Wednesday’s lineups: Tigers vs. Yankees

Three weeks ago, Shane Greene faced a Tigers lineup without Miguel Cabrera or Torii Hunter starting and shut it down on five singles over eight innings with five strikeouts, saddling Rick Porcello with a 1-0 loss at Yankee Stadium. Porcello got his revenge Tuesday night. Now the Tigers will field their regular lineup against Greene at Comerica Park, hoping to earn David Price a win in his first outing since taking a loss on a one-hitter with an unearned run at Tampa Bay.

  2. Torii Hunter, RF

Go get em boys, the Royals are not backing away, so every game counts.

they will

washington might cool off the mariners too

Ray pitching tonight

After Farmer’s last start I hope that DD thinks the “Buck stops there”.

Thre are no more starters on the 40 roster. Below is on DL

Why are they pitching Jeter outside with a man on 2nd?

That’s better.
Boy Suarez really has trouble catching thrown baseballs.

WTH! Get these guys out.

Way too many pitches in the first inning

Rough start. 28 pitches in one inning. Let’s hope Price settles down or the bullpen comes into play way too soon.

And it goes on and on. Now Price has lost it?

It was safe anyway. Kinsler handed him the ball with the runner over the base

42 pitches through 2 innings for Price ….Greene 25 pitches. Not good. At this rate Price will pitch 5 innings and Greene 10.

Wrong side

Another leadoff hit for the Yanks. Yikes. David looks off tonight.

Yep they all do…..great defense last night bad tonight. Nice timely hitting last night..don’t even have a damn hit yet….pitching great last night well tonight not so much. 1 step forward and two steps back with this team. There is still a ton of time left in this but it’s just not feeling ppgood is it.

Take him out

Waited to long or wants to save the bullpen?

flying around in that helicopter has him discombulated. Price has never pitched so bad.

“discombobulated” as Jim Price would say. Everything is finding a hole.

Okay, Ausmus, it’s not funny anymore. Putting Robbie Ray on the mound wearing a David Price mask.

Next thing you know we’re gonna hear he is injured.

That’s what we said.

That is what my wife said….’ How long before he is hurt .”

Get him the hell out of there. Or doesn’t Ausmus feel like managing tonight either?

yank him, Brad.

Where are Ausmus and Jones? Go there to give more time to Hardy

Almost time to turn to something else…..what a joke!

Porcello is Steady Eddie everyone else …just don’t know what you are going to get?

Just one bad outing

For him maybe but Verlander Scherzer Price. ..and whatever guy they throw up there ya just don’t know what you are going to get. Price has 9 starts in which he gives up 4 runs or more this year. Max 6 times, verlander 10, Sanchez 6, Porcello 6.

Unless Hardy can pull a miracle, Tigers will be down at least 7 runs and have to come back against a pitcher they are making look like a future Cy Young winner.

Click.

48 minutes

Our defense hasn’t exactly been stellar.

What a mess. Might have to shut this one off.

So, is that Price’s WORST outing EVER? I’m so glad he waited until he was a Tiger to get that off his chest. 8 runs in 2 innings.
.
Where’s my TV Guide? Aha, Extant. Well, Halle Berry is better looking than David Price anyway.
.
You’re only as good as tomorrow’s pitcher. GULP> Another rookie? Could he really be the Tigers’ big hope? And what happens Saturday? Who is TBA and TBA?

Scherzer and ,maybe, Farmer

Turning off

Scherzer since the break, 4-1 2.36

That was the whole season as it was for all of them and he had one of those 4+ games the other day.

ESPN compared him with rest of the rotation. I had no time to take note of the rest.
One 4 runs game in 7 with 1 or two make 2.36

Ray gave up 7 earned runs in 3 2/3 innings at Toledo tonight.

Jon Heyman ‏@JonHeymanCBS 33m

approximate odds to record 9 straight hits against david price (considering .237 BAA coming in), as yanks did: 1 in 43,478

Glad to know that it won’t happen again for 43,477 more times. I can’t remember ever seeing that myself.

At least I have something in common with Derek Jeter. We both own two seats from Tiger Stadium.

Mark Simon ‏@msimonespn 10m

.@dougglanville on Torii Hunter – he should play deeper becuz metrics show he’s struggling to field balls hit to deepest part of park

Ugly! ….. So NOW the bullpen is almost flawless. For crying out loud! Wonder how Smyly would have done?

jasoncollette ‏@jasoncollette 41m

Since trade: Price has allowed 29 hits & 15 runs in 32.2 IP, Smyly has allowed 17 hits & 6 runs in 34 IP. Both have made 5 starts

Before today, 7 runs in 30.1
Smyly is pitching in a pitcher friendly park

I think today Smyly pitched in Baltimore. ..not pitcher friendly and I am pretty sure comerica is known as pitcher friendly park.
.

