against White Sox starter Scott Carroll, who’s allowing a .300 (77-for-257) average to left-handed hitters. Considering right-handed batters are hitting .289 off him, this is not exactly a massive difference in splits. It is, however, an opportunity to get Carrera some at-bats.

On the White Sox side, Avisail Garcia gets to face his old club tonight for the first time all year in this injury-shortened season of his.

Don’t see any reason to pitch to Abreu at all.
Also, when I tried to tell my wife who was pitching tomorrow I couldn’t remember if it was Ryan Kyle or Kyle Ryan. True.

Not that helpful but :Tigers 60 HR at home/64 away. HR allowed 56/away 54. OPS 783/723 allowed:731/718. 2 games more away

Ryall Kine?

Sure would be nice to get a positive surprise out of JV tonight.
Interesting they are playing EZ tonight.
McCann will need to be added to the 40 man.
Will they bring up Moya and Hernan and possibly Collins?
The argument for Hernan may be to get Suarez paying attention again.
I like the way Romine has been playing defensively.
I’ll bet Price is just chomping at the bit to get back on the hill.
Will fans be able to find a comfort zone when Miggy comes to plate? Tonight?
This year?
The worst thing about his slump (and it IS a slump) is seeing the fun taken out of his game.

http://www.minorleagueball.com/2014/8/24/6060705/scouting-reports-from-fridays-reading-erie-matchup

.
Here’s the link of a scouting report saying Moya will never be able to hit in the big leagues. Not saying I agree with this, but having heard so much about Moya, it was really discouraging to read this.
.
In summary the report say’s, “His stroke is short for a big power hitter, but it doesn’t make much of a difference since his pitch recognition and bat to ball skills are poor and he can be beaten in many different ways. I have no idea how he is hitting .273 at Double-A and I don’t expect him to hit anywhere close to that in the Majors. This is a well below average tool that will be exposed at the highest level.”

“All of a sudden, you hear, ‘Where did this guy come from?’ Well, if you’re looking only at prospects and pure, hard numbers, you’re missing half the boat. Our development people are developing talent based on physical ability.”

Moya is an example of the Latin American player who arrives in North America minus the statistical portfolio United States prospects have been accruing since their high school days. Latin players, especially from the Dominican Republic, often have played in unstructured settings, minus statistics, or context.”

The latter is true. Usually Latin American prospects are invisible in the rankings

“Verlander is 1-3 with a 5.51 ERA over his last five starts against the White Sox. He was 12-1 with a 2.23 mark in his previous 13 vs. CHW.” Gameday.
Before those 13 he struggled against them for years.

Thats how i remember it.

That 1st run is on JV and his errant throw to 1B on the pickoff move, allowed the runner to advance to 3rd and score on the SF.

Rod doesn’t really have his facts straight justin this year is much worse against righties 7.26era/.331 batting average. Lefties he has 3.91 era/.252 batting average.

Shaky first inning, JV. I hope that was your worst inning. Please?

5+ era of Cy Carroll too much for them so far. Typical.

these bats’ll wake up just be patient

What has lead you to believe that? I hope you’re right. Ir just seems when i expect them to hit well they fail me….meantime justin is getting hit hard

This inning will give us an indication if he can manage the Sox tonight

The Tigers as a team are better against LHB. The Kinsler-Cabrera defense

JV doesn’t have it. I don’t think he’ll last long

Boy can that Eaton ever fly. Gives us fits.

That’s a little better. 2 runs. Miggy just doesn’t have enough power, does he?

that’s probably an understatement.

He’ll make me a liar and hit a HR.

So you were right Evan. ..dont let it go to your head. …hhehhe

the offense is supposed to be ON right now — so it was a safe bet at this little ballpark

Some fan is screaming “boring.”

Yes, I rather have pitching duels. Jk, I have Yankees- Jays, that is boring

Just watched the highlights. It is the first time I remember seeing the rule applied allowing the runner to score.

The Tigers have scored 5-or-more runs in an inning 18 times this season, which is the most in the majors
Tigers PR

Please, put him on the DL.