Tropicana Field compared with CoPa is more pitcher friendly. I wa snot talking about today but the five games

Great… another John Smoltz type trade by the Tiger brass!! They go to all that work to find the right young guys, bring ‘em along, get them into the bigs and then trade them for a temporary fix. I always thought that Smyly was going to be another good young guy for lots of year. That dream is dead. But, then again, every pitcher has a couple of crappy games every season.. I just wish that Price had had his with the Rays.

Smyly with the Tigers in 2014. 3.93 ERa and 4,08 FIP.. And mostrly, due to his releif stint
hHs walks and HR rates are down, the park and a better catcher calling and framing
Price is not a temporary fix but the replacement of Scherzer
This Price is the same that 5 days ago allowed one hit

Wonder what Brad will say in his post game remarks…..Help !!!

The bad thow by Cabrera, the line drive thru the shift between Cabrera and Castellanos and the at least 3 of the Infield hits that were outs with an average 3B defender compounded the problem.

1. Seven innings of 2 hit ball by the worst Tiger BP in a long time.
2. We scored in four innings; would that it could have been more than one run each time.
3. The Suarez defensive gem; I’m surprised his pants stayed on.

What a strange game, the one they call baseball. To think Price would be bowled over, and the rest of the guys would hold steady, would have surprised about everybody. The helicopter ride must have gotten him out of kilter. Again, first swings while being down by 8 runs hindered some offensive progress. Ian is really going through some down times; Rags looked like a little leaguer tonight. Miggy is indeed wounded, the Royals win, and I am about ready to wave the white flag. Teams have big rallys against us, and we very seldom have those types of outbursts. I’ve already written off Thursday; The Yankees pitch Shane Greene, whom we can’t touch, while we throw Red Meat.(Their ?Rookies as opposed to our Rookies) Would have been wise to stretch out the Fizzman for another run at starting; at least he has some MLB experience, and could give us maybe three of four versus 1.1. It’s gutcheck time, and I truly don’t know what might rise to the top.
Could be no worse than what we’ve see this year. KC is truly in the Catbird Seat.

“I let the team down, and that’s the worse thing.” Oh, oh. Admitting a mistake and not blaming it on someone/something else. We know what happens to those guys

I didn’t watch the whole game, but I do have one bone to pick. Castellanos needs to lift weights and work out that throwing arm. He hits with power, but I’ve never seen a weaker arm. Same with Suarez. What is up with all those lousy throws.

Miguel called Suarez attention twice ,after .those throws-Suarez has the arm but lloses focus to easily.

probably an unfair statement, but i think JL would have gotten more outta these guys this year than brad did. Today’s game is a must win, for me.

I agree that it’s an unfair statement.

that’s ok there were plenty of unfair statements against JL when he was the coach – brad will get used to it

I agree with that too.

i’m going to focus on the positive–and thats the bullpen.
2 hits, 0 runs, 2 walks & 5 Ks in 7 innings. pretty impressive guys!

Lineup vs. NYY: Davis 8, Kinsler 4, Cabrera 3, V. Martinez DH, J. Martinez 9, Castellanos 5, Kelly 7, Avila 2, Romine 6. Lobstein starting

No Holaday after a night game

Iott:
“Not saying the Tigers will promote Kyle Ryan anytime soon. But I should clarify his status.”
“Have been saying didn’t expect Tigers to promote Ryan because it would require 40 move. But he’s eligible for Rule 5 draft this offseason.”
Why not? he cant be worse than Farmer for next Saturday

Putkonen in rehab. One spot less for the postseason if he is able to comeback

And someone must be DFA to make an spot for him back in the 40 roster.
Two players soon to be DFA, one for him another for Mccann if he is called up.

To keep chewing yesterday´s breackfast..
Stark:
David Price had faced Yankees 25 times before last night. Only twice had he allowed 9 H in a game. So how’d he allow 9 in a row last night?

Didnt you watch it? Cantaloupes and softballs right down the middle and belt high all 3 innings. Terrible…he looked like he was throwing a bullpen session. But everyone has a few bad games. To top it all off, the bullpen was spectacular..7 inns., 2 hits, 2BB & 5K’s. Tigers have 31 games left. If KC plays .500 rest of way, Tigers have to win 19 to win Central. Looking more like they need to win the last wild card spot.