He won’t. …but he could certainly be pulled tonight

I think the guy was chanting “Torii.” He was at the plate.

I guess I need a hearing aid. Torii, Torii, Torii.

KC/Cleveland rain delay

great minds comment alike

KC losing

Adam Dunn with the worst walkup music in the majors. “Turn the Page” is a great song; I must have performed it 1500 times over the years, but it’s terrible for walkup music.

Very glad to be wrong about JV. Let’s hope this is a good sign.
Miggy on the other hand—-I agree, put him on the bloody DL

JL had a theory that I noticed: it was all or nothing. Why pitch porcello in game 163? TO SET UP the first round rotation of course. So how that fits here: put cabby on the 15 day DL. We WILL NOT win the ALCS with a HOBBLING cabby. Put him on the 15 day and when he comes back I bet he hits a homer, and really tears it up in the post season.
.
sad to say, but with miggy batting in the order where he does….he’s hurting the offense right now. bite the bullet; put him on the 15 day.

with the bullpen doing well….and starters looking to rebound…….just do it. make it happen, rich!

Yes get him on the DL ASAP. It is obvious he has problems . Gotta think the team doctors have been involved in decision to let him play.

The question is, would a DL stint help Miggy? Would this thing heal in 15 days? If not, he just guts through it.

it’s a question of how much will it get him “out of the grove” compared to “back feeling 100%”. I can’t tell you the answer to that but someone can and they need to think about it long and hard.

1. The Hunter/Kinsler Peg to Rookie 1 to kill a White Sox inning.
2. Julio getting back in the groove for the final 30.
3. JV with another grinding quality start, topped off by goose eggs from the Pen.
Kudos to Eez, Kinsler, and old man Tori for getting it done. Rookie’s 1 and 2 continue to have good learning AB’s. we keep winning with nothing from Miggy, Could you imagine where we would be if he were anywhere near last year’s numbers? Biggest challenge tomorrow, Get two runs off The Lefty so Max can win. Cleveland is starting to breathe own its own.

Thank you JV and the offense for an enjoyable game. I was able to relax and watch it on Chicago TV.

KC loses. Tigers 1/2 game behind. Seattle losing to Washington. Keep telling yourself, “One day at a time.”

Brad said Miggy was moving around better tonight.

here we go!

DL? what for? roster expansion in two days

hmmm you have a good point. I just want him to stop playing long enough to heal up some. if he’s not on the DL, Miggy will wear Brad down and he’ll play before he’s healed up enough.

Just rest Miggy for a week. His average has slipped to .301 and he can’t run. Let the team prove and have the confidence they can win without him. Then when he comes back……..look out! If our pitching performs like they should, we won’t need many runs. Go Tigers!

Good points above. My feeling on the DL is it forces Miggy to take it easy enough to get some progress in the ankle and perhaps abdominal muscles too.
It forces the team to rally round him (they have shown signs of doing that) and playing without him (essentially they are anyway). It provides some roster flexibility.
It gets VMart into a more prominent role (1st base) which he will flourish in.
The most important thing is it gets Miggy off his ankle. It gets him away from a descending spiral of frustration. He is not going to fix himself with the current (non)treatment plan. It can only serve to hurt the team on the field and possibly off it as well.
It is not fair to player that Miggy is to play him under these conditions.
These are all personal opinions and I apologize for expressing them.

i dig it

1 2B Ian Kinsler – R
2 RF Torii Hunter – R
3 1B Miguel Cabrera – R
4 DH Victor Martinez – S
5 LF J.D. Martinez – R
6 3B Nick Castellanos – R
7 C Bryan Holaday – R
8 SS Eugenio Suarez – R
9 CF Rajai Davis – R

75 pitches in the fourth and still pitched 7 innings. 116 pitches
That why I take Verlander over Scherzer now, before and next season. He has the will .
He was mocked for avoiding the handshake of doom but I take that over “my tank was empty”

And yes, I think the overload caused his problems. But that on the manager and the pitching coach.

Miguel leads 1B in the AL for the GG. Without his ,and Kinsler ´s, defense, the pitching staff will suffer

The 5 players shift
